"Ive lasted this long before i was a medicine cat and i will after. I am the only thread riverclan and shadowclan had left because i was training juniperpaw, and fallenstar dare wouldnt harm a medicine cats clan if i was their only source of healing knowledge. I know what it means to keep the clans together because ive trains half of the damn forest by now." they had helped in cricketpaws training when they were together, and juniperpaws, along with shinefangs. could no one pick up the slack? it seemed sometimes they were in multiple places at once. and they were growing tired. they were old by any means, but they wanted to settle down. daydream too had used to be a warrior. they knew how clan structure worked. they would fight purely for pride and to hold honor, while the medicine cats would be left to pick up the pieces. they didnt need to be told what they already knew. "I am going to be honest. I am numb to the pain of loss and have suffered it many times. but this..juniperpaw was the last thing i had connected me to riverclan, a place i once felt at home," which explained why they had been walking through the territory so confidently,"so anything you say is going in one ear and out the other because im grieving, so if i hear one more god damn time that i need to eat, or that i should take care or myself-" this was the finale straw. they just..needed a breather. they needed soem time. any logical advice heatherfur wa giving them wasnt being retained at all as their logical side was growing dimmer and dimmer. normally they were unempathetic, cold even. but they had let cats into their heart and soften it, and its because of that, that they feel so hurt. so alone. so theyll be dammed if that let another cat, heatherfur, in.
Heatherfur sat quietly as Daydream continued to speak. It was clear for her to see the anguish they had faced in such a short period of time. All the death and despair of those closest to them either dying to disappearing without a trace. The pain was so clearly written all over their appearance, and she had expected them to at least accept the prey, but it sat there, untouched. Slowly, the ears on Heatherfur's head began to flatten, and she was about getting fed up this Daydream's refusal for any help. She would never hurt them physically, but if they wanted to be rude and talk back, then two could play at that game. The soft fur on the back of her neck began to stand a bit, and the molly had to grit her teeth in order to hold her tongue as Daydream spoke. Perhaps they got away with talking to others like this, but Heatherfur wouldn't allow it. Grieving or not, they needed to understand that not all cats that sought to help them wouldn't just vanish. Especially Heatherfur - who had no where else to go but stay in RiverClan. Plus, even if she tried to leave, she was sure StarClan would stop that from happening. After all, they had led her here in the first place. "I understand you're grieving, and I know the darkness you must be facing with Juniperpaw now disappearing," Heatherfur spoke slowly, locking her pale green eyes with Daydream's own, her gaze not wavering. "At some point though, you need to learn to let go and realize that you should probably hold onto the cats who are still here, trying to help you. I'm sure the cats who have passed away who were trying to help would would not want to see you join them because you refused to do the one thing they asked you to while they were alive." It wasn't that Heatherfur was upset with Daydream. It was more like she was talking to her younger self. Snap out of it! she thought, as her eyes glazed over. In front of her was no longer Daydream. Instead it was her younger self, shuddering with pain in a desolate corner of WindClan's camp. Anger stabbed at her and the medicine cat turned away, breaking her eye contact with Daydream. Everything came back, and after a brief moment the tabby regained her composure. "I have to keep looking for herbs and get back to healing my Clan. You're welcome to go to Fallenstar and ask to look for Juniperpaw. He might send out a patrol if it comes from you," Heatherfur mewed, though her tone was clipped. Daydream seemed to bring out a side of her that was different - one that wanted to change the past, change it so that they didn't feel so alone, like she had as an apprentice. She looked back up at them, masking the painful memory with a blank stare as she watched them. She wouldn't escort them out if they didn't want to leave, nor would she alert the Clan to their prescense. In fact, she felt as though she needed a breather too - too many painful memories were bubbling to the surface the more she learned about the ShadowClan medicine cat's pain.

She sighed and held her breath, dipping her head into the water. She pulled it out and shook it off, looking at a tabby tom near her. She realized she probably looked ridiculous with her wet head and dry body, but she didn't particularly care. It wasn't like any cat cared, they would ignore her anyway, right. But this tom was actually trying to talk to her... it was unexpected. "Oh, hello. No, not at all," she sniffed, feeling very self-conscious.

Fearing embarrassing herself with her self-deemed 'dirty pelt', she slipped into the river and swam closer to the tom. "Just fishing, that's all," she said, trying to hide the fact that she was embarrassed. The truth was that she hated fishing, the thought of picking up a live, wiggling creature in her mouth was nauseating. She didn't know where they had been! Actually, she did, but that was almost worse. "How are you..." she started, trying to remember his name frantically. "Uh... Black....Fall?" she finished, saying his name like a question. It bothered her that everyone in camp seemed to know her entire life story and reputation, but she didn't even know their name. Lots of things bothered her, which caused her to curse her OCD, but as she looked at Blackfall, one thing bothered her most of all at the moment.

"Y-your eye," she stammered, her left eye suddenly hurting. She didn't like that it was asymmetrical... one eye was different than the other, though it didn't bother her as much as she thought it would. Maybe it was the fact that he didn't immediately recoil when he caught sight of her. She breathed in deeply, swimming to shore and climbing out, happy that her pelt felt clean and fresh. Shinepelt tilted her head, leaning forward to look at Blackfall. "What happened to it?" she inquired, longing to be able to make his blind eye look like the other one, but she tried to surpress her urge to say that it displeased her. After all, she was sure that others were 'displeased' by thing about her that she couldn't control, so she kept her mouth shut.
blackfall’s expression remained placid, the exception being a slight twitch of his whiskers at shinepelt after she plunged her head into the waters. he felt a twinge as he realized he couldn’t hold back a glint of amusement in his eye. it wasn’t like him to worry himself too much about his streak of insensitivity, but this time he did. he didn’t quite understand her peculiar habits, but he also knew she couldn’t help it.

his amusement disappeared as quickly as it appeared and was replaced by sympathy. something he didn’t often experience.

the tom resumed a crouching position next to the river, keeping his eye trained not on any passing fish, but on the flowing movement of the algae. he had given up on catching fish; he just didn’t know if too much attention would make shinepelt nervous. as she began to speak again, his gaze flitted up from the river.

“oh, I’m doing alright,” he replied. a moment of silence passed before a crooked smile slightly lit up his usually somber face. “and yes, my name is blackfall.”

his smile began to wane as he noticed her gaze suddenly focus on his bad eye. he remained still, keeping up his pretense of fishing as she drew closer. but he knew he couldn’t hide his growing discomfort, whether it was a subconscious twitch of his tail or a slight bristle along his nape.

but as soon as she asked her question, his muscles that he didn’t realize were tensed immediately relaxed. he still felt scrutinized, but no cat ever asked him what happened. they looked too scared, as if he would turn around and claw them if they did. he appreciated her asking him about it instead of just staring with a sickening sense of sympathy and fear like most others.

“oh this?” blackfall winked his right eye shut, fixing her lightheartedly with the blank milky stare of his left.

“I’d like to say it’s a battle wound to be proud of, but a tree collapsed while I was out with a border patrol and a splinter as big as a squirrel caught it.”

he paused, suddenly looking down at his paws. “just a case of bad luck really,” he muttered with a shrug.

The small kit stumbled over a twig looking around for her mother. The grasses were taller here than they had been. Birds chirped in the trees nearby and she could hear the sound of water nearby. Her belly growled with hunger, she hadn't seen her mother for several days. She knew if she didn't find food she would die. A breeze carried a scent in it. 'Cat!' the kit thought happily, then paused. 'What if they're mean?' she wondered before shrugging her shoulders following the scent her tail waving in the air. "Momma!" she called out listening for a reply, but to no avail. She froze as she hear a sound. Her brown speckled fur fluffed out in fear as she heard a cat coming closer. She saw the outline of a cat coming through the reeds.

The kit shrunk back trying to blend into the grass, but her white fur stuck out like snow. She could barely make our the cat who was coming closer. 'Maybe they're friendly?' She hoped, trying to sound positive.

Shinepelt's nose twitched as she looked at Blackfall, worried that he was going to mock her for her strange habits, but no biting remark came. She relaxed slightly, her mood brightening when she realized this meant that not everyone in camp hated her... or at least there were some cats who could tolerate her. Her one dream was to get rid of her useless fear of germs and find a friend, and who knows? Maybe she even longer for true love, not that she was ever going to admit that.

She watched curiously as Blackfall's face shifted, obviously not comfortable about the topic for his eye, or rather, he had seemed to expect a different response from Shinepelt and had been bracing for it. She knew how that went and couldn't help but sympathize not only because of his eye, but his reaction to her gazing at it. "Oh," she said awkwardly. "Well we all make mistakes that are often foolish." Shinepelt couldn't help but think she had made more than her share of stupid mistakes, but none of them had resulted in permanent physical injury. Her scrapes and cuts had healed, but her emotional state was very fragile at the moment. When he described the cause of his injury, she couldn't help but cringe. The thought of something as dirty as a tree branch going into something as sensitive as an eye? Her stomach flipped, but she tried to hide the queer expression on her face. "I'm surprised it wasn't infected... " the molly said in shock. When she realized that sounded rude, she added, "that's good, though! Wouldn't want an infection." She didn't know whether she was talking about herself or Blackfall in that instance, but she supposed it didn't matter, as long as she sounded like she was being kind.

The kit looked up from the ground seeing a gray tabby tom standing over her, eyes narrowed slightly for a brief moment at the fact that she had run straight into him. Getting back on her paws she shook her pale brown and white fur, bristling in surprise and slight embarrassment at meeting a new cat. Her eyes wide she stammered," I don't know w-where my mom is. I haven't seen her in days. Would you take me back to camp?" Hope glittered in her bright blue eyes as she looked up at him, anxiously shuffling her paws. While she waited for an answer she thought about the stories her mother used to tell her, when she was very young, about the fighting cats who liver in the forest. "Are you a fighting cat?" she asked quietly, before the tom could answer.

Silverfeather was walking through the territory with her sister. She was lost in thoughts, thinking about whether she should tell Nightsong or not. “Nightsong...I have to tell you something..that’s why I invited you out here.” She stopped and turned to her sister.

"Is it a confession?" Nightsong whispered smugly, "I don't feel that way towards you or towards that gender." She stopped and stared at her sister in the eyes. She faked a gasp. "Or have you had a rendezvous with Fallenstar? A secret affair with Heatherfur? Tell me!" @Tazzy
