A question because I had an idea for a character and was genuinely curious: Can cats have diseases such as Von Willebrand Disease, which is a bleeding disorder? To my knowledge it causes blood to stop clotting, so that it’s very hard to stop bleeding once it starts, even from a little cut.

@Wingnettle
According to this site: https://www.merckvetmanual.com/cat-o...-cats#v3243016
There are some congenital diseases (Hemophilia) that causes prolonged bleeding, because of various genetic defects of the anticoagulant system.

Another condition that can be often found is intoxication of rodenticides (the cat eats a mouse/rat that has been poisoned, but seems fine) that stop the anticoagulant system from working. Completely. So this is 100% lethal unless treated.

• Which symptoms should your cat have?
Cataracts
• Do you want a genetic or acquired illness/condition?
Acquired
• How many moons is this cat? Is it a certain breed?
She’s 121 moons, ten years and one month. She’s a mutt, lmao.
• What's the cat past? How/where does it live now?
She’s never had any eye trauma, and she resides in WindClan in the elder’s den.
• Has it already some condition/other problems?
Nah.
• What should the outcome of the illness/condition be?
I just want to see what info you have on how cataracts develop and how they may affect a cat’s lifespan.
• Is there a bigger plot around the illness/condition?
Nope.

Hello! There are many reasons why an aged cat would go blind.
From this source: https://pets.thenest.com/cat-blindne...-age-9977.html
we can see that cataracts is among the causes. It is also explained that the process may be gradual or sudden, depending on the cause for the blindness. In your case, I would opt for a gradual loss of vision that might start from partial blindness to a total one. I think you have a wide range of choices for the time range in which the process happens, so I would say it is totally up to you since there are way too many factors contributing to this, and since the cat is imaginary you have free choices on them.

"As kitties age, they become more susceptible to illnesses such as high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes mellitus, cataracts, glaucoma and eye infections, all of which can cause blindness, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. While sometimes vision loss comes on suddenly, many times a gradual progression of these illnesses slowly reduces your kitty's vision over time."
