Re: WindClan Patrols

A tall tri-colored she-cat with blue/green heterochromia.
a light Russian accent [purr after an R]
Purrk(s): Monkey's Paw (wish & withdrawal determined)
Not the most social cat
Maplepaw, for the first time in about... whatever was beyond three moons, felt... what was this feeling called? It was like her throat, which had always felt closed up, was finally opening again, and her tail was finally raising up high again. She had actually been taught something--and was able to execute it. Usually, if Maplepaw didn't understand the first time or was just unable to actually do it, whichever cat was with her would get frustrated, and it was not the kind of frustrated you would see with queens and their kits refusing to take their nap. Oh, no. It was more like... a leader and a cat refusing to leave after being exiled. Yeah, that kind of frustrated. But, Lightningstorm was... different. She wasn't frustrated when she learned that Maplepaw wasn't taught how to catch prey. She had instead took manners into her own paws, and taught the apprentice herself.

Maplepaw’s paws froze mid-motion as Lightningstorm bolted toward two other felines. She swiveled her head towards the three. What decided to interrupt their patrol?
Oh.
There was a cat was a back leg limp, the other... Maplepaw wasn't so sure. But, did this really need the medicine cat's assistance? The limp didn't really look that bad to her. Did they really need to make a big deal out of this? They needed to unfurl their whiskers. Though, the last time Maplepaw had gotten hurt was not too long ago, and it was the mink attack. She had seen a young apprentice get basically the same amount of injuries you would except the leader to get, yet they had (hopefully) lived through it. So... if this was a big deal to them, imagine being in the place of the cats on the Twilight Falls patrol.

She glanced up at Lightningstorm, their ear flicking. "Ne..." c'mon... "need... he.. help?"

Prey in maw, Lightningstorm's eyes had a small spark to them, her countenance livelier than it had been since Cowtuft's exile. The fresh air had done her some good, she supposed... as well as the company. It had been refreshing to be in the company of a cat who seemed to be every bit as disappointed in the clan as she was... and who didn't also want to feed her to badgers. Fun as Leechscar was, the possibility was always in the back of her mind as far as the leader's son went. Her mood was elated enough that she was even looking forward to doling out patrols next. She felt energized enough to maybe lead one herself. A small grin crossed her lips at the thoughts, covered by the prey. She might just bully Words to accompanying her on a second patrol for the day, even. The she-cat certainly seemed like she'd been wanting things to do.

Unfortunately for the lithe calico, her good mood wouldn't last. Even before she could spot the gray tom she sought, the metallic tinge of blood met her nostrils, not even the scent of fresh prey being enough to diminish it. Almond gaze growing round, the oriental mix gazed around frantically for the source, eyes soon landing on Batglare and his returning patrol. Blast! Of course this would happen. She leaves for a moment to hunt some prey for the clan and she somehow gets three new patients in the process. And she hadn't sent out for herbs, either. Her storage had gotten depleted with the mink attack, and she had gotten interrupted on her way to send out for more herbs for some hunting. A part of her wanted to blame Fallownose for this. Wonder if he had somehow plotted this to make her job that much harder. Her life that much more difficult to keep. The thought was soon shaken away, however, knowing full well the deputy had simply needed help getting the prey pile full, considering WindClan's warriors were so keen to dissatisfy they couldn't even maintain their bloody food stores filled.

Prey on the ground and forgotten, Lightningstorm rushed towards the trio, large ears flat on her skull as she assessed their injuries. The heavy scent of musk soon intermingling with that of blood, the medicine cat found herself taking in a deep breath, her eyes narrowing as realization settled in. The minks. The bloody minks. Again. They had already battered down her supplies once, and it seemed they were keen on it again. Darkness and stars... you'd think StarClan would have sent her a message on how to deal with these bloody fiends by now, wouldn't you? Perhaps she should head out on her own... Go to the StarCave and demand some answers before things got any worse.

"You three got the reek of bloody minks on you. Where were you lot sent? I need to send out for herbs to treat you, and I can't go sending more cats to get battered bloody like you you did," she mewed, wasting to time on pleasantries. The felines' injuries weren't deadly. They would live... hopefully. Thundersnow in particular was sporting some mighty horrid looking gashes in that leg of his, though, and it worried her.

Still, there was no time for polite and idle chitchat when she was on the job. She wasn't soft and mild mannered. That had always been Cowtuft's own, special brand of caring. And look where it had gotten him. She just needed to heal them. Save them. Do the best she could. They could keep on hating her once she was done bandaging their wounds. Once she got her responses, she would bound off and send for patrols. And StarClan save the bloody feather-brains that dared let her down this time around.

Thundersnow
Tom\Warrior\WC
"Water holds memories."

· · ─────── ·· ─────── ·

Thundersnow had to strain his ears to hear the she-cat, his maw wrinkling in the effort. "Twilightfalls." He said, balancing himself from a recent spasm.

Whatever happened to him or the rest of the patrol didn't matter. They'd all make it out okay, they fought off these minks, didn't they? All were very capable, enough to make it out alive.

He wondered what happened to get the falls so invaded, and why minks of any animal. He couldn't help but wonder if it was sign of some sort. He wasn't sure what. He'd probably have to think about it more, that always helped him.

It seemed Lightningstorm didn't have time for thinking though, she was constantly moving out and about. Thundersnow had a great deal of respect for the higher ranks, but he'd never wish to be one of them, ever. He liked to walk in dizzy circles and think his way into complicated questions. When you had a whole clan of cats to take care of, you can't really do that.

He could serve his clan and pay his respects to the stars above without any of that. Though, it was an honor regardless to be chosen by Starclan themselves to lead your clan. He was proud of them, each and every one of them.

Whatever was uttered next completely frizzled past him, through static and out into a still clear.

A hitched, sharp intake of breath followed the warrior's words, and Lightningstorm soon grimaced at the news. Great. So the minks had fully taken over the falls. That was just bloody well perfect, wasn't it? The single best source of moss in the clan... gone. Oh, she was getting a migraine now, she was. Closing her eyes for only a moment to allow herself to think, she felt her mate's presence besides her, the wavering strength of her voice making it clear that the blood was making her ill already. She snorted in response, uncertain of how to handle the situation. Truth be told, even if she had sent the herb patrols before she went hunting on her own, there was no guarantee that the cats involved would have brought the herbs with them. Not only that, but she would have sent apprentices out to gather moss at Twilight Falls. Apprentices that would have died. Perhaps this hunting request had been a blessing in disguise after all.

Lapis hues opened up as she heard a rather more unfamiliar voice talking besides her, settling on the apprentice's heterochromatic gaze. She had assumed Maplepaw was like Cowtuft, disliking speech. Well... perhaps not quite like Cowtuft. Her mentor had loved talking. Funny words had been his favorite pastime right after making silly little flower crowns. It was more so talking in front of crowds or cats he wasn't particularly familiar with that had proven trickier for the gentle giant. The medicine cat had no idea why exactly Words had been so sparse with her own, if either shyness, a dislike of speaking, or... something else, but one thing was clear. She was at the very least concerned or serious enough now to force a full - albeit short - question out. A seemingly small gesture, but one the spotted healer appreciated immensely.

"If you are alright..." Lightningstorm began, a dubious look crossing her features as she turned to Firestorm. "And I mean absolutely, positively, without a question alright, then could you please take Batglare, Thundersnow, and Whisperingpaw to one of the larger patient dens? Keep all three of them together in individual nests... Maplepaw," she continued, turning instead to the apprentice. She might not talk much, but it was clear she at least had a clear head on her shoulders... Kitten might be needing that. "I need you to go get some moss from the unused, clean nests around the camp. Bring it to Firestorm to best stop their bleeding. I'll need to send patrols from supplies. Don't wrap their injuries. I don't want them festering with infection. Just... clean them up and make sure they aren't bleeding out. The stream that runs through the den works well to clean up the moss if need be."

Her last set of instructions had been meant for them both. Firestorm wasn't the type to handle the harsher parts of a medicine cat's job well, nausea quick to come along at the slightest hint of infection or injury. With her stomach doing so many twists and turns after her pregnancy had shown itself to make her violently ill at the best times of day, she didn't want the pretty tabby to be left alone and uncomfortable in the den. Still... the lithe calico wasn't so proud as to scoff away and become irate at these two offering help, especially when it wasn't her health on the line. Much as she might loathe WindClanners as a whole, she would not jeopardize their lives so pettily.

Instead, she awaited both she-cat's responses before she nodded, nuzzling her mate and licking her cheek tenderly before turning around in a hurry. She had herbs to gather, and a lazy, no good clan to trust in getting said flowers. Before that, she circled around back towards the deputy, signaling towards the two hares, rabbit, and mouse her patrol had left in the clearing at the sight of the injured cats. She could always put those away later, but she wasn't about to have Words get into trouble over the prey not being in its place. She was certain the deputy would understand if they stayed there for a little while longer... right?

"There's what we got back from Windy Hills, Fallownose. I need to take care of my patients and get supplies... fast... But I've got news that aren't about to make you crack a smile any time soon, love. Twilight Falls isn't the only place with minks on it. We spotted none, but you can ask Maplepaw if you'd like... There was plenty stench from those bloody things permeating the entire area. If they follow the same pattern as with the falls, won't be long till the damn hills are lost to them as well..." Lightningstorm reported, her tail lashing behind her, awaiting the tom's response impatiently before she bounded off, ready to send out patrols of her own.

Whisperingpaw had been walking over with the rest of his patrol, Batglare and Thundersnow, his body slightly sore from the fight. He thought his wounds would hurt much more, but they didn't. Whisperingpaw must have spaced out because Lightningstorm was telling Firestorm to take them away. The marigold furred apprentice padded over to Firestorm, his paws aching.

Batglare glanced in Lightningstorm's direction as the medicine cat began meowing something or other. He was a little dizzy and a bit too tired to follow everything that was said. As they were directed towards the Firestorm, Batglare silently followed behind Whisperingpaw.

As the others began to move, the medicine cat found her usual position at the base of the Galewood, trying to spot any cat that seemed available enough to go gather some herbs. She would be having no tolerance today for failure. She had injured felines awaiting these herbs. If these cats couldn't deliver when their clanmates' safety was at stake, a demotion would be the least of their worries. She would make certain to give them the same luxury and care that they had all afforded her mentor when he had not noticed the rat that had taken to poisoning their precious herbs. If a cat could be removed from the only home he had ever known for failing to notice another's sabotage, she was fairly certain the same could be applied to whatever cat deemed themselves and their time far too precious to help out in the midst of an emergency. She still understood why Twilightstar had exiled the tom, but it didn't make her any less bitter when it came to how gleeful - how uncaring - some of the WindClan vermin had been when the cat who had dedicated his life to them had been sent away. For how little care had been taken to find the real culprit after he had paid for the crime of innocence thanks to one of the rats that infested his place.

| Marigold and Daisy Leaves |
[ Thunderglade ]

| Bravebird [ @talle ] | Fallowfeather [ @Starii ] | Dustypaw [ @starry ] |

The first cat she took note of made her wince, preferring to send just about anyone else... only to notice deer like ears soon after. Two currently injured cats... cats that had suffered at the claws and fangs of the first wave of mink attacks... and yet Lightningstorm knew that she probably wouldn't be able to count on better cats to understand the gravity of the situation. She needed that marigold... now. She would also need some cobwebs, of course. The paltry two strands left besides the two catmint leaves would not be enough here, but ensuring no infection set into those wounds was of much more import. With a grimace, she decided to swallow her pride and call out, knowing all too well that no matter what her standing with the warrior was now, she had once considered the lynx point a dependable cat. She might no longer believe her a friend or even an acquaintance, but she was certain the she-cat would make sure to bring in herbs if her clanmates' well being was on the line.

"Bravebird," the spotted molly yowled, her eyes narrowing as she motioned towards herself with her tail. "I know you and Fallowfeather are still injured, but I trust the two of you understand how swiftly this needs to be solved. That's why I want you both to take Dustypaw with you towards Thunderglade. Find marigold and daisy leaves. Marigold's easy enough, innit? Flower with bright, yellow... orange-y petals. Sweet smelling. Hard to miss. The daisy are simple looking white blooms. It's not the flowers you are after, though. It's the leaves. Dark green with a hairy stem. They are bitter, so try not to stuff your face too full of them."

Staring at the patrol lead, she quirked a brow, knowing full well that Bravebird would understand the jab. Truth be told, she wanted the warrior bothered enough that she felt she had something to prove. She needed these herbs back. Sending these warriors towards the ThunderClan border was not her most confident idea ever, but with two wounded and an apprentice, she needed them away from any spots potentially infested with minks. Considering that the tyrant from the woods had just given back control of the border to WindClan, she hoped there would at the very least be no trouble from the bloodthirsty clan for now. Assuming Bravebird didn't confuse any ThunderClan rumps for porcupine ones, that was...

| Cobwebs and Broom |
[ Sunset Grove ]

| Scalescar [ @SpiritWolf_yt ] | Crowtooth [ @Rani ] | Swiftfire [ @Tiabirb ] |

Next the wiry framed she-cat spotted one of her most loathed former - as far as she was concerned - clanmates. The heavily scarred, dismissive tom, Scalescar. He had... tried to make amends some moons ago. Tried to befriend her. That had gone nowhere, however, and once the whole clan showed their true colors, Lightningstorm found herself less eager to make nice with the anyone, much less those she had already had less than amicable feelings for in the first place. An emergency such as this, however, was not the time to play favorites... although maybe she would send Crowtooth along if he was up for it. Another of the mink injured felines, but what else could she do at this point? There was a reason there had been a particular group of cats in that first patrol. They were the more dependable felines around. And speaking of which... she could spot another of the formerly injured cats in the clearing. Well... thank goodness they'd had some time to rest, she supposed...

"Scalescar, Crowtooth, Swiftfire... to me," she motioned, calling out the warrior trio. "I need you three to find me some cobwebs and yellow bells - broom - for the injured cats that just came in. I want you lot to go to Sunset Grove and see what you can find. The more the better. Cobwebs never go bad now, do they? I have heard of no mink scent over at the grove... but be careful. Any musk in the breeze and I want you three out of there faster than a cat with a face full of porcupine quills being chased by a badger. Cobwebs are easy enough for you three I would presume, but yellow bells are small shrubs with even smaller yellow flowers. Good for poultices, and I'm afraid they might not be so readily available once the snow leaves completely. Would appreciate any amount found."

| Mushrooms and Moss |
[ Sedgewater Valley ]

| Fieldspark [ @mars ] | Dustbunny [ @Moonraven ] | Caterpillarpaw [ @Katiethewolfchild ] |

The next patrols sent would need a little bit more finesse. Things with RiverClan had been tense of late, but with the minks running around WindClan's best herb gathering locations, she couldn't very well send cats to gather moss and mushrooms to her preferred location. The mushrooms and moss would be well helpful, too, so it wasn't like she could ignore them either. Especially if mink attacks were going to be coming on a regular now. With a sigh, she spotted a few extra cats and called out to them. She was admittedly not very familiar with Fieldspark or Caterpillarpaw, but Dustbunny she knew was a trusted clan member as far as Twilightstar was concerned. She doubted the leader would consistently give tasks about to cats who couldn't be bothered, after all.

"Fieldspark," she called out to the brown and white tom before turning to the two she-cat's. "I need you to go out with Dustbunny and Caterpillarpaw towards Sedgewater Valley. I understand there might be some snow drifts left here and there, but I trust the valley to be cleared at this point. Should be good to find moss and mushrooms. I trust you know moss, but the mushrooms are a little trickier. Small, brown, soft pebbles with stems is what they look like. Bring them whole if you can find them. They'll help a fair bit with the minks about."

| Sticks and Borage |
[ WindClan Territory ]

| Cloudburst [ @Kacey! ] | Foxlight [ @*_Athena_* ] | Willowleaf [ @Sand_stripe ] |

Right... with most of the essentials out of the way, Lightningstorm was ready to prep some equally important but hopefully less necessary supplies. Namely sticks and borage. No broken limb would heal well if she didn't have a vast supply of sticks to help set bones, and the borage would help if anyone got infected despite the treatments to reduce fevers. Once more, her eyes soon lay on some felines she was much less familiar with, but she had found that this seemed to be the case more and more often of late. Ever since she had taken to keeping to herself for the most part. She didn't regret her choice. There was no reason to try and play nice with the WindClan rats. They would have her blood at the first try. But it did make it a bit harder to know if she should prepare herself for yet another disappointment or if these felines would be bringing herbs back. Well... if they didn't, she supposed that would be one more reason to forget them... once they joined her mentor in exile, that was.

"Cloudburst, Foxlight, Willowleaf. I want you lot to head out to the territory and find me a good collection of sticks and some borage. Keep your wits about you, and keep to the open spaces. Same as the rest... if you find any mink stench, I want you back here. The minks don't seem to have spread out throughout the territory as a whole just yet, so you should be safe now, shouldn't you? Now, borage... They are small, star shaped purple blooms with dark, hairy green leaves. I want you to bring some around, and bring them whole if you can! The plant and its leaves are well useful, yeah?" she explained, making sure they had understood their orders before heading off to assign the last patrol of the day.

| Goldenrod and Honey |
[ Sky Glade ]

| Hollowfoot [ @RoboPrism ] | Fallownose [ @Lillith ] | Winterpaw [ @zozelen ] |

Now for the last patrol. She couldn't really afford to send out any more after this. Lightningstorm was getting tired as it was, and she had three patients she needed to get to as quickly as possible. In the distance she spotted a familiar gray tom, and she couldn't help but narrow her lapis hues once more as she met his green. As much as the medicine cat distrusted WindClan, there was just something about Hollowfoot that made her distrust him all that much more. She got a bad feeling about him, she just wasn't sure why. Of course, she didn't bloody well trust anybody, so maybe it was just her paranoia flaring up especially around him? Like it or not, however, the tom was a clan cat, and as long as he was around, she would be sending him out to work. Maybe though... maybe she could send Fallownose along. Just to keep an eye on him.

"Hollowfoot. Winterpaw. Over here," the healer cried out, feeling her voice starting to give out from all the talking she'd already done. Stars... had she really been keeping to herself so much that this much socializing was already doing a number on her throat? "I want you both to accompany Fallownose," she mewed, offering a sideways glance at the deputy as she spoke, a clear oh right, should have mentioned you are going look in her eyes before she continued, "Go to Sky Glade. There's a singular tree there, and usually you can find some bees on it. I would like some honey. None of the previous patrols could gather any during leaf-bare, hopefully you lot will have a better go at it. I also want some sunfuzzies - goldenrod - if you can find them. Good for helping wounds stay clean and heal up faster. You can't miss them if you see them. Tall, golden flowers that grow in clumps together. Look like golden sticks from a distance."

Remaining around for some time as she helped settle any doubts among the patrols, Lightningstorm chanced a glance towards the medicine cat's den, watching her patients go inside. Stars alive, what a mess... If she were to be honest, she would have preferred to lead one of these patrols herself. Make sure the necessary herbs made their way to the clan. For now, she would have to trust in the clan. Hope that they would make it back and she would have herbs to treat the wounded. Both those which lay in her den now as well as those who will in the future. With a lash of her tail, she turned towards the sky, wondering if there was any chance at receiving some level of aide from the stars in all this. Frowning, she shook her head, assuming that would probably not be the case. Not for this, anways...

Power Card: Cold Gust

Oh boy, comeon Lightningstorm Crowtooth was fond of you but that'd fade if you kept putting him on patrols like this. By which the tom meant that while he did not at all mind herb patrols the company was murder.

Well.... Scalescar wasnt so bad, the tom hadnt had enough of an interaction to know him well but the odd tension Lightningstorm had calling him over was enough to worry him. But Swiftfire? There'd just been a very public argument not long ago and Crowtooth had blatantly snubbed her in it. While his temper had, predictably, cooled and now the tunneler had settled into a cool apathy he had no clue of her reaction at all. So this could go badly.

Welp whatever would happen Crowtooth was do his best to make sure the medicine cat got her herbs and he settled in to wait with a "Colorful analogy that. Porcupine quills an' bein' chased by a badger... Well broom an' cobwebs will be comin' ya can bet on that. Even 'f we have ta get them while runnin' fer our lives."

Dustbunny’s ears jerked up as soon as she heard her name. Another patrol! Not that she minded, but usually cats seemed to forget her existence. Not that she faulted them. She wasn’t all that memorable. She was rarely called for patrols. Delighted to be of service, the she-cat padded over to Caterpillarpaw as soon as she noticed the apprentice. So moss and mushrooms, should be easy enough to find. Dustbunny took a seat waiting for their last member, Fieldspark.

Fieldspark stretched, hearing Lightningstorm call their name. His pelt ruffled as he heard that they had to get herbs from the RiverClan border. He objected in his mind, because the RiverClan border was dangerous, and with minks...

"Dustbunny and Caterpillarpaw!" they called, padding up to the cats. His brown and white tabby coat was fluffed up against the cold. They swished their tail, and he shuffled to keep warm.
