Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Charmer @Aura @Okapi Settling down at the entrance to the Skyclan camp, Grousestar patiently awaited for the arrival of the two warriors he and Shinefang had both approved of for this little excursion into possibly hostile territory. His head tilted upwards slightly, to look through the now bare limbs of the trees above, taking note of the heavy cloud cover that blocked most of the sunshine. The tom hated it when the clouds were like this and quickly curled his lips in distaste before returning his gaze back to the clan. His tail was curled tightly over his paws and he almost appeared to be hunkered down. The air had a sharp nip to it and his short fur didn't exactly protect him from it's bite. He wholeheartedly wished it would be greenleaf again, when prey was plentiful, the canopy was thick and the birds still sang. Now, as it neared the harshest season, the entirety of the territory seemed quiet and almost barren. Of course there were still the occasional prey, and the occasional bird singing, but not as much as the leader liked. Taking his thoughts momentarily away from the thought of the coming leafbare, he began to instead think about their objective today. What he had told the warriors was simply enough, they were simply escorting Shinefang into the Former DS territory in order to search for herbs that might not be found in Skyclan territory, so that they could be fully stocked by the time leafbare really did hit. Of course, that was not his only intention in heading into the now unoccupied territory. He had bigger plans. But he hadn't even told Auroraflame about it, not yet. He hasn't told anyone. Today, when he was with this patrol, he would get a good look for himself, to see what it had to offer. If it seemed like a good piece of land, that held a good amount of prey, and could be a good asset for Skyclan. Then well. He would begin his approach on it. Skyclan could use the extra territory that's for sure. And he was hoping that he could snag it without too many caring, in regards to the other clans. After all, he didn't see the big deal, Skyclan was the closest to the territory anyways, the other clans would have to travel quite a bit just to try and get some prey in it. He didn't see them wanting to do that. Perhaps they haven't even thought of taking the territory. So he knew he must act fast. He would get a good look today before making a decision. |

Kestrelshade was dosing in the warrior’s den when she awoke at the crack of dawn. I need to meet Grousestar, Smogcloud, and Shinefang to enter the Dusk Syndicate territory. She stepped out of the den stretching and gave her fur a quick lick before grabbing a small vole and eatting up quickly and approaching Grousestar, Shinefang, and Smogcloud,” Sorry I’m late!” She meowed quickly guilt filled her chest. She wondered if Grousestar was disappointed in her or if Shinefang would think she was ill. Would Smogcloud disapprove of her? I just returned to warrrior duties yesterday, I’m not the best at waking up by sunlight. I got use to kit squeals waking me up. she shook her head I need to be ready to protect Shinefang. Enough of this guilt. |
Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Charmer @Aura @Okapi Shinefang was the first to join him, as he expected. Smiling brightly at the older tom, he would dip his head in greetings, taking note of the gruff hint to the tom's voice. "Good morning Shinefang. And yes, I do believe it is a fairly good day for a mission. Though I have to say, I wish there was more sunlight and less clouds." Sighing lightheartedly, he'd give another glance up at the clouded sky before looking back at the medicine cat. "They should be here soon, I have faith in them." And as if to prove Grousestar right, Smogcloud was hurrying up to join them, seeming a bit rushed in their actions, but awake nonetheless. They must have thought they overslept, thought the leader to himself with a quiet chuckle before in turn dipping his head in greetings to the warrior. "Smogcloud, glad to see you were able to make it. Now all we seem to be waiting on is Kestrelshade." Straightening himself up, he'd look in the direction of the warriors den patiently, waiting to see the she-cat make her exit so that they could get their patrol moving. Perhaps a few minutes later, the she-cat did step out, stretching and giving herself a quick lick before snagging a bite to eat and joining them as well. When Kestrelshade did join them, Grousestar stood with a bright smile to all of them. "Wonderful! That should be everyone, lets get a move on, we have a lot of ground to cover." And with that, the brown tabby set off at a brisk pace out of the clan, and into the territory he knew all too well, just like the back of his paw. Ever since they moved into this territory he spent nearly every day walking it's premises. There were few areas that the leader was not aware of. But if they did add on the former Syndicate territory, he would have plenty to explore and memorize. |
Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Aura @Okapi @Duskflight
The two warriors arrived not long after, and Shinefang dipped his head to each of them in turn as they arrive. "Smogcloud. Kestralshade." He was pleased with the selection of warriors for the patrol Both the tom and the shecat were young, spry, and fierce. He had little doubt they'd do well on this mission. The old tom stifled a grunt as he got to his feet. "Off we go then," he called, following after the brown tabby tom. He kept a couple of tail lengths back form Grousestar, not quite able to match the younger cats pace. Shinefang's spirits were up though, it was good to be out on patrol again. His senses were alert and in spite of the cold, he could still catch a faint whiff of a prey's trail along the leave-strewn earth. He could hear the wind whistling over the treetops, and notices the the branches overhead were swaying. Just a little. It may not have been ideal weather, but it a way, he preferred it. He felt alive, and the faintest taste of possible danger made the journey that much sweeter. Snapping out of his revelry and focusing on the task at hand, he called out to Grousestar. "Let's stop and have a look at that catmint plan I mentioned at the border. I'm curious to see if it has anything worth harvesting. It's right but the fallen oak near the scent line." |

Kestrelshade saw that Smogcloud was rather skinny. But she didn’t say anything. She watched Shinefang showing interest in catnip, it smelled so good. But she didn’t want to touch it, as she might loose her self control and eat it. She licked her lips sniffing for any signs of outsiders I don’t feel safe out here... |
Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Charmer @Aura @Okapi Grousestar was aware that Shinefang wasn't as spry as he used to be and might not be able to keep up with an overly fast pace and so made a conscious effort to slow himself down so that the medicine cat wasn't struggling to keep up. After all, this patrol was centered around protecting and escorting Shinefang, not just following Grousestar into dangerous territory for the fun of it! Though quietly the leader did think this was a little fun, he couldn't help it, the danger sort of excited him, made him feel like a young warrior again. Not that there were ever really any major dangers in the old territory. His ears swiveled back in Shinefang's direction as he heard what the older tom wished to do, the brown tabby nodding his head and turning it to look at Shinefang over his shoulder. "Will do. That should be coming up here soon.. The last part was more or less mumbled to himself as he made a mental note, his eyes absentmindedly looking about for the fallen oak that was mentioned, and he one he passed nearly every day on his morning walk. Though he quickly snapped back to reality as he realized there was a cat beside him, Smogcloud. Turning his head, he'd offer them a smile, they seemed about to say something to him. And they did, though it was more of a question more than anything. Looking back ahead, he seemed thoughtful for a moment before actually answering the question. "I have high hopes that we will find much needed herbs for leafbare. Hopefully some that our own territory doesn't bare." He decided he would leave out the mention of prey and extra territory until he fully decided on whether or not he wanted to further explore it by sending out hunting patrols. |
Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Aura @Okapi @Duskflight
Shinefang noticed that the pace as they came to the edge of the territory had stayed close to the same, and realized Grousestar must be keeping the pace easy for his sake. He was grateful for the kindness, and even more grateful that the tom hadn't said anything about it. The old medicine cat still had his pride to consider after all. Smogcloud moved ahead to chat with the leader, but he paid the pair no mind. And in the mean time, Kestralshade seemed to be drooling over something. Sure enough, there was the fallen oak near the scent line, and there was the cat mint plant. It looked every bit as puny and sad as he remembered. The plant was a pretty young one with only a couple a scraggly branches with no more than a few good leaves on each. He grunted as he pawed at one of the branches, his tail twitching thoughtfully. "I can maybe take a couple of these, but I'll have to leave enough to give the plant a better chance to grow more come newleaf." Shinefang knelt forward and carefully bit off four of the precious leaves. It was enough to conservatively treat one warrior for about a day, and greencough sometimes took several days to treat. He'd need more than this, and now that he remembered how good the leaves tasted and smelled, he was suddenly afraid the cats of the Dusk Syndicate would have lacked the self control to not gobble up every leaf. |

Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Charmer @Aura @Okapi If any member of the patrol had trouble keeping up with his pace, he'd be more than happy and more than willing to slow down for their sake. He knew he could get ahead of himself sometimes and generally seemed to hold too much energy for his own good, it took a lot of effort to walk at a decent pace and enjoy life rather than run around like some rambunctious kit all of the time. The fallen oak came into sight, but Shinefang was already angling towards it, Grousestar fully slowing down to let the medicine cat go ahead of him. It took his nose a moment to find the sweet smell of the herb, but he didn't eventually narrow it down. Was that really what cat mint smelled like? His tail flicked slowly as he took in the state of the plant, half wondering if that's always what they looked like before he remembered Shinefang telling him that the one at the border had been particularly puny looking when he first found it. Nodding his head as he heard what the older tom said, he cleared his throat a bit. "Well hopefully that's not the only one we come across in this little excursion." His head turned slightly, to look into the now abandoned territory they were about to head into. His thoughts were disrupted at the sound of Kestrelshade's question, his gaze now turning to focus on the she-cat. It seemed she was already thinking what he was. "The idea isn't out of my mind. But before we make any moves, I want to get a look at it myself. It could possibly be dangerous and I'd rather myself hurt as opposed to sending a hunting patrol out first and having any one of them hurt." His words were measured and true. But his thoughts were now focusing more on what they were here to do. Turning his head to the medicine cat again, he would smile and say, "Lead the way, my friend." |
Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Aura @Okapi @Duskflight
Shinefang picked up the leaves in his mouth, trying to keep his jaws as slack as possible to avoid damaging the tender leaves. With Grousestar's blessing, he nodded. "Onward we go!" he yowled through gently-gritted teeth. He padded around the fallen oak, the stone that held it in place, and on through a patch of tall grass, sure it was getting to cold for him to pick up any ticks. From there the ground began to slope very gently. The medicine cat sniffed the air as he went, but the catmint in his moth made it difficult to smell much of anything and he stopped shortly. "The catmint in my mouth is covering the scent of other herbs," he explained, putting the leaves on the ground, gently. "I'd appreciate it if one of you could carry it. The catch is you can't eat it, no matter how delicious it smells," he meowed, his one eye darting between Smogcloud and Kestrelshade in the hopes that one of them would volunteer. |

Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Charmer @Aura @Okapi @Deranged Llama @Roledolf Grousestar made sure to be the one closest to the medicine cat, just in case anything happened and he needed to jump in immediately; it wasn't that he didn't trust the two warriors he had assigned to this patrol, it was more so he wanted to put himself in harms way before they could get hurt. Besides, he was a capable tom, he's only lost one of his lives so far and the clan has had plenty of hardships and battles they've gone through. And so he followed the older tom as they padded around the fallen oak and began to pad up the gentle slope, his ears angled and slowly swiveling like radars, ready to pick up any little sound that needed to be paid attention to, his head slightly raised and jaws slightly parted, pulling in scents as often as he could, sifting through them quickly and effectively. However his concentration was broken as Shinefang stopped and explained that he'd rather have another cat hold the catmint, as it was preventing him from smelling anything else of importance. He would have volunteered but he needed his nose to pay attention to scents. Luckily enough he was spared the guilt as Smogcloud quickly volunteered to carry the sweet smelling plant. Dipping his head with a smile, he commended the young warrior for their help, happy that they were taking the responsibility of carrying the herb. He believed they had enough self-restraint to not chow down on the plant. "Now if we do happen upon prey, feel free to grab it but just don't stray too far, stay within sight because this is not a hunting patrol. We are a group and we move as a group. Where Shinefang goes, we go." He gently reminded the group as they prepared to further travel into the territory as soon as the medicine cat gave the 'okay'. |
Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Duskflight @Aura @Okapi @Deranged Llama @Roledolf
Shinefang nodded his thanks the young warrior. Something about the severity in Smogcloud's eyes told him the leaves were safe with them and that they took the duty of handling those precious leaves seriously. He appreciated that about the young warrior. Too many of the younger ones were too kit witted to know we to take anything seriously. There was no nonsense about this cat. Him scent glands clear now, he nodded to Grousestar and tilted up his head, giving the air a long and deep taste as he searched for herbs. Even still, he could detect no herb scent from where they were. A huff of frustration began to build in his throat until the old tom happened to glance to his side, and through a copse of what looked like elm trees. Between the trunks of the trees, he swore he had glanced a length of green waving in the wind that looked so familiar. With an audible, "Eh?" the medicine cat began to pad toward where he had seen it. He weaved among the trunks of the denser woods where the sunlight seemed fainter, and emerge in a small clearing. And in the center of the clearing, was unmistakably a willow tree. Shinefang stood for a moment in surprise as he looked it over, shaking his head slightly as he gave a small mrrow of laughter. Only last night, Thunderhowl, a deceased Shadowclan medicine cat, had visited him in his dream and told him to use the bark from this very tree to sooth his joints. They were aching more every day as the cold grew worse. "We've just found something to help with pain and swelling," he said out loud to the members of the patrol. "Kestralshade, help me out here, won't you?" he said, padding on toward the tree. His joints felt more relaxed just looking at it. The old medicine cat approached the base of the tree and stood on his hind paws, bracing his forepaws against the trunk. He unsheathed his claws and wedged them under a large chunk of loose bark and pulled it free. It fell to the earth with a gentle thud, and he turned to Kestralshade as he pointed at the piece he had just harvested. "Three or four more of those should hold us over nicely," he said, busily searching for another piece of bark to pull off. |

Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
Mango trudged along the old territory, pain searing into every step. Her mind roared with anxious thoughts and guilt. After the Gathering, she hadn’t had the heart to leave the territory yet, and apparently neither did her new aquaintance. She had wandered with the other Syndicate cat for a while, cleaning his wounds and her own getting cleaned. They were only partners for a while, however. Mango was planning to leave when her wound healed up, but she had not yet told her friend. Mango was walking in silence, side by side with Petrichor. Mango didn’t know him well, so she did not trust him much. She was a bit smaller than her much older companion, and she was not trained very well in fighting. Mango tried her best to stay on his good side, keeping her temper down and forcing a smile when she got mad. Mango winced from her thoughts as another wave of pain shot through her shoulder. She was about to speak up to ask to stop for a while, but a scent caught her nose. A scent she had smelled only once before. She had smelled this unusual scent at the Gathering. This scent was supposed to belong to her arch nemesis. SkyClan, she thought desparingly. These cats were most likely to be hostile at the sight of her and Petrichor, but they were in no condition to fight. Mango lashed her tail and swung her head towards Petrichor. “Get down! SkyClan cats are here,” she hissed. Mango crouched, trying to hide her ginger and white fur as much as possible. However, this was futile. The scent of blood and the obvious colors were enough to make her stand out like a sore thumb. ( @Deranged Llama @Duskflight @Charmer @Aura @Okapi ) |
Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Deranged Llama @Duskflight @Charmer @Aura @Okapi @Roledolf || Pedrichor stepped softly between trees, over one of the familiar paths in the past Dusk Syndicate territory. A Though his ragged group of rogues, which had split up previously, could be judgmental and cruel at times, the silver tabby missed them more than he would let on. He flicked his black tipped tail and let out a small sigh. His wounds inflicted from the battle at the Clan Cats' gathering weren't as bad as most, but still stung his body like thorns if he moved too quickly. It was a good thing, in his mind, that his companion, Mango, wasn't well enough to sprint through their old home. The young tabby's fur spike did along his spine at Mango's warning. Quickly looking around, he spotted a tall oak with some suitable holds. Leaping onto the first branch, the tom cat beckoned with his tail to her. Whenever possible, Pedrichor preferred to fight. But he knew that his companion was in no condition to do that. Plus, it seemed they were outnumbered. Maybe they wouldn't spot him. That was a possibility, but since Mango was on plain sight, he knew he wouldn't gen able to leave without her. They may not be close or overly friendly, but he did have loyalties to his formerly Syndicate cat. |
Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Charmer @Aura @Okapi @Roledolf @Deranged Llama Nodding back at the medicine cat, he waited for the tom to make a move, his tail flicking back and forth patiently as he scanned the surrounding area, also trying to pick up on any sounds that were out of the ordinary. For now, everything seemed fine. The territory really did seem abandoned, the only cat scents here were stale which put him slightly at ease but not completely. There was still plenty of ground they had to travel and that ground could hold any number of dangers so best not to let your guard down. Ears snapping to Shinefang as he heard that little 'eh?' escape his jaws, he looked over in time to see the medicine cat beginning to move towards a copse of trees off to the patrol's left. He must have seen some kind of useful herb. Thought the leader with a smile, almost as happy as the medicine cat might be, even though he really had no clue what might of herb it might be. Following quickly at the toms side, his eyes quickly focused on his warriors as both Smogcloud and Kestrelshade paused to hunt down a piece of prey. Seeing them both catch prey in such a short amount of time filled him with pride, happiness and even a little bit of hope. It was getting later in the seasons now, leafbare breathing down their neck with it's icy breath and yet, with as little time as they've spent in the territory, they've already caught two pieces of prey. A good sign. "Good job." He murmured to Smogcloud, burying the rabbit that they had placed at his paws, making good note of the location they were at so that they could come back for it later. It would definitely make a good meal for someone in the clan, perhaps even a few apprentices. His head turned as he heard Shinefang ask for Kestrelshade's assistance with retrieving some bark off of a tree, but immediately Grousestar's head snapped away as he heard the sound of something approaching, his ears perked and alert and his claws immediately unsheathing, a hardened and serious look setting like stone upon his features. He couldn't tell if it where one or two cats, but he definitely knew someone was approaching. "Get down Shinefang." He hissed quietly over his shoulder before turning his head back in the direction he had heard the pawsteps to immediately call out with a voice few have heard from Grousestar. It was a commanding, hard voice that held every ounce of authority that he had. "Halt! We know you are there and I ask that you reveal yourselves immediately before we have to take further action." His eyes squinted just slightly, focusing in on what appeared to be something white and ginger, focusing in on it as it moved and apparently tried to hide, his tail slowly flicking back and forth, expecting the two warriors of his patrol to flank him on either side. Whether these were loners or former Syndicate cats, Grousestar wasn't sure at the moment, but he knew that this could get ugly fast if they weren't careful. |
Re: Into Abandoned Territory [Closed]
@Aura @Okapi @Roledolf @Deranged Llama @Duskflight
Shinefang had just dug his claws into a new piece of bark when Grousestar growled a command for him to get down. He turned to look at the leader just as the scent of strange cats filled his nose, and her obeyed his leader's command like the well trained warrior he had once been, in many ways, still was. Because as he kept low to the ground, his claws were out, his lips were curled in a snarl, and his tail was twice its normal size. He couldn't tell just from the scent how many there were, and he hadn't seen them yet, but even if they were grossly outnumbered, if he went to Starclan he'd take an eye or two from the sorry kitwits first. Following Grousestar's gaze, he could just make out a figure. Maybe two? And was one of them moving with some trouble? Yes he could see one of them clearly now with their orange pelt. And there was more on the air than just their cat scent. Was that... blood? |

Mango was just about to leap up to where her companion hid, but a sharp, commanding voice made her stop in her tracks. Her eyes squeezed shut in frustration and fear, but she opened them and stood worked her claws on the ground. Standing up, her small stature was revealed. Perhaps these cats would take mercy on her. After all, she did have a deep wound on her shoulder. However, Mango realized she should stay true to her nature. Or so she thought. Mango fluffed out her long fur, trying to appear larger, and bared her teeth. “Okay, okay, you’ve caught me. But why are you on Dusk Syndicate territory? You can’t be here,” she hissed. Mango knew she wasn’t looking too threatening, mostly due to her age, but she was trying her best to scare them. Mango began to take note of their features. All of them seemed to have powerful haunches, possibly used for climbing and jumping. One standing in the middle of two cats was large and seemed to be emmitting an aura of authority. The two on the side were tense and hostile. There was one in the back, however, who smelled like the healer’s den and bore many scars. Hopefully Petrichor will stay in the tree he’s in. These cats look like they won’t take kindly to two of us, she thought. Mango frowned, quite puzzled, but she returned her sharp gaze to the cat in the middle. |

Pedrichor lashed his tail in frustration with himself as he heard the opposing feline's sharp mew. He was near certain that they had been discovered, and swarmed down the tree with nimble paws. He emerged from the bushes beside Mango, and looked quickly over the situation. They were sorely outnumbered, and he knew they had next to no chance of escape; these cats, SkyClan, he recognized, were in much better shape than he and his companion. As he heard his her hostile words, the tom cat quickly flicked her on the back with his tail tip as a warning. One musn't cause a fight he knows he cannot win. With a passive nod of his head, Pedrichor cooley greeted the felines opposite with his own courteous, sincere words. "Hello," he meowed. "Might we ask what you are doing in our territory?" His words were polite and held no hint of rash threats, yet he still held a sense of authority and honor. Though they were former Dusk Syndicates cats, Pedrichor found no harm in being a gentleman. It may even get them away without a fight. He hadn't seen enough of those for a while. |
