Kyra sat in the entrance to her den. It was covered with a layer of bracken and rose bushes, but the thorns had been removed by the doctor a while ago. The rock entrance rose to about a mouse-length above the wolf's head. Lichen hung from it about three mouse-lengths down. Kyra snorted as a piece of lichen settled on her face. Her pale powder-blue eyes were narrowed against the glare of the sun. She was much better accustomed to dark forests and caves. She spent most of her time sitting in her den, sorting out healing materials. Other than that, she was off hunting in the fields, trying her luck at the abundance of prey that lived there.
She wrapped her longer-than-average tail around her paws. Kyra's thick fur was irritating, especially in the summer when it was scorching and when it rained, when it took forever for her pelt to dry. Not to mention the fact that her fur was black, which trapped heat. Kyra had to admit that it was becoming a problem living in the open fields. She sometimes made trips to the stream nearby to soak and try to escape the heat. It worked most days, but then she would have to wait a long time for her fur to dry.
The wolf sighed wearily and shuffled her paws in the dirt, causing a cloud of dust to rise. Kyra hadn't been getting nearly enough sleep lately, and when she did it was disturbed with worrying dreams. She had taken something to help with the nightmares. It had worked until her body had began rejecting it and causing her to throw up every time she tried to take it. So she just learned to deal with the minimal amount of sleep she wad getting.

Jezza curled up tighter in her nest. Her den, overhanging rock resting next to a hill, was perfect cover for the lioness. She sighed as her perfect dream of running through the open grass continued. It was so perfect, so peaceful, not a single bird was chirping... all was, oh so amazing. Then, a sharp voice cut into her dream, a octave short of a tenor. "My Queen! My Queen! Jezzabelle! Queen Jezzabelle!" The sleeping lioness swatted at who ever was ruining her sleep as she sat up. opening her blue eyes, she saw a blurry white shape. Blinking again, she saw The head Knight, Windvoice, sitting at the entrance to her den, rubbing his nose. "Windvoice? Sky and Stones, I'm so sorry! I didn't realize it was you!" Jezza apologized as quickly as she could. Windvoice dipped his head, a near bow, if you could call it that. "It's quite alright my Queen, just a small bump," Windvoice, you can stop calling me 'Your Queen', It's fine really. Jezza sighed. Windvoice was always so formal with her, it was like he thought she would fly into a rage if he wasn't! "Windvoice, you can call me Jezza, it's fine, really. I don't mind it, in fact, it would make me happy to have you call me that!" Jezza laughed. Windvoice's face was worth it."Oh, really? Sorry Jezza, it's just since..." He trickled off, as if telling her was the hardest thing to do. She placed a paw on his mouth to shush him. "Windvoice, as your Queen and friend, I ask you to please be quiet!" Windvoice nodded, and she released him. "Now, what is it that you woke me up for?" Jezza asked. "I wanted to see if you wished to walk with me while I go on my little 'solo patrol' I do it every morning," Windvoice offered. "How sweet, I will go with you!" Jezza smiled.
The lioness and wolf walked side by side, with Windvoice pointing out who's home was who's and a few other minor details. Jezza looked around, it had been so long since she had taken a walk in her homeland, and she just hoped she would see a few of those who lived there, besides Crazy Windvoice.

( Windvoice is formal with her, and she asks those who talk to her to just call her 'Jezza' she hates formalites... Windvoice is crazy.
