It'd be good to take into account how his past shaped him; i.e., if he remembers his biological parents, how he may have a tendency to be clingy and/or a people-pleaser due to the abandonment that he faced. You'll want a well-rounded character with an almost equal amount of positive traits as well as flaws.
You can also tie in the plot of him figuring out that he's adopted, if he doesn't know it already, and how that can spark teenage rebellion, self-doubt, searching for his real parents, etc.
There's not much to go off of, so I can't help much. Sorry :-(
