Buckbranch hugged Cormorantpaw back tightly, releasing a small breath of relief.
"Thank StarClan..." He stepped back to gesture at his clawed-up neck and face with a forepaw.
"That warrior got me pretty good, but it's nothing serious. I'm not going to bother Lionwhisker with a few scratches right now; he's got too many patients to tend to already." With a decisive but somewhat reluctant nod, he added,
"And tomorrow, if you're feeling up to it, we're going to start with some basic battle training, just so you can defend yourself, okay?"

Minnowthorn forced herself to her paws from her spot next to the boulder and staggered over to Lionwhisker. Even if the gash behind her right ear hadn't been bleeding as much, her right leg was almost completely soaked red.
"Hey, Lionwhisker," she managed to rasp out.
"If you aren't totally occupied, I might need some help."
