It was the state of uncertainty that'd kept Mudhound so out of their own head, so shaken by the whole thing and so kept them almost useless to act. If Bumblekit was dead there was nothing to do, the hunt for her corpse was borderline useless as the hawk wouldnt just leave it laying around and it'd be in some nest somewhere never to be recovered. So going through all of this just seemed like wrenching the new agonized wound open more just to end up with nothing for it. And if she was alive all this waiting around was rapidly dwindling the chance of that but they were sitting around regardless. And if the plan was to go charging in to save her Mudhound should not be taken beyond here, guiding done and disability only a hindrance to speed.

It was a rock and a hard place and the hornet wasnt coping with that thought well, only able to look at Riversong and distantly nod, trying to take in more even breaths but unable to muster a response.
It did help though.

What did muster a response however was the appearance of the riverclan tom and his subsequent words.

The large warrior who'd been sitting so despondently by the waters edge and forcing themself to breath was alive once more, exploding to their paws with a desperate gleam to their eye. "Bumblekit is alive!?! I was sure the hawk had- oh thank the stars, thank the stars! She's alive!" The grief was gone from the hornets frame, a relieved grin breaking across their face as, despite their limp they bounded to the easiest to cross portion of the river and almost bounced in place (barely restraining themself from crossing) their eyes darting to try and catch a glimpse of the kit coming as he'd promised.

Mudhound had never felt any anger towards Riverclan, had even spent most of the raid gently defeating apprentices to usher them away from the battle and only defending their downed clanmates, but now they felt gratitude. Even after everything riverclan had saved Bumblekit and were taking care of her and bringing her home. Strange perhaps, but it was awfully kind of them. Once Bumblekit was returned Mudhound was going to make sure that kid was metaphorically bubble wrapped to prevent this from ever happening again they swore.

The pair of cats that had accompanied here to this border seemed to be good to go, seeing as they branched off on their own little excursions. Drizzlecloud hummed softly to herself, making sure to stick close enough to them so that she could still catch their scents in the air before she toddled off on her own way.

The sticks came easier than the yarrow, but she only snagged one, it was a bit on the longer side but it was thick–she could just snap it if need be to fix it to another’s limb if they needed it. She managed to find some of the flowering herbs after finding the stick, to which she managed to fit at least three of the little clusters between her teeth–it proved to be a little difficult with the presence of the stick, but she made do.

Drizzlecloud returned to the warrior and apprentice duo, offering them both a smile and a nod of approval before she lifted her tail up high, her tail-tip twitching in the direction back home. A silent, wordless, let’s go, before she turned to lead the small patrol back home.

Riverclan Border Patrol

Game on.

Owltalon trotted towards a high willow. She sat underneath it's branches, thankful for the shade as the sun hadn't been kind to her as of late.

It seemed quite peaceful along the border. Hopefully it'd stay that way.

She looked behind her, her one amber eye searching for the rest of her patrol. A patrol that actually showed up, unlike her last one. They were already having a good start, she was grateful for that.

"All of you, listen up, perk your ears!" She urged, her yowls projecting enough to be heard but not disruptive. "Blossomfall @sylvia26, you go left and mark the fading scents around that area. Morningmimic @Ladiebugg, you go to the right. I'll keep watch while you mark the border. Once you're both done, I'll ripen up some scents as well. Stay alert, warriors! We have no idea how hostile things may get."

She smiled respectfully at the approaching warriors, a twinge of excitement running through her gaze.

Blossomfall padded to a stop and nodded to what she was told by her patrol leader "of course" she then went to the left, looking around the borderline for a faded scent. she sniffed when she smelled the other side, nasty...it was crow-food. a mouse beyond dead. she would report that later. she scented the faded scent of the border and took a moment to look around.

She was pleased by how swiftly the two warriors got to marking the borders, her amber eyes watching as she noticed how the grass dipped as they walked.

She flicked a scarred ear at the two of them. "All good?" She meowed, her paws kneading the ground below. She was over the moon. Maybe she was just impressed easily... That didn't matter though. Any job that had a good amount of effort was a great job in her opinion.

She swayed her tail along the tall grass, her ears perking for any suspicious activity on the other side of the border. As much as she didn't want to claw the life out of Thunderclan cats, she wasn't about to stray away from what needed to be done. That just wasn't her. If you could do something, then get up off your tail and do it.

She sniffed the air, revealed to smell that markings of Riverclan once more. "You've all done well." She purred before anycat could reply.

Speak of the devil and he shall arrive, or however the saying goes - just as Bumblestar was starting to seriously consider crossing the border, a RiverClan warrior popped into existence on the other side. She halted with her toes touching the scent line, eyes sweeping the undergrowth behind Fadingsun, looking for evidence of an ambush just out of sight. Nothing obvious, but that didn't mean she'd let her guard down for even a second.

"We'll wait," she managed after a terse moment. "It's important she gets back home safe as soon as possible."

VultureEye had his sharp yellow eyes fixated on the RiverClan warrior standing in front of him. He felt a sense of unease as he surveyed the area beyond the scent line, wondering what dangers might be lurking in the shadows. As VultureEye watched, he noticed the tension between Bumblestar, his leader, and the RiverClan warrior. He admired Bumblestar's ability to maintain a sense of control in the situation and trusted his leader's judgment. He knew that if Bumblestar thought it was best to wait, then that was what they would do. VultureEye settled down onto his haunches, his tail flicking impatiently as he waited for any sign of aggression from the RiverClan warrior.

A relieved Riversong let out a little sigh. It seemed that RiverClan was in a fine mood today. Although they were still unsettled by the fact that Bumblekit was still in enemy territory, Riversong couldn’t deny that a kit who fell from a hawk would probably need treatment. As seconds stretched out into what seemed like hours, Riversong flicked their blue eyes back and forth between Bumblestar and Fadingsun. It was an awkward gathering of two clans’ members, and the longer Mistyshard failed to appear, the more tension began seeping through the air. Riversong began to paw the dirt anxiously. Would it be better for them to fetch the kit themselves, or would they be forced to wait for the sneaky fish-brains to fetch Bumblekit? And without a ThunderClan cat to watch, who would make sure that RiverClan wouldn’t place traitorous thoughts in their head? Or even worse, if Bumblekit ran into those two cats… which cats again? Some apprentices. Riversong couldn’t remember why, but something about RiverClan and healing brought grief to their head. Oh well, that was a problem for another day. They stared expectantly into Fadingsun’s eyes, not quite sure what their gaze was asking for.
