A small glimmer of amusement flickered in Fernwhisker’s eyes. She used the move I taught her against another Dark Forest cat! Interesting… at least she pays attention to that part of her training…

“Answer us, Mothpaw,” she hissed, pushing Mothpaw off of Willowsong. “We will not be fighting yet. Do you swear to keep the secret and to never even think of exposing it?”

“Good. And if me or Willowsong ever think you are going to break this promise, you will face worse punishment than this. Now, since you have used the move I have taught you in combat, you have proven you are more than ready to take on the next part of your training.” Fernwhisker’s words were calm, yet etched with a hostile tone.

She continued, “This move is called the ‘bite and shake’. It’s a lot like ‘bite and pin’, but it does much more damage. I must admit- I’ve used this move a time or two when I was living amongst the Clans to save my life. Willowsong will watch, so only pay attention to me. Now, the ‘bite and shake’ is really self-explanatory, but since you are only an apprentice, I will explain it. You will only use this move if you are pinned. The first thing you do when using this move is dig your claws into your opponent’s belly and shoulder. And make sure they are secure in your opponent’s belly- it’s the most sensitive spot there is on a cat. With any luck, this’ll tear their stomach open.”

The she-cat took a moment to pause, allowing the information to be taken in by the apprentice. She then continued.

“While you are pinned, you will use your teeth and stretch your neck to get your teeth close to your opponent’s neck. Once they’re close enough, you latch onto your opponent’s neck and shake them as violently as possibly. You’ll tear fur and skin as well as make them dizzy. And- while shaking- you repeatedly kick your opponent’s stomach, digging your claws in each time. Got it? Now, try it on me. And do not hesitate to be as harsh as possible- think you are in a battle, not a training session.”

Mothpaw listened in horror, and gulped down uncomfortably, letting the information to process through. She nodded. This is going to hurt
She dove at her mentor, and dug her claws at Fernwhisker. At first when she just did her first move, she did it lightly. Now she knew that Fernwhisker didn’t bother at the pain so she grabbed her neck and pulled pathetically.

"That was pathetic! You're battling warriors, not rats!" Fernwhisker hissed and launched forward for Mothpaw, the impact was heavy. "Again!"

Mothpaw winced at the pain, then narrowed her eyes, ignoring the burning ache. She ran at the she-cat, clawing her underbelly, and grabbing the scruff and ripping a bit of fur in the process, and shook her very hard. “Does it hurt?”she mewed.

"Hardly," Fernwhisker hissed, using her unsheathed claws and scraping them against Mothpaw's cheek. "Was that as violent as you could shake? You should be able to make your opponent dizzy. And you should not be concerned if it hurt or not, you won't be asking your opponent that in a real battle, now will you?"

Fernwhisker grinned slightly and slashed Mothpaw’s belly in a diagonal fashion. She looked at the wound with satisfaction.

“Thank you, Willowsong. I’m positive our secret will be safe.” She then sat back, waiting for Mothpaw to react.
