The huge cat stalked through the reeds, the water up to its belly. A maw was open slightly. The cat focused on the blue, completely still. It didn't move. Only a small trickling of water broke the silence. Nothing rustled or scurried. Nothing made a peep or a chirp. And everything was still as night, along with the cat. The dawn had yet to wake up most of the critters. The tranquility lasted for minutes, the sun was slowly stretching and getting up. The cat seemed frozen to stone. Until. Silver flashed beneath the waters surface only a few bounds away from him, and before he himself knew it, he was already crashing through the water, sprinting after the fish. The fish was bolting through the water, faster than he could run. He knew he wouldn't be able to catch this fish, but he refused to give up. As it began swimming out of sight, and in to the deeper areas of the water, he made a final attempt and lunged at it. He came no where close, and splashed down on his belly in the shallow water. "Uuuugh, he quietly grumbled, maybe he shouldn't run after fish in water. He lay there for a moment, stubbornly muttering about how the fish was just lucky that it was in water. He got up with a sigh and a groan, sore from landing on pebbles. He shook his silky fur out, and slowly padded out of the water.

When his paws met mud, he immediately got into a crouch. He wasn't about to loose another catch. His nose sniffed carefully, searching the air for any thread of prey. He smirked as he caught the scent of a water vole. He followed the scent, his paws attempting to step quietly (And failing). As the rodent came into his sight, he couldn't stop himself, and leaped at it when he should've waited longer. The vole let out a terrified squeak, and started running. His bulky shape dashed forward, rapidly gaining on the critter. As his paws clamped down on wet fur, his claws dug into the water vole. It squealed with pain, but it was soon cut short. His eyes glimmered with satisfaction. Finally! He didn't screw this up! He stood still for a moment as pride washed over him, then he dug a hole, and buried the limp shape of the vole. He continued hunting for prey, but after coming across a mouse, a thrush, and another water vole, and clumsily failing to catch any of them, he retrieved his vole, and decided to pad back to camp with his embarrassingly small catch.
