i'm in a field of (bluets), wishing on every one. [p]

Bluetkit didn't know when she'd stopped watching. Stopped watching, stopped caring, stopped... hoping. It'd just... happened, and then after that, Bluetkit hadn't looked back. Only forward, where nothing and no one could abandoned her, could hurt her. She hadn't always been like this, so morose and pensive. No, Bluetkit had been one of StarClan's liveliest kits, swearing to get her naming ceremony (she wanted to be a Bluetpaw, damn it all to hell!), and eventually StarClan's very own leader!, but day after day had flitted by, and Bluetkit had been denied over and over again by adults who chuckled at her and shook their heads with pity in their eyes.

Every time, she was turned down, and slowly, her relentlessly positive attitude had dwindled into... this. Moping. Not belonging. Why? Because her father was gone. Her dead mother had never visited her. Her adoptive mother had disappeared. Her dead brother - Archkit - was nowhere to be found. Who knew where Bluekit was? And Crowpaw... Crowpaw had been gone too. Until by chance, she'd peered through a veil and seen her brother. In camp again, in her sights once more.

It made something in Bluetkit's heart lurch with longing. A wanting to be missed, to be required, to be needed, to belong to someone in any way possible. She didn't care for specifics. Hell, she'd happily take scraps of anyone's love. It was hope that bloomed in her heart then, and then quick on it's heels came insecurity. What if he didn't want her? What if he didn't need her? What if a year's gap was far too much time and he'd forgotten her? (Tiny as she was, Bluetkit was due to turn twelve moons in a couple days. Her! Twelve moons! She could have been a warrior by now if... if she hadn't died.) So many what if's. So many if's.

Now, Bluet-not-so-kit (she had long since passed the kit age, and if someone asked her, she ought to be given a warrior name) could hardly believe her eyes as her cornflower-blue hues tracked the familiar gait of her earthen brother across... a dream. If this monstrosity of a nightmare could be called that. Swallowing roughly, Bluetkit remained in the shadows, uncertain whether to intrude or not. In the end, Bluetkit didn't need to think about it - because her paws carried her right into Crowpaw's path without needing prompting, her jaw set, her mind unable to come up with any words to say.

How did one greet their long lost older brother?

The brisk winds of the nightmares were not an unfamiliar path to the young tom. In fact, they were almost like a second home. In a way, it let him be who he thought he was. Sweetsong's visits has helped him in more ways than he could count and he'd be forever grateful. One day, these nightmares would come to an end completely. Until then, however, he would be left to dwell on the mistakes of his past.

Instead of staying in the cavern, Crowpaw took it upon himself to walk amongst the thorns and thistles, taking great care to avoid their prickly stubs. He leapt down from the small hill and began to walk along a dark, yet still path. There wasn't anything to see except the shadows of the looming trees and clouded starry skies- AH! Crowpaw bounded back, surprised to see another cat. A cat with... stars in their pelt. And Thrushstar's blue eyes....

It was his baby sister, Bluetkit, who had died at birth. The young tom couldn't help but stare at her starry multi-colored pelt, struggling to say what he's been wanting to all along. His jaws were parted, quivering. Not of fear, but of both sadness and happiness. Sad to see that his sister never got the chance to experience kit hood, apprenticeship, or warriorhood. Happy to see that she was among the better of the ancestors.

"S-sis..." Crowpaw whispered the word and gulped down the urge to cry. He didn't know how long he would be able to hold the tears back, but he'd try. The young tom didn't want to shed tears in front of his sister, who was probably living(?) her best life amongst those who... well, who took great care of the Clans. I... I thought I'd never see you again... He didn't have the courage nor the strength to speak these words, but he hoped his baby sister understood what emotions was trying to convey.
