A barking ruckus was all that could be heard from West's small section of the forest, which sat very close to what the clans called the twolegplace. In fact, along one edge of his domain, there was a section fenced off by the hairless twolegs. This, would be the source of the insistent yapping. It was not unprovoked, of course. One of this reckless cat's favorite passtimes was to sit upon the wooden picket fence and stare down at the tiny dog, teasing it with everything from a meow to dangling his tail down just out of its reach. And, there he was now, doing exactly that, laughing as if it was the funniest of things. West was lounging lazily along the barrier, dangling his tail just inches from the dog's snapping snout. He rested his head upon his front two paws, watching the creature try its best to get at him but to no avail. "Stupid thing..." He mused.

"West, that thing is gonna pull you down by your tail one of these days, beebrain," came the teasing voice of South. The she-cat looked up at the fence that her brother, West, was so carelessly rested upon, tilting her head to the side as she stared up at him. She bunched her hind legs and lept upwards, landing skillfully on the thin wooden board, joining her brother. South glanced down at the yipping dog, looking angrier and angrier with each passing second. Although between the two South was the more composed one - despite her occasional sarcastic one liners - the sight of the dog getting frustrated with being unable to reach West, a rumbling purr escape her lips. The ginger and white she-cat shook her head and looked at West, tipping her head to the side. "Is this what you spend your days doing now?" she teased playfully, poking his side with a slender paw.

"Mhmm," was the first thing to come from West in respond to South's sudden teasing. He tilted his head as his sister jumped gracefully up beside him, digging his claws into the wood as the fence shook gently underneath him; it wasn't the sturdiest of strutures, but it was enough to hold them both. "I think I could handle it if that was to happen," He meowed finally, but did lift his tail up and away from the pup's snapping jaws. The dog continued to glare for a moment or two, sending a few quick yaps South's way when it caught sight of her, before storming off back towards it's nest. His gaze finally moved her way as she spoke once more, staring at her with his usual steely gaze. "It's gotta be more amusing than what you've been up to." He wasn't sure if she'd take offense to his words or not, it was hard to tell when it came to talking to this sister.

South's gaze followed the growling pup as it stormed back towards it's twoleg's nest, shaking her head in amusement before looking over at West. Catching his comment about her recent activities, she felt the fur on the back of her neck start to raise a little in defensiveness but stopped it, forcing it to lie flat. A subtle growl rumbled in her chest, just barely audible, and the small she-cat looking out towards the forest. "You know he's out there somewhere. Someone has to keep an eye our for him," she muttered, her gaze searching the dense, shadowy woods that were just a few fox lengths away from where the two sat on the fence. For as long as she could remember, South had this ache in her heart that had developed once her mother had informed her and her siblings that they indeed had a brother - North - but that he had disappeared long ago. It boiled the she-cat blood that no one else care to look for him, or concern themselves with his whereabouts.

Snapping back into reality, South looked back at her brother, narrowing her eyes slightly. "Do you even remember what he looked like? How he was? Because I don't. And it's starting to scare me. I mean, we have a whole other sibling somewhere out there! I need someone who can help me keep you in line," she said, spitting out the last sarcastic comment with her trademark eyeroll, accompanying a typical head shake. Sure, South could sometimes come off as pushy to her siblings, and over the top, and the one trait that not only her siblings but every other cat knew about her, was that she was going to speak her mind: regardless of the repercussions.

West's barely caught South's defensive growl, his ears perking in definitely not a good way. The tom could already predict the next few things that were going to happen; it happened everytime she came out to his territory to talk to him. He sighed loudly as soon as she began to talk, gritting his teeth. At first, he didn't say anything; he knew his sister well enough to know that those first two sentences weren't going to be enough for her. South had been all over this topic for the last few weeks. At first, it had concerned West, it had bugged him that he had a brother out there that he hadn't gotten to know. But now it just annoyed him.

His hackles rose as well, only West didn't have the courtesy to hide it. He gritted his teeth until she was finished and then finally rose into a sitting position. "First," He growled. "No, I don't remember what he looked like. We were only two moons old when he disappeared." The tom glared South's way, his blue eyes cold. "Second," He continued. "That was a long time ago. We don't even know if he even made in out here in the wilderness, and if he did, do you think he would want us to just storm into his life and mess it up?"

"And third," The tom jumped down from the fence with a huff. "I don't need you, or anyone else for that matter, to look after me." He began to storm away, but knew that South would just come after him.

Up until now, South had forced her fur to lie flat. She always tried to remain calm, despite knowing that every time she brought up North to her brother, it ended like this. Now, however, seeing him start to storm off like every time before as well, South let out an irritated screech and pounced down, aiming to land right in front of him. Her hackles were now up, and she glared at West, her blue eyes lit up in an icy rage. "First off, I'm your sister and even though you just sit up on your fence all day long practically throwing your life away doesn't give you the right," she started, pausing to gather her thoughts before continuing, "to storm off after every time we talk about this!" Despite being noticeably smaller than her brother, South was just as intimidating as any.

"You might not care about our brother," South spat, raising her neck fur and taking a step closer to him. "But do you really believe he doesn't ever wonder where his family is? Where we are?" she questioned. Usually she didn't get this riled up, as she was known to keep things light, joking. However something about the topic of her brother bothered her. Something tugged at her to go out, to look for him. She couldn't exactly describe the feeling, but something urged her that something had happened, and that she needed to find out exactly what.

West stumbled to a halt as South jumped right now in front of him, almost running right into her, but being able to stop just in time. For a moment, he looked a bit afraid (), as he knew he had done it now; South meant business. However, as she literally insulted his choice of lifestyle right in front of him (though her words were true), the look was wiped away. His own steely blue orbs had a similar look to hers in just a few seconds. Up close, a cat could probably tell they were related, but from far away it looked like two cats quarreling over territory. He rose to his full height stubbornly, towering over her much smaller frame in an attempt to look just as intimidating.

West had an exceptional memory, a trait that not even his closest "friends" knew. He had lied, the tom actually remembered every tiny bit of information he had time to learn about North before he had been taken away. Thoguh, he hadn't remembered well until his mother had told them about him. After that day, he had dreamt none stopp about his earlier life, until he had finally gotten sick of it and tried to distract himself. West and North had been close before the twolegs had taken him away. Deep inside, the tom did miss his brother, but that was a feeling that the tom refused to acknowledge.

He breathed heavily for a moment, taking deep calming breaths. "How do you even know he remembers us??" The tom questioned, his blue eyes turned away. "He's probably happily living his life, with a new family, somewhere out there." He sighed, and made his fur lie flat. "Besides, even if we went out to find him, we'd have no idea where to start."

As she watched her brother mock her intimidating stance, South felt a flash of annoyance, although she'd half expected it; her brother was stubborn like that. Despite the size different, however, South refused to let this force her to back down from her brother. "Rise up all you want, but you know my words are true," she muttered under her breath, shaking her head as she continued to lock eyes with West.

During his momentary silence, South let her mind wander all the way back to kithood, where it was her, West, North, their sister East, and their mother. The memory was a bit foggy, but ever since Compass, their mother, had reviled to them that they had a brother who was taken away, South began to remember bits and pieces of her early life. She faintly remembered playing kit games with her siblings - running around until they either got into trouble, or their mother caught them just in time. Sadly, she also recalled the day that North was taken away from them. Since then, the siblings had all but broken up.

South snapped her thoughts back to reality as she heard her brother speak once more. She looked at him, a brief feeling of sympathy washing over her. Only she knew of her brothers memory - she was his sister, of course - so she knew he remembered probably even more than she did of their lost brother. "But what if he's not?" she murmured, looking out into the dense forest that surrounded them. "What if he's looking for us? Or what if he got attacked and kidnapped by those forest cats we've heard about?" At the mention of forest cats, South felt a prickle go up her spine, and a mix of curiosity and fright entered her mind. If North had, in fact, been kidnapped by the wild forest cats, how would they save him? She was lousy at even play fighting, and she knew no matter how intimidating West was, he most likely wouldn't stand a chance against those feral felines.
