If she were being honest, she didn't quite know. As blank as she was, she did feel sometimes. Being on walks, whatever the weather, just felt like home to Marshfur. Back in the camp, she felt closed off, trapped. Everything that haunted her was held there, the fate of her parents, her sister, her love interest. Her hope. Every time she entered the camp, suddenly walls were closing in on her, doors were slamming shut, and she was alone. Out here, in the territory, the wild, it felt good. This was where she belonged, and maybe deep down, she knew it.

Silently, she padded through the forest, paws making soft noises against the grass with each step. She was a few steps behind Daydream, eyes to her feet, as if afraid to let the overwhelming sense of freedom take her. The sense of being able to breathe, the weight of her shame being lifted off her chest. In the presence of another cat, she felt she could not give in to the urge to feel okay, even for a short while.

"I know you asked me to help you gather herbs," She said suddenly, eyes glued to each blade of grass she pressed beneath her paws, "But why do you want me out here?"
¨to gather herbs.¨ they repeated. they didnt want her think they only dragged her out here to get information, when it was more then that. they knew themselves everyone had a dafe place, a place that made them feel at home the most. for daydream,it was camp. the safety of their clanmates felt nice. the humble chatter in the clearing, the closeness of everything. out here, they had never felt more scared.

when you barely got sleep, it was easy to manipulate things with your mind. shadows could turn nto towers monsters, the crunching of leaves could turn into foots steps, a breeze could feel like a tap on the shoulder. they felt tired and heavy, having not gotten good sleep within the last few days. their eyes seemed to be scanning every where infront of them, though they kept their nervousness in check as best as they could. this wasnt a moment about them, it was about marshfur.

¨its nice weather. its nice to get out,¨ they mewed, but they couldnt relate. they hadnt been able to leave camp without an escort in moons, but that wasnt the point. the point was they didnt want it to make it seem obvious what they were doing, trying to get her to talk. they wanted her to talk first, to initiate, seeing as trying to poking it out of her wasnt going to do well out of both of their stubbornness. they would let her take the subtle lead of conversation, starting out with small talk of course, gradually, though. they wanted her to open up to them on her own.
