Balor sighed. He realized that he didn't really like it here, the reason that he stayed being that his brother was buried here. Balor didn't want to leave him, forever trapped beneath the mound of earth in a secluded space near the den. He twitched an ear as sirens began wail overhead and lights flashed menacingly. He hadn't even noticed how relaxed he had become to the sounds that had used to spook him so often. Balor had lived here a long time. Maybe it was time to move on.
Dodging Twolegs with ease, he nosed out of the clear opening in the side of the wall. He learned long ago that the bottom swung out, the only one that did that. He jumped out, landing softly on his feet and circled the den. He stopped beneath a tree blooming with white flowers. For a while he sat by the mound, lost in sad thoughts. At last, he slowly got to his feet and searched around for Nala's scent. Finding it, he set off in that direction.
