Nightpaw frowned as his tail continued to twitch slightly. That could be worked out later, with an actual mentor. For now, he should concentrate on catching prey. "Can you scent anything?" she asked, glancing around. At first, the scents were confusing for her to separate. Nightpaw still struggled to pick out the smell of prey over the forest. @rosetherosey

He was having a bit of trouble picking out any scent as his only experience with prey was the fresh-kill pile. His favorite food was a mouse, so he instantly could tell that was there though. "A mouse!" Buckpaw mewed, probably to loud out of pure excitement.

Nightpaw frowned, trying to find where the smell was coming from. Then, she picked it out under an oak tree. "Good job," she meowed. "I didn't know that was there. Keep in mind that a mouse will probably here you when you talk that loud. Now, see if you can stalk up to it and catch it." @rosetherosey

Buckpaw nodded, and slowly moved out the crouch. He walked over to the oak, keeping his head down. With that, he got into the crouch position again. It was sloppy, but at least his back was straight. Buckpaw locked his eyes on the small creature as it frolicked among the roots of the tree. Then he pounced, unluckily he missed by a few tail-lengths and it escaped before he had the chance to even try and kill it.

Nightpaw thought that his stalking wasn't bad. His pounce was a little off and he missed the mouse. "That's okay, I missed my first time, too," she mewed. She wasn't sure how to correct any of his work, other than telling him to practice it. "You'll get the pounce down soon. It takes some getting used too." @rosetherosey

"I hope so!" Buckpaw mewed. He probably just needed to train with his mentor. "I bet I'll be pretty good at it in the future. Maybe even as good as you!"

(does he seem awkward or energetic because he might be a bit of both XD)

"With practice, you'll be fine." Nightpaw squirmed. She wasn't by any standards a good hunter. Her catch had been half asleep and half-grown. She was glad that Buckpaw hadn't lost any enthusiasm over missing the mouse. It was good that he was so energetic. "Let's move a little ways. We've probably scared off the prey. Now," she meowed when they had moved. "Do you smell anything here?" @rosetherosey @rosetherosey

Buckpaw nodded and followed Nightpaw. As she instructed, he lifted his nose to the air to see if he could scent any prey. He focused on the scents, they were all seemingly overlapping. But, he was able to make out one strong scent. "I think... A vole?" He questioned quietly, not wanting to say the same mistake he said last time.

Nightpaw tasted the air and nodded approvingly. "That's right." She thought for a moment. She didn't know what to tell him to make his stalking better, so she just meowed, "try and catch it." Maybe he would do something different. Nightpaw was starting to realize how difficult mentoring could be. @rosetherosey

Buckpaw nodded. He began to creep forward, glad that he was doing well at least. He got a good distance away and crouched down. The vole seemed to not have caught wind of him yet, so it was the perfect time to pounce. Buckpaw leapt through the air and latched his claws onto the strange creature. He attempted to bite it, yet somehow it squirmed out of his grasp. Disappointedly, he slunk back to Nightpaw. "I was so close!" He mewed.
