Re: classical music for your ocs!

pinepaw
-Shostakovich - Symphony no. 5 finale
second shosta in a row lets gooo
-composer
Specifically about Shostakovich that fit Pinepaw well in my opinion was this story about him. (or a simple fact?) He used to sleep in a stairwell because his 'scandalous' composing and works had the KGB after him. He chose to do so to essentially spare his family from witnessing his arrest if it so happened. Fun (not really fun but yk-) fact; he escaped interrogation only because his own interrogator had been arrested themselves. Anyways, his choice to separate himself from his family to protect them seemed like a Pinepaw thing to do. Plus, Shostakovich did his own little things from time to time to try and protest, acting in ways that the public most likely viewed as reckless or brave, depending on the person. While all he ever did was write music, it was a lot more and had more meaning/effect during the time of the USSR. In general, everything about Shostakovich's actions felt like a very Pinepaw thing to do.
-piece
This piece is seen as a...general "man, shut up about what I can and can't compose. Take this finale and leave me alone, your censorship is trash," to many theorizers, but some see it as genuinely triumphant. Eh. What I can say is that the beginning was very energetic, loud, and gave off a feeling of bravery or aggressiveness. The middle has a quiet, slower part that I could interpret as Pine's mourning for lost family. It'd make sense, in a different, slower movement in the piece it is said that it was Shostakovich's mourning for a teacher he had that had been arrested. I could definitely see this piece as something for Pinepaw, no matter the interpretations of its true meaning.

Re: classical music for your ocs!
waterdance
-Mendelssohn's - Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage, Op 27
-composer
Mendelssohn's style was less harsh and abrasive than other composers around him, somewhat reflecting his own upbringing. His music was soft, reserved, and meant for politeness. While Waterdance can be both snappy and soft, her love for nature made me lean towards a gentler route. Plus, her love for water (and staring at it) made me inclined to something more peaceful.
-piece
Cool fact: this man had never seen the sea before composing this piece. And then he did, got seasick, and hated the whole voyage experience that he had. Oops. Anyways, when I was looking for a piece, I was specifically paying attention to the use of the brass. I didn't want a piece with too much or with it being overly...brassy, which was why I chose Mendelssohn in the first place. Plus, too much brass can often take away the gentleness. However, this piece utilized the brass very well and I especially love the little bits of woodwinds poking in at the beginning. Not as much as I love the cello part, though. Back to the topic at hand, this piece was so calm and wistful that it reminded me of Waterdance and her obsession? with staring at the water. The swells in dynamics captured the idea of waves, much like the sea RiverClan lives by.
