A fuzzy flashback appeared on Snowdrift’s mind. It wasn’t a clear memory but she was able to make out some parts of it. Snowkit/drift’s eyes wandered around the scene. Fluffs of cold ice were falling, no, dancing across the sky looking carefree as they landed near their other friends. It would have been a nice view if she wasn’t so cold. The molly shivered while letting out a puff of condensation which quickly blended in with the frosty atmosphere. To take a few steps in this harsh environment was hard to do for the little kit.
A glimpse of a starry wisp floated through the air. Snowkit/drift glanced warily not trusting things after what happened between her and her family. The wisp was shaped into a cat who padded towards the kit. Snowkit/drift was tempted to run away but something about this cat made her stay. Almost like if this was her hope for a better life. Maybe if Snowkit/drift could see what they have to offer first. If the cat’s offer was too shady then Snowkit/drift would have liked it, she should run away from them like she ran away from home.
The cat gave her a warm smile before speaking to her in a tender voice.
“Little one, you have made a grave mistake running away. For the time being, you should rest up a bit so you can do what you must do. Follow along,” it spoke as it pranced to a shadow of what seemed like a barn. Snowkit/drift tried her best to keep up with the cat when she had low energy. The molly panted as she knew that her prediction was correct that the cat had indeed led her to an abandoned barn.
There were so many questions she wanted to ask this starry cat.
“Wwwho are you?” the kit at that time asked. The cat certainly didn’t look like a normal cat. But Snowkit/drift was so sleepy that she couldn’t tell the difference between living things and non living things at the moment.
“I am from Starclan. A clan is where cats live together and contribute to each other. Starclan is a group of dead cats,” the cat informed Snowkit/drift.
It was a bit to take in at first for a kit. They could be lying but trying to touch the cat with her tail told her otherwise. But if this cat was truly dead, was Snowkit/drift dead as well? No story that she had ever heard had a dead cat talking to a living cat. Did she die from the frost? Then how come it was still a bit chilly in the cold? Could a dead cat feel the cold as well?
As if the cat was reading her mind, they shook their head in a ‘no’.
“You still have a long way to go, young one. Your time has not come yet. I am just here to deliver a message sent by the stars,” they spoke with a hint of warning,
“which told me that you made a grave mistake.” They then vanish out of thin air which barely surprised Snowkit/drift given the fact that they probably were done with the message.
The molly trotted into the barn which was weirdly enough warmer than outside. It quickly dried her wet fur but the most magnificent view was the moon. A glow of the light casts in the hole of the barn roof. That was a spot where the snow came in but quickly melted from the heat stored inside of the barn. Definitely one of the sensations that Snowkit/drift missed most about home where it was warm even though she wasn’t wanted there. Aka,her mother, would probably not be missing her with Sand and Dark to be occupied with. Snowkit/drift’s heavy eyes led the kit fall asleep to the contrast of the warmth of the barn shielding her icy weather outside of the exit.
Morning came soon after telling Snowkit/drift it was time to go back to settle things between her family once and for all. That was what the Starclan cat said the stars wanted her to do right? A rumbling noise echoed from her belly telling her that she should eat something. Mice were pretty common around the barn so she didn’t have trouble finding them. Something else caught her eyes as she went to explore her options of food. It was some dried out pellets that clinged with the aroma of rabbit. Snowkit/drift raced to it to devour it whole. Not the best choice of meal but it did give her the energy to go back to the cave where she was from.
Young Snowkit/drift remembered the death scent that greeted her as she arrived there. Her sister, Sand, scrawny with their ribs showing out. There was an exchange of unwelcoming words but one sentence struck Snowkit/drift’s heart the hardest.
“You. Killed. Our. Family. You. Murder.” hissed Sand casting a wave of salty tears from Snowkit/drift as they ran away again getting the message that the Starclanner delivered.
1 year passes from that incident with her family as Snow in her apprentice ages as a loner wanted to live her life to the fullest as possible with her friends. Their giggles over jokes and gossips echoed through the area. Her friend looked at the sun telling them that they have something coming over leaving Snow a bit disappointed that they couldn’t hang out a bit longer. It was a good few hours of talking though.
Snow leapt down from the fence back to the road where she was staying as a loner. The wind blew in her direction with another cat’s scent carried on the breeze. She stiffened up trying to quicken her pace knowing that something bad was following her. The molly trekked to her shelter only to be confronted by a familiar scent. The cat leapt out with their claws unsheathed which jolted Snow that it was Sand. Her sister was back for revenge.
They circled each other calculating the distance between the two. Sand launches herself at Snow who dodged. Snow then raked her claws against her sister’s side earning a yowl of pain which turned to an angry growl. Sand tried again only to have Snow pin her down with claws near Sand’s throat. “Why are you here?” demanded Snow who was curious to see why her sister showed up after a year. Was she hunted down by her own sister.
“I’m quite sure you know what I need. Now, let me go.” Sand snarled as she tried to struggle against the pin only to earn 2 slaps on her head from Snow. This made Snow suspicious that Sand wanted to kill her.
“I will repeat my question.. Why. Are. You. Here?” Snow raised her voice digging her back leg into Sand’s stomach. Sand hissed trying to struggle again but failed.
“Dear dear tiny fragile Snow. Let me go right now!” Sand winced as blood started to pool around them like a puddle. Snow ignored this and continued.
“Do not play dumb with me and tell me why-” Snow started before her sister coughed up blood which made Snow realize that she stuck her claws into the throat of Sand. The molly gasped before getting off of Sand. It was a flash as blood gushed out but that wasn’t the worst part about it.
Sand in her final moments glared at Snow.
“Murder...” she whispered in Snow’s ear before collapsing into a still stance. Snow stood there still as a rock while her paws were smeared with blood. Any creature walking by would have thought that they were both dead.
It fades back out as present day Snowdrift tried her best to forget but didn’t know how to forget when it continuously haunted her. Nothing could change the fact that she could have been the reason why her family died out. Sand’s voice whispered the terrible words which Snowdrift could hear every minute of her life.
