Just a moment after Winterpaw had begun to speak, the other apprentice jumped out of her nest with claws unsheathed. Winterpaw stayed frozen as the she-cat turned to him, quite unhappy looking, and began moving her paws around like she was trying to communicate something- or demonstrate to Winterpaw how she would claw him, maybe.
Realizing he hadn't actually spoken yet, Winterpaw collected himself as best he could and (mostly) resumed his usual, calm demeanor. "I didn't mean to startle you," he placated. "I apologize for that. My name is Winterpaw, and I believe I had... accidentally moved out of my bed, while I was sleeping." Maybe the other apprentice already knew his name, but he couldn't recall meeting them before. At least not on a personal level. "I'm sorry that I woke you up."
