Midnight lashes caused faint shadows to delve into the upper crevices of his face, femininity latching onto the tom-cat unwillingly. Val was usually a very stoic feline; he didn't like to show vulnerability; nor did he want to appear afraid. A flutter of breath escaped from his parched throat, spreading into the air in meagre strands. The pale beast began to pick through the ferns and shrubs, being careful not to accidentally topple over something. That would be humiliating, even if there were a lack of creatures in the area. Salmon-shaded nose poking at a couple of knarled roots, the brute clenched his jaw subconsciously, before craning his neck back to its usual position. The beaten-down building was unused; by humans at least. Yet, the scent of cats still hung in the air, as well as the metallic scent from before. He was unsure of whether he wanted to proceed or not, as the tom was still unaware of how many there were that had resided here.
A hefty sigh broke through his lips, a single brow making itself known as it rose upon his face.

tentatively, he rested his chin on his paws and made sure his eyes never left the door. if he heard a commotion, he wouldn't hesitate to disregard tiny's advice and bust out with tooth and claw to defend his territory. certainly not the others, of course not, why would he? under his terms, they were still trespassing. he growled to himself and shook his head, focusing on listening to what might be happening outside.

keiko followed the stocky cat with a nod to grey before she left, training kicking in as soon as she was outside. she could taste the difference out here-- she might not be as familiar with this place as that grouch of a tom in there, and she may be old, but her senses were as sharp as ever. she tasted the air and narrowed her eyes, trying to track the source of it. yeah, there was definitely something different out here. she looked to tiny for a moment, cocking her head to the side.

" what're you thinkin'? " she asked softly, not wanting to alert whatever might be in this mess of a garden, " another cat? "

the scent didnt smell of any rodent, bird, or relation to prey when he inhaled a soft breath, the similar taste of his own on his tongue. "definitely another cat, doesnt smell like any other animal that i know." his attention was interrupted when he hears shuffling of the tall grass in the backyard, green hues narrowing down on the movement. why would any cat come here? it reeked of their scents, and by them he meant keiko and grey, there was an indication that there was no more room for others here. he paced down the steps of the back porch, his dainty paws and lightweight making him almost silent with every step he took. "i'll go on one side of the moving grass while you go on the other, we can approach them that way." he mewed quietly, running his plan by the older molly. if they approached on either end, there would be little to no room for the other to escape. tiny would only harm them if they started attacking first, he wasnt one for wanting to settle everything by tooth and claw.
