Whats does it mean to go on Hiatus?

ive seen the term used everywhere but never knew what it meant, can someone explain?

Essentially it means to go on a break! Generally if someone mentions they are going on hiatus (on here), they are referring to taking a break from posting or from the site as a whole for a while! @Wally Darling~
