From the moment Berryfrost had opened her eyes, she knew something was impossibly wrong. The bliss of seeing nothing but black in her dreams was gone. The bliss of savoring those dreamless nights was no more, for as of right now, she had sat up in an entirely new realm. It was a forest, as pitch black as night and somehow even more menacing. Tall trees spiraled towards the sky, chilling breeze swirling around Berryfrost. She could have sworn she heard mocking giggling on the wind, drawing refuge in her obvious fear. It was a stark comparison, her pale cream fur against the... was that red on the ground?

A shadow lurked at the edge of her vision, and mismatched eyes hurriedly turned to face it, but no features disclosed themselves. It was wholly unnatural, the stillness around her, and the silent threat this shadow radiated. But it did not move, and neither did she, rooted to her spot with fear.

And then, Berryfrost possibly did the dumbest thing she could have, aside from speaking. She blinked. And as her eyes reopened within a quarter of a second, the shadow that had lurked not so far away had disappeared, leaving her to fend for herself in the Dark Forest.
