It hurt to see the young tom cry like this, he felt like an adoptive son to you. You were the one guiding him and training him to take your place for when you wouldn't be able to do your work anymore. And in moments like this, it was easy for you to want to just put down your duties as a medicine cat and just console the ones you love, to take a breather and regroup. But you knew better, after moons of doing this work, you knew that time was always of the essence. If you didn't check the body now, the chance that it would be there later for you to check was slim. You needed to know if the queen had really eaten deathberries, if that's what she died from, or if there was something else that your poor apprentice missed.
Allowing a brief moment of silence for your apprentice to sob some more, you would lay your tail gently along his back and stand. "I'm sorry Tuftpaw, you can take a break from your duties soon, I just.. I need you to take me to her. I just want to.. To double check. We can bring her back to camp together so that Settingstar can organize a proper burial."

Sniffling heavily and looking at you with his tear-filled, pained gaze, Tuftpaw would slowly nod his head, rising to his paws, your tail falling from his back. Turning to lead, you could see his shoulders visibly sagging and his tuft of a tail hanging as limply as physically possible as the stump could lay. Your heart ached for him. Everyone was close in the clan, to lose one member felt like you were losing a part of your heart. The only thing that made you different was that you had to be the one to still heal everyone, even if you, yourself, were hurting. Hopefully one day Tuftpaw could do that, otherwise his duty as a medicine cat would become all the more difficult. After all, you had to be there for the sick and dying, you had to be the one to face the real-world consequences of failed actions and memory. Sometimes you had to watch the light die from your clanmates eyes. It was hard, and it was never meant to be easy. But it still hurt that you had to put your duty before consoling him. He was still so young. Still so full of empathy and compassion, not that you weren't, but he was.. He had heart.

A few minutes later Tuftpaw came to a stop, and so too did you. But confusion hit you. "But she was... She was right here.." The sound of his voice drifted to your ears, causing you to look at him as he stared straight ahead. You looked back forward but there was nothing there.
Stepping closer you notice that the grass is flattened and inhaling you can definitely tell Dapplethroat had been here at least at one point, but she was certainly not here now.
"She was.. She was dead.. I-I.. She.. She wasn't.. Breathing.. The foam..."
Inhaling again you can pick out some other scents, some unfamiliar, one was that of a badger. You think it smells old, but not stale. It was distinct. There was the slight scent of decay.. This was abnormal.
"You were absolutely sure she was dead?" That was all you could think to ask as you turned back to your apprentice who simply stood there in shock.
"Yes! She wasn't breathing! Nor did she move or even look at me when I prodded and spoke to her! W-What's.. What's going on? Did something take her? Should we find out?"

Pausing, you think about what you should say next.

[A] "We should follow her scent and see if it leads anywhere."
[B] "No, we should go back and report this to Settingstar immediately."
[C] "No, we still have to finish with Gentlestep, get her somewhere quiet."
[D] "No, it's getting late and we need to get rest before tomorrow."
