His paws were outstretched as he sprung into the air, trying to grapple with her. He could feel the pain in his shoulder from being thrown.

"Am I really that old?" he muttered to himself.

"Nope!" Stealthpaw called, "Just messin' with ya!" she finished, jumping to meet her mentor in the air.

Of course, Rainydawn knew the move was coming so it would be easy to block, but she forced herself to stay still and allow Ripplepaw to try it out. The apprentice performed the move admirably and Rainydawn grinned as a paw swiped at her legs. While she hadn’t blocked Ripplepaw, the bengal mix still didn’t necessarily feel like falling and having to pick dust from her fur later so she grounded herself into the sand of the training island and flexed her legs to form a strong base. The paw hit her in a swiping motion and swayed her but Rainydawn stayed standing where another would crumple.

“Well done! That was perfect- if I hadn’t known that was coming I’d be in the dust right now.”

What was another move she could teach Ripplepaw? Maybe a defensive move?

“Do you want to try a defensive maneuver now?”

Ripplepaw beamed, giving a pump of her paw in triumph before she straightened up. At Rainydawn's question, the feline gave a vigorous nod. "Yes, YES!" She meowed, tail waving.
Ripplepaw was wondering if she should tell Rainydawn about the one move she performed on Softpaw during the little battle training tournament that Lionstar had held.... was it a good move? Maybe Rainydawn could help her refine it or something.... maybe she'd ask at the end.

Now, which defensive maneuver should she teach Ripplepaw? The younger she-cat seemed fairly skilled so Rainydawn wanted to try a more advanced move and she ended up settling for a standing defense.

“Ok, this move is for when someone is leaping at you head on, likely with the intention of landing on top of you. You have to be quick, but as they fall toward you, you stand up and slam your paws into their head. It’s hard to change direction when you are already in the air so it is a good way to protect yourself while still landing a blow.”

Rainydawn demonstrated by pushing up onto her back paws and slamming down her front paws forcefully.

“Would you like to see a demonstration or would you prefer to try it yourself?”

Sootflare had to hold back a laugh as Cricketchirp stumbled over himself in an effort to get away. It was the sort of display he expected from a newly-made apprentice, not a warrior-aged tom. It seemed they had more work to do than he thought, "Your opponent's goal is to trip you up, Cricketchirp, don't do it for them." he teased.

Instead of pulling away from Cricketchirp's next attack, he aimed to lean into it, body slamming into body. It was self-detrimental counter that would leave them both stunned if his opponent didn't abandon his attack. Sootflare hoped his experience with battle would allow him to recover faster than the unpracticed tom. However, it was all up to chance as to who got up first and aimed their blow.

Cricketchirp, not expecting the counter, ended up slamming into Sootflare full force and was knocked back a bit, head reeling as he tried to understand what the heck went wrong.
He stumbled to his paws and backed up a few steps, hoping the downed cat wouldn't attack his paws. He didn't need to be smacked into the ground a second time so soon.

(Didn’t get a starter so slapping one down. (: )
Almondpaw bounced. “Can I learn a battle move? Or are we starting with hunting?”

Salmonsong lead Dreampaw to the island,” Alright, so you just need some battle training huh? Alright attack me.” she instructed. She knew this was an older apprentice who more than likely picked up a move or two, from the apprentice raid and warrior raid, so she’d give advice while they sparred.

Dreampaw hunkered down, eyes narrowed and she rushed toward Salmonsong, going to the right, but at the last minute, feigning to the left and springing, trying to land on the warriors shoulders.

Berryscorch had trailed behind on the way over to the training island, allowing Stingpaw to freely take the lead a few tail-lengths ahead. She was still close enough to keep an eye on him, of course, but a little freedom couldn't hurt, could it?

When they eventually made it to the the training island, she took the lead and hopped onto the sandy grounds. This was rather exciting, though her expression remained calm as she turned to face her apprentice. She first needed to gauge his experience level. "Have you learned any moves at all? Maybe just a simple one, or something you've seen someone do, or even one you've made up yourself?" Stingpaw hadn't mentioned any formal battle training, but there was always a possibility he'd perhaps picked up a move or two from somewhere else. If he really hadn't learned a thing... well that meant they had a long way to go, but she'd put up with it.

[Sorry this will be short! Just got back from a break /: ]

Stingpaw turned wars giving a gentle little flick of amusement. “Well I did participate in that little.. battle training thing I guess. The raid on the warriors den! Hound.. hound whatever his face was just crushed me most of the time” He said with a snort plopping down onto the sand and sweeping his tail around his paws.

{No worries, hope you enjoyed your break c:}

“So nothing then? That’s alright, we’ll just start with the basics.” Standing back up, Berryscorch decided she’d go about this by demonstrating the move, then letting Stingpaw practice it a couple times.

“First up is the front paw blow. Take one of your front paws and raise it high up into the air, then slam it down onto your opponent’s head. You want to be quick here, it won’t do any good if your opponent has time to move out of the way before your paw comes down.” As she talked, she went through the motions of the move, slow enough that each step could be seen individually. “If you think you’ve got it, go ahead and try it on me.”
