HailClan was once settled between two others known as FrostClan and SquallClan. While the other two made their home in the mountain peaks, HailClan lived within the valley, tucked between the foothills. Meetings and battles between the three Clans were few and far between due to their distance.
HailClan resided within the valley for seasons without much trouble; until one fateful spring, where the snowmelt was too much, and rushed down to flood HailClan’s home. The valley cats were forced to evacuate, and when they reached out to the others for assistance, they were turned away.
So HailClan, a group of roughly fifty warriors, apprentices, and kits, led by Bearstar, left their long-lived home in search of another… but the journey was far from kind. They were built for the frigid temperatures of the valley, certainly not the warmer climate of the southern forests, and the new dangers were many. What was once a group of fifty had dwindled down to just fifteen.
Bearstar is now in charge of a tiny group of cats, who are struggling to navigate their new home and the threats that come with it.
The Forest Territory
The forest territory is based heavily on Conecuh National Forest in Alabama, although featured wildlife has been extended. Summers are hot and humid, and often bring many thunderstorms, while winters are only slightly cooler, ranging in the 40s-60s.
General plant life includes ferns, bushes, shrubs, and several species of deciduous trees. Camp: A grassy clearing surrounded by trees, with a small creek running through the middle. Dens are fashioned from the bushes or dug out into the raised hill around the edge. The medicine den is underneath a few downed tree trunks. The leader’s den is tucked beneath the announcement place known as the Mountain Stone, a large jut of jagged rocks near the far edge of the camp. Beast-ridden Swamp: Near the very outer edge of the forest territory, the Murky Swamp is a dangerous location. Waters are deep, muddy, and often difficult to see, and fog is a constant feature. Alligators are a very prominent threat. Desecrated Catacombs: What appears to be an old mining spaces tucked into a rocky outcropping actually leads to a maze of old tunnels. The depths are dark, damp, and stifling - often littered with skeletons of animals and humans alike. The main tunnel leads to an untouched mass of pale gemstones. Be wary of breaking away from the main paths, as return is unlikely. Hazel Grove: A flowering grove with thick undergrowth surrounded by hazel trees. Hunting runs plenty easy here, though cats should be wary of snakes. A small pond sits in the very center. Mossy Rest: An old abandoned Twoleg den, large and grand beneath the vines and overgrowth that eat away at it. The inside seems to be rotting away, and bears frequent the area. Cats are advised to steer clear.
Because these cats originated from the mountains, they sport several special adaptations that helped them to thrive. Their fur is thick, their paws large, and their ears small in order to trap in the heat. White, pale, or brown pelts are most common, though patterns and colors aren’t limited.
Typical Nomenclature
HailClan originated from the mountain area, therefore names should be based off of the wildlife found there, or other themes unrelated to the wildlife of the forest territory, at least for now. (To see animals that could be found in the mountain territory, click here; for plants, click here.)

Pre-Roleplay History
Important history prior to the current roleplay
April 2022: Snowmelt begins. HailClan’s camp floods and they are forced to evacuate. HailClan approaches FrostClan and SquallClan for assistance, and are turned away. The search for a new home begins. May 2022: The journey stretches on, led by Bearstar and then-deputy Lynxfreeze. They happen upon a large group of rogues and are quickly driven away from the area, resulting in several casualties. Numbers begin to dwindle. June 2022: Bearstar loses her fifth life due to infection, leaving her with four. The temperatures start to rise, and without a solid place to stay and rest for long, illness and dehydration make their appearance, taking with them several members of HailClan, including Lynxfreeze. August 2022: HailClan finds the forest territory. They establish a camp, but not before losing most of their remaining numbers to the hidden threats that lie in wait. Bearstar does her best to restake order alongside her medicine cat. Fifteen cats remain.

Activity checks will be conducted every two weeks. If you have not posted with your character(s) at least once during this time, they will be removed from the roleplay and considered missing; you will then be required to undergo a rejoining roleplay with Bearstar or her deputy. For each time they go missing, they will receieve a mark. If a character receieves three marks, they may no longer attempt to rejoin and will be considered exiled.
For high ranking characters, activity checks will be conducted weekly. If you have not posted with your high-ranking character at least twice during this time, you'll recieve a message notifying you that your character has recieved a mark. Marks for high-ranking characters work similarly to the former: if they receieve three marks within a two-month timeframe, they will lose their rank. If a high-ranking character goes missing, they will lose their rank and will not have it reinstated should they rejoin.
If you consistently only meet the bare minimum post quota, whether your character is a high-rank or not, your character's position in the Clan may be reevaluated.
Due to the tragic events that have occured, and the dangers of the new territory, Bearstar has increased the intensity of the tasks required to be met in order to rank up within HailClan
Apprentices need to have existed as an apprentice for at least one month real time and should be minimally twelve moons old to qualify for a ceremony.
At least one hundred roleplay posts must have been made with the character as an apprentice.
Apprentices need at least seven training instances under the guidance of any HailClan warrior to qualify for a final assessment. These must include one hunting lesson, one battle training lesson, and one stealth tactics lesson.
Additional ways to qualify include:
Patrols of any kind
Battle experience
Plot participation
Any other sort of instance in which the character gains some sort of life experience.
Apprentices must attend three Clan meetings. This includes showing up to their own ceremony via roleplay and reacting to announcements and other ceremonies accordingly.
Apprentices will complete a final assessment, overseen by Bearstar, consisting of an overnight wilderness survival challenge. If an assessment is failed, the apprentice must complete an additional training instance before attempting again. Continued failures will result in reevaluation of the apprentice's suitability to Clan life.
Apprentices must not have been recently punished by a High Rank.
Apprentices over the age of 18 moons will have their place in HailClan reevaluated by Bearstar to ensure they are suited for Clan life.
Characters will need at least 250 posts as a warrior.
To qualify due to old age, characters need to be at least eighty moons old.
To qualify due to any other reason prior to old age, characters will need a valid reason, such as a health condition, in order to retire. Characters will be assessed by the medicine cat or medicine cat apprentice to ensure they are still fit to remain a warrior, or ill-suited for Clan life, and Bearstar will act accordingly.
Any cat who is not a warrior is not permitted to retire to the elders' den, and may be removed from the Clan if they are incapable of living the life of a Clan cat.

Evergreenpaw is extremely social though,they have plans on forming nice relationships with their soon to be fellow Warriors instead of being an Asshole like they are as an apprentice. Appearance:: Evergreenpaw is A pale white,almost eggshell base coat with a faded black over coat with white dapples in their face and paws. History:: Evergreenpaw was born 10 moons before the flood,the chaos. Shortly after Their birth,Owlkit was born. Evergreenpaw (kit at the time) took over as a parent figure. With both of their parents not always being able to be to teach their kids able clan life,Evergreenkit took over and helped Owlkit get used too it.
Evergreenkit was forced to basically raise Owlkit in place of Their mother Willowstone,Evergreenkit still holds some resentment toward their mother for that,even after Willowstones death. Owl kit and Evergreenkit were later apprenticed,under the names Evergreenpaw and Owlpaw respectfully. Evergreenpaw still acted as a parent figure to Owlpaw,Forming a closer bond to their little sister.
When Evergreenpaw turned 10 moons that’s when everything changed…The water rushed from all directions,carrying debris with it;Large Debris. The few things Evergreenpaw remember was in flashes. Evergreenpaw still remembers trying to hold onto Owlpaw for dear life as they tried to drag the younger one from the flooding den,The only thing stopping them was a tree. Locking the den entrance shut,only a paw able to stick out of it. The paw that Evergreenpaw almost drowned trying to hold onto,one that lost all pressure as the bubbles stopped rising.
Evergreen paw was dragged out of the rising flood waters by their father;Eaglewing,The apprentice remained fixated on the den.The now crushed den,and the submerged paw that stuck out from it. Only being forced to move from their position of staring at the paw due to Bearstars orders and news that we’re moving.
Evergreenpaw was almost silent on that trip,Until the sickness killed so many…Including their parents. Eaglewing was the first of the pair to catch it,Evergreenpaw instantly knew something was up as the tomcat had a naturally good immune system,Something about this illness was off. Something they had never seen before. Then Willowstone caught it,with a matter of hours the couple was ripped apart by it,barley to even move on. Evergreenpaw refused to leave them behind though,Until they could no longer. Eaglewing passed away first,next was Willowstone;leaving Evergreen an orphan and with no remaining kin;with a dead sister and all.
Evergreenpaw kept on the 3 moon journey,Refusing to speak to anyone but their mentor,who passed shortly after. Evergreen paw was just losing people left and right now,They turned to Another form of coping,A very unhealthy one. Evergreenpaw managed to convince themself that Her family and friends weren’t truly dead,only lost and were never able to find the remaining cats.

+ Gorgedive is a optimistic, very extroverted tom. He enjoys playing and having fun, but he’s also quite responsible, and he knows when exactly to be serious. He tries his best to help others, and he’ll be loyal to HailClan until his dying breath. Though, due to recent events, his mood is a little more dour than usual.
= Gorgedive has a bit of a dry sense of humor at times, so it can often be hard to tell if he’s joking, which can lead to misunderstandings. Gorgedive likes for things to stay the same, and he doesn’t like it when things change in big ways, though he can adapt after a little while, give him a few moons and a lot of quiet time.
- Gorgedive is very persistent and stubborn, he will not give up on whatever he’s pursuing, and he’ll die on the hill he stands on. He is very responsible, but he’s not very organized, and he sometimes finds it hard to get to things right away. Gorgedive, when he was a kit and apprentice, was a highly active and cheerful presence in HailClan, he was always popping into new places and exploring, making all sorts of friends with any and everyone he met. Everyone who knew him regarded him rather well and spoke rather highly of him and his eagerness to befriend others.
When Gorgedive had just earned his Warrior name, he got to come to one of his first Gatherings (as Gatherings were sparse between the three clans), and he met a SquallClan warrior named Sleetflicker, who seemed to have something against him. The two instantly started up a rivalry, and every time they saw each other at the border, they’d end up fighting or merely exchanging insults if other cats were around.
Soon, though, the two began to tone down their hatred, and they realized they actually had a lot in common, in fact, they quickly became friends after the fire of their rivalry was expended.
Gorgedive and Sleetflicker began to meet up bi-moonly, and every time they met up they’d spend hours with one another, playing games, exchanging stories, or just enjoying one-another’s company. One day, Sleetflicker took Gorgedive a little ways beyond both territories and showed him a beautiful icy stream, there he asked Gorgedive to be his mate. Gorgedive was surprised by this proposition, but he said yes.
The pair really wanted kits of their own, and they tried so hard to have them, but after many moons of no kits, they began to give up hope. One day, though, Gorgedive came to Sleetflicker with exciting news! He was expecting Sleetflicker’s kits! The couple was overjoyed, they knew that the litter would most likely not be a big one, but just the fact that they’d have kits of their own was enough for them!
Soon, the day came, and Gorgedive and Sleetflicker’s kits were born. Two toms and one tiny she-cat. Gorgedive kept the two toms with him, but took the tiny she-kit to Sleetflicker for him to raise, saying that he would pretend the she-kit died in the night. The toms were named Sweetkit and Softkit, and the she-kit was named Briarkit by Sleetflicker with the help of the queen who was nursing her. Gorgedive claims to the clan that the kits’ father was a tom who’d agreed to giving him kits and nothing more, and he refused to disclose further information no matter how much poking or prodding the clan provides. Sleetflicker’s excuse is that he found Briarkit while out on a solitary hunt. Both clans buy the excuses and life goes on as normal.
When Bearstar comes to SquallClan to ask for help a few days later, though, Sleetflicker immediately feels the need to be there for his mate, and he slips out of camp shortly after the HailClan leader departs. After much consideration, Sleetflicker decides to leave Briarkit with Tansystep, her foster mother, as he knows that the journey may be too hard for such a small kitten.
Sleetflicker comes to where HailClan is residing in the wake of the flood and he and Gorgedive explain that they’ve been mates for a while, but it has never altered their sense of loyalty to their clans. Most of HailClan is surprised, especially when Sleetflicker announces his intentions to join HailClan to assist his mate and kits on the journey. Sleetflicker is allowed to join, and they depart shortly after.
For the first moon, Sleetflicker, Sweetkit, and Softkit are doing quite well, but as the journey wears on, Sleetflicker and Softkit begin to waver, and soon both pass away, Sleetflicker, then Softkit shortly after.
Gorgedive is heartbroken by both of their deaths, and he buries them together, with Sleetflicker cuddling Softkit. He then becomes extra protective of his remaining son, Sweetkit.
Sweetkit holds up for the majority of the journey, but two days before they reach the new territory, Sweetkit dies of an unknown sickness that ravages his body in less than twenty-four short hours. He was there, and then he wasn’t.
Most of the remaining cats suggested he should find a nice spot to bury the kit and move along, that it was no use carrying a dead kit for however longer they would need to be walking, but Gorgedive refused to listen to them, insisting that he wouldn’t bury Sweetkit until they found a new home, because he didn’t want Sweetkit to be alone in an unfamiliar place without any family near.
When they reached the new territory, the first thing Gorgedive did was find a nice, secluded place for him to bury his son. He buried Sweetkit beneath a beautiful maple tree that was already beginning to change colors a little bit. He scratched three claw marks into the bark, one for each of his fallen family.
When Gorgedive dies, he wants to be buried right next to his son.
Sometimes, when he dreams, he dreams of his only living child, Briarkit. He dreams of her growing up without him, not knowing who he, Sweetkit, Softkit, and Sleetflicker were, not knowing she has a family who loved her so so very much. He dreams of her, and he just prays that she lives a happy, long, beautiful life, even though he doesn’t even know her name. Mention Me:: @dino.

Personality
Sheepfur is a patient & sociable cat. Sheepfur is also quite friendly and comforting when its needed. Although after the journey Sheepfur seemed to more absentminded for good reason. In private Sheepfur is quite emotional but as I said only in private. He doesn't want to bring down the Clan more then it already is.
Appearance
Sheepfrost is a selkirk rex mix with curly black fur with a white splotch on their back. Sheepfur has a white spot that starts at the top of their nose and ends at their forehead. Snow also has a white dipped tail; Green eyes
History
Sheepfur was a proud warrior of Hailclan and adored being apart of it. Sheepfur even found love and gave birth to a kit. When the Clan had been forced out his kit was just barely a apprentice. Sheepfur believed and believed snow and it's family would make it through the tough journey and although for the first moon everything seemed fine for Sheepfur and his family. That was until snows love got a sickness, one that Sheepfur was sure he never seen before. Sheepfur stayed by its loves side before they were taken into the arms of whatever took them away from Sheepfur and his child.
Before snows love had passed on Sheepfur promised to keep their child safe and sound. Sheepfur kept that promise for the remainer of the journey. Once they had gotten to the forest Sheepfur realized that their child was no where to be found. Sheepfur frantically searched through the moving Clan with no hope. Sheepfur felt snows stomach drop knowing something happened.. something bad.
Sheepfur left the group to find their child and bring them back but when snow did.. He wasn't greeted with a pleasant sight. The new dangers had taken its child from him just like the sickness took snows love. Sheepfur spent a big digging into the ground hurting his paws in the process before placing their child in the newly dug grave and covered it. Sheepfur couldn't stay long of course and soon joined the clan once again. Sheepfur had decided that once they reached their new home he would properly bury snows child.
Personality::
Moonwolf is a very open and loving cat, but has a tongue sharp as a blade. While she doesn't use her wit or sarcasm much, if you truly deserve it, they will let it loose. But that's saved for special cases. Typically, Moonwolf finds themself gazing at the sky, because when they were a kit they would look up and make made up prophecies from the stars and clouds, and still does that for fun to this day, because it's a habit. They're kind of a neat-freak though, and can often be found organizing something or even cleaning up the camp, just because they feel like it needs to be done.
Appearance::
small, scrawny silver tabby cat with long, fluffy thick fur and darker gray speckles. Her ears are floppy and a solid dark gray and her eyes are a vibrant orange and oval shaped with a darker outline. She has a stub for a tail, and is polydactyl (allegiance desc- small silver spotted tabby polydactyl cat with bright orange eyes)
History::
At the beginning of the journey, Moonwolf was in a very toxic relationship with a tomcat named Tallpeak. He was emotionally abusive towards her, but her family frowned upon her romantic preference, so she was pressured by him and her parents to have kittens with this tomcat, but the kits were newborn when the evacuation started and died a few days into the journey, along with her parents. Tallpeak died of dehydration a few days before Lynxfreeze passed, and Moonwolf was left with virtually no one. But they still pressed on, and eventually became one of the surviving members of the Clan that made it to their new home.

Elkgaze is a very kind and even-tempered molly, they are always have an open ear for those who need it, they are also incredibly calm and sociable. They are highly observant, especially of those of others emotions. They are insecure in their abilities, feeling that sometimes that someone else could probably take their place, and because of this they can sometimes become a workaholic as they tried to work hard everyday to get better. |Appearance|
Elkgaze is a mix of multiple cats but the most prominent is Norwegian Forest Cat. They are a deep brown tabby with some light tan/brown on the belly and tail tip. They have dark green eyes, with a slight tinge of amber near the pupil. They are also rather tall and are stronger than they look. |History|
Elkgaze when they first started to travel away from their old home they were horrified. Truly they had so many memories tied to their old home so to be forced to leave them was hard. Though they stayed strong for their leader and others and made sure to support everyone they could while traveling. They feared the new territory, with it being so warm compared to their old home they had feared that many lives would be lost. They pushed on, mourning silently for those lost, and became one of the few survivors left of the clan.

Before the loss: A cheery and loud apprentice, his boisterous nature was always the greatest of their many "hyping" qualities around their friends. Always the jokester, always the life of the party, and always trying to compete with his fellow apprentices. They hated losing and getting things wrong when they couldn't complete them on the first try.
After the loss: Sullen and lethargic, the cat barely finds the energy to get out of bed to train. His usual demeanor has shifted but they still try to be the same happy tom around their friends. He hates himself for what happened, but he knows deep down it isn't their fault. They know she was sick before the trek. Climate change just made it worse. But he still irrationally blames himself and holds themself back because of it. Appearance

Before the trip, he was just an average and fairly new apprentice. He always tried to cheer the Clan up and strived to be a light in the dark times pressing down on the Clan. Their friends and mother encouraged him throughout it. Then his mother started having trouble breathing and keeping pace around the time just after the rogue incident. They stayed up at night to watch her, eventually finding out she'd been sick before they had even left. Eventually, it got so bad he had to stay behind with his mentor at one of the resting places so they could sit with his mother while she slipped away. It was painful almost physically to them. He hated all of it. When she took her last rattling breath, she shed a single tear and told him that she was proud of him, that she'd watch them. His descent into the dark spiral that is now his life was gradual at first and then it was a nosedive into the abyss. They still have trouble sleeping.
