A confirmation of approval, albeit strained. It mattered little, how much Magpiewisp genuinely approved - even something coerced counted in Brokenstar's eyes.
He flashed a smile toward Beansprout and his little daughter. It lacked sincerity - the sort of smile one gives when they don't mean it. The trio of buffoons had put a damper on his mood, and he was far from pleased. "Congratulations, Beanstar, the Covenant has decided to expedite your freedom. Have fun in your new life."
A dismissive flick of his tail was all it took, before Beansprout would begin to dissipate into mist. Somewhere below, in ThunderClan camp, a tiny kit would make its first cry.
His gaze fell on Fawnlight, contemplating. Regardless of Otterfluff's actions, he'd take the hits to ensure Magpiewisp was secured. "Well done, tadpole. You can have fun playing babysitter to that former father of yours. Are you finished with your tantrum yet?" How she continued this pathetic display would determine if the punishment escalated.

Foreshadowing Stalked Over The Small Kit. Its Alright. She Wrapped Her Tail Around Them.
"If being starless means standing up to Dark Forest fleas who pick on those weaker, then these are not the stars I once followed." Teeth pierced his leg and Otterfluff let out a hiss, aiming a hard, sharp kick towards Brokenstar's chest. Despite his best efforts he knew he was blocked, and his heart clenched a little out of anguish. No wonder the tom who flew over them and pinned the former medicine cat had a pelt void of stars; it took a certain darkness to kill a defenseless cat.
Meanwhile Fawnlight stared with wide eyes as Magpiewisp was blocked - but only briefly. A glint of claws was all she saw before she felt herself collide with the ground. The physical pain of claws in her neck, her side, everywhere... it burned. It made her want to yowl in pain, tears already spilling from distraught eyes. But the cat who had pinned her wasn't the cause of her anguish. No, that was the disappearing figure of her father.
Dad. The one she had turned her back on, had spent time angry at. The one who had perhaps still needed her one last time - and yet she had denied him that in order to protect her own peace. It didn't feel deserved now, that peace. Not anymore. It felt childish, like she was nothing more than a petulant kit crying over things she didn't understand. She wasn't naive, she knew of the things he had done. The awful, terrible things. But regardless of any of that... he was her dad. He had been there when she had caught her first piece of prey. He had been there when she had fallen over and over again, saving her time and time again. Sure he hadn't been perfect - was any parent ever really perfect? But he deserved a happy ending, or at least... better than the pitiful defense she had tried to put up.
Watching him disappear felt like claws splitting her in two, and at that moment Fawnlight felt herself shatter.
"DAD!"
It was a shrill scream, louder than anything that had ever left her. It was full of pain and grief, of anger and guilt. It was compromised of all of the things she desperately wished she would've taken the time to say to him, and the crushing reality that she wouldn't ever be able to. Whatever physical pain the cat above her was causing didn't exist. He could be reducing her to nothing more than dust, and it wouldn't hold a candle to the way her heart was breaking.
She wasn't sure how long she spent there, blue eyes staring helplessly at the spot where her dad had been. Sounds had been dulled, a numbness spreading over her pelt. This didn't feel real. Nothing felt real. Fawnlight felt stuck as she finally forced herself to look up at Brokenstar, then Magpiewisp. There was no fight left in her. Like a rope severed at its base, she was left hanging limply in life. "...Just kill me." Dead. There was no emotion in her eyes, her voice - just a dull, lifeless ache. She knew what was coming, and with nothing left to defend here, she would welcome it. Death would be kinder than this life had ever been.
He was fighting. Brokenstar and Magpiewisp. Thrashing and snarling and biting and he didn't care what else in the world happened; he had to win. So, the siamese didn't hear the two toms' brief exchange. Before he knew it, he was wriggling free, taking a moment to gasp for precious air. Just as he was about to jump back into the fray, try to force Magpiewisp off his daughter, he felt an icy cold chill run down his spine.
Something was wrong.
The tom's pupils narrowed to slits and his fur puffed up as the words left Brokenstar's smug mouth. New life. With a flick of the ancient cat's tail, the world began to fade. With a strangled cry, he flung himself toward Fawnlight, not to free her but to push his forehead against her shoulder if he could. And to whisper four words:
