Default Re: WindClan Nursery

Gorsebird stirred momentarily from her nap. She blinked open her amber eyes and gazed down fondly at her kits. By now she had recovered for the most part from the exhausting experience. Now as she looked down at her five gorgeous kits, she knew that all the pain and suffering she had just gone through, was worth it. While she was up, a thought occurred to her. Names. They needed names. She shifted a little, trying not to disturb the small suckling kits. She mused the thought for a moment. They had to be special. They had to be charming! Gorsebird was a little overwhelmed even with the knowledge that she had gone through this process three times already, and two of those times she hadn't even had any help from a mate but, she thought to herself those times you only had one or two kits this time you have five! Gorsebird decided then to just wing it hoping that the kit names she choose wouldn't be complete crow-food. With a look and quick sniff at her eldest kit, a long furred brown tabby, she caught a subtle scent of chestnuts and with a light chuckle she licked the tom-kit on the head, "You my sweet will be Chestnutkit~" Gorsebird cooed, caught in the maternal bliss of the whole occasion, "You're going to be a strong one I can just tell!" She chirped confidence clear in her tone as she continued to fawn other her firstborn before switch her attention to her second born and somehow smallest kit, "You will be Tinykit." She then mewed giving Tinykit a rough and short lick on the head and not putting much thought into the small tom's name considering in the days to come he would perhaps be the first kit to die due to his obvious physical weakness. Now onto the third kit she thought the naming process already becoming a chore as she let out a yawn before eyeing back down at the middle kit a grey tom with the lightest hint of tabby markings, "How about Breezekit for you love~" She muttered thinking about her father Buzzardbreeze and deeming it was about time to name a kit after him despite the fact that she resented her 'daddy dearest' he had at least been a good and loyal warrior which was better than half of the scum present in WindClan today. Gorsebird then quickly nosed Breezekit before switching attention then to the fourth and last tom of the litter, "Hmm... how about Tempestkit? You do look a good bit like your father." She rumbled swiftly naming the tom with once again not much thought before her sight landed on the fifth and only she-cat of the litter, "Dawnkit. Your name is Dawnkit." She whispered thinking of when the kittens had been born and deciding that was an adequate name for the she-kit. Letting out another yawn she curled her tail around them. It was done they were named yippee she resolved before letting out a groan and thinking of hard the next six moons would be.

He sighed to himself, knowing he’d have to apologize to the cat, then she would probably start talking to him. Scolding him most likely.
“Sorry for stepping on your tail...” He mumbled, his head lowering in shame. Goosegrumble truly did feel bad. He’d had his tail stepped on a number of times. He knew how hard it could hurt if they got it in the right spot. But Goosegrumble wasn’t exactly one to know how to properly express emotions. Any one other than grouchy that is.
Gorsewing gritted her teeth against the throbbing of her tail, trying not to lash it from side to side. “It’s fine,” she ground out, hissing out a breath through her teeth. She opened her eyes to look down at the tom, who, like most other cats, was shorter than her. Hanging his head, he looked as if he was expecting a scolding. The large she-cat nearly snorted. “You look more hurt than I do,” she commented softly, not wanting to wake the others in the den.

The long windswept grass covered the well known moor leaving cover and beauty to any WindClanner.
A creamy ginger molly stood on a high point on the moor her lean body covered in thick medium length fur. The molly's muzzle was slightly lifted framing in all the secants of the more. Buttercupbreeze, a mouthful of a name for some, was out on a hunt. The deputy decided to go herself just because she realized she forgot to plan herself into the patrols. A rookie mistake for a Deputy but Buttercup had only been Deputy for a little over a moon tops. She was getting used to organizing patrols, hunting and border patrols and have cats ask her questions. Honesty it was strange going from a young warrior with only an apprentice to train and worry about to be the deputy of WindClan.

The wind wiped the molly's face and played with her whiskers. Her thin yet strong legs pushed through the long grass she'd already caught a hare and had it buried not far away but a single hare wasn't much for a hungry Clan. Newleaf was almost upon them witch meant more kits would be born and that meant they needed to keep the prey pile well stocked. With the chilly weather and light rain fall that has been going on all sunrise there could bring in a storm.

A chill ran though the molly as a drop of cold water landed on her nose from the grass she'd pushes through. Shaking out her fur she fluffed it a bit to keep the chill of the wind from bothering her as much. I thought I smelled rabbit. She thought opening her mouth to try and catch the secants again. Dampness and mud was a strong secant here but amongst it she caught the secant of rabbit. Just like I thought. The molly had also smelled a strong secant of WindClan but guessed that a Clanmate had just passed or was hunting near by.
Lowering herself she crept though the grass as quietly as she could, her puffy tail held just above the ground. The wind was blowing into her face which varied that she was upwind of the rabbit. As a swish of gras was moved from her view she caught sight of the rabbit, almost completely blinding into the area around it. Scanning around it she looked for a borrow but didn't spot one. It looks like it stayed from its borrow. She noted. Dragging in a breath she came a little closer till her cover was almost gone.
Know or never Buttercup. The molly told herself. Pushing off the ground with her powerful hind legs the deputy lunched into the air. This alerted the rabbit making it run, scampering as fast as its legs would carry it.
Pushing through the slippery mud and damp grass Buttercupbreeze gave chance. Mud splashed her legs and underbelly but she didn't seam to notice as she speed past Marbledtongue, which she didn't know was there in pursuit of the rabbit.
As the rabbit got caught in a slippery slope the molly pounced digging her claws in the flesh of the catch. Though as she bent to nip it's neck she lost her footing and slipped down the slope dragging the rabbit through the mud with her. Kicking it tried to get away but the mud coved deputy jerked it and snapped it's spine, killing it.
When the creamy ginger molly started to stand up she almost slipped again but she caught herself this time. It was a close one.
Looking over herself Buttercup noticed how dirty she got.
"Geez I'm a mess." She meowed out loud. Mud cracked her legs and underbelly making her fur spiky in spots and flat in others her back and face was spattered with specks of it. This made her scrunch her nose at the thought of cleaning it. She hated the taste of mud but seeing how she looked made her purr in amusement. I can wash in the stream if I get desperate. The molly thought as she picked up her catch. It was covered in mud as well. And the rabbit. She added still purring.

As she turned to head to the stream she spotted the bangle tabby for the first time. Had he been there the whole time? Feeling a bit embarrassed that she hadn't noticed the tom she sat down her catch.
"Hello." She meowed in greeting.
Scraping through her mind she tried to place a name on the tom. Come on he's your Clanmates your suppose to remember these things. She told herself flicking mud from her ear. It was normal for her to sometimes go completely blank on what to say when she was caught of guard and figuring out you'd just butted in on a Clanmates hunt took her aback. Then his name dawned on her. This tom was Marbledtongue, she didn't know him that well. Maybe she could. If she didn't agitate him by stealing his catch.

Just as marbledtongue was about to leap out after the rabbit he heard the thudding of paws than suddenly a blurr sped past him, blowing a gist of air in his face causing him to step back in shock and shake his head a bit. He wrinkled his nose but popped his head up and out of the stalks of grass to see a form speeding past, hard on the rabbits heels. The lanky Tom stood and just watching for a moment until on the pursuit they suddenly grappled onto the rabbit and somehow slipped down the hill along with it.
Marbledtongue staggered and stepped forward to go help but froze mid step, his one paw left hanging in the air for a moment. He pursed his lips together and knit his eyebrows thoughtfully. For a moment they continued to slide down the hillside until they came to a stop, a momentary struggle, and finally the rabbit drew it's final breath. Marbledtongue was amused with this, he hadn't seen anyone else with such dedication to allow such events as sliding down the muddied hill stop them from getting the catch in the end.
His tail lashed in a,sure rn as she stood, looking proud with the filthy catch hanging out of her jaws. He had instantly known who it was, buttercupbreeze. The new deputy if he was correct in remembering. The Bengal Tom only watched for a few moments when she finally noticed him standing in and around the tall stalks of grass. The Tom blinked a few times.
He managed to crack a gentle smile as she looked at him, embarrassed, but still looking at him nonetheless. He offered a polite smile and dipped his head.
"Impressive, I don't see lots of cats willing to devote to such a dirty catch" he responded sitting down and sweeping his
Tongue around his jaws with a deep yawn following. He swept his tail along the ground kicking up a swell of dust and picking up a few burrs as it danced among the stalks of grass. He blinked his hazel eyes a few times than dipped his head.

It had been some time since the birth, though it's not like he was able to tell just how long it's been. All he knew was that this place was much colder than the one he had been in before, and definitely more open judging by how his whiskers didn't brush against anything, and the familiar shapes beside him appeared able to move away if they so pleased, although very slowly; not that he was any quicker thanks to his currently weak muscles.

There was a gentle nudge at his side, stirring the young tom away from his thoughts as he raised his head slightly, tiny jaws parted as if he were silently mewling at the distraction, but instead he would shut his mouth and seem to take in the comforting scent of milk and his mother. Breezekit wasn't often vocal, though sometimes he would make a complaint when a sibling leaned on him too much, or even just when he was hungry and couldn't find his way around.

A tiny mrrow slipped past the gray tabby's maw as he seemed to take his time with trying to push himself more to his feet, though he barely managed to get his currently full belly off the ground. It was hard to describe the urge to see what's going on around him, but it was most certainly sudden; this was a strange, new place after all, and the voice above him which spoke so softly made him want to better source the she-cat who had cared for him and his siblings and offered warmth and food ever since they were born.

It took him a few attempts to figure out how exactly eyes worked; the sudden, dim lighting that met his currently blue hues didn't help his case at first either, making him immediately close them again and relax once more. Once he was calm again, he would try his second attempt, managing a partial squint, but it was far too difficult to see anything at the moment. A third time would do it, he figured; and... got it!

... He wasn't expecting everything to look so big compared to him, though. The young tom raised his head, awkwardly kicking out his slightly useless paws to scoot himself backwards a bit so he could better get a look at the tabby-tortoiseshell before him. Breezekit associated the scent with the image before him, and although his squinted eyes made him look almost criticizing, he was actually feeling rather happy at this new sense of his. The usually quiet tom's eyes would slowly open up more, as his front legs kept his upper body raised, while his thin tail stuck out straight behind him and his hind legs awkwardly stilled in a position that wouldn't allow him to slip somehow and return to his prone form on the bedding of the nest. Honestly, he was just... awestruck right now, and borderline speechless. He was used to saying simple things like, 'food, and 'mom,' though he bet that even if he had a greater vocabulary, he'd still be too stunned to talk. So, instead, he would gaze up at the she-cat and take in her features, and he would even look at his siblings and try to figure out which one was who, now that Gorsebird had named them.

Gorsebird let out a non-committal sound not quite tired enough for a nap to be an option and resolving instead to continue to fawn and dote over her little kittens. The kitting had been hard and incredibly early to the point where it had been a shock that all of them had survived the night, not to say of course that they were completely out of the woods. For one they all had weak little lungs and always seemed to be needing to suckle despite the fact that she was producing were than enough milk! Well at least they were nursing she chided to herself knowing that some premature newborns outright refused and then just faded away.

Pushing the thought from her mind Gorsebird refocused her attention on the kits. Letting out a soft purr she gave Chestnutkit and Tinykit soft nuzzles before her eyes landed on Breezekit seeing the little kitten trying to lift himself up making her smile, "Ambitious one aren't you my little bird?" She cooed blissfully, happy to see despite there prematureness one of her kittens still managed to be a shwerd little thing. Not that she expected any less.

Then seeing Breezekit flutter his eyes made her even more excited as she made a loud chirp and gave her middle son an encouraging lick on the forehead beaming widely at him, "Come on Breezy open your eyes for Mommy! Mommy want's to see your handsome blue eyes~" Gorsebird bubbled pride blossoming through her chest as Breezekit finally open his eyes revealing soft kitten blue hues, "Daddy will be so impressed with his sweetling! And so will all the other queens and they'll be so jealous that my little Breezy opened his eyes at two days old! And you'll be leader and no! You'll be deputy one day and Chestnutkit will be leader and Tinykit can be medicine cat and Tempestkit and Dawnkit... can be loyal warriors!" Gorsebird rambled already having her kittens' futures planned out in her mind as she began to fawn all over the wide-eyed little grey kitten in front of her.

@Fuzzyfeline

Stormbreeze strolled out onto the training moor, ignoring the cold breeze he had since grown accustomed to. He settled into a comfortable crouch, stifling a yawn while he waited for Silentpaw. He had gone on an early walk, one of his own little patrols and decided to spare his apprentice the pre-daybreak wake up, instructing her to meet him in the moor at sunup. However his own lack of sleep was starting to weigh him down, and he quickly straightened up and shook his pelt. A half-asleep mentor was as much use as a dead fox.

The tall male glanced around as other cats walked past him to socialize in the clearing with their loved ones. He smiled at the sight and joined the small crowd of cats that were starting their morning routines without any further disruptions. Making his way over to the freshkill pile, Sandpatch dipped his head as a silent greeting to anyone who he went by and even uttered a softened ‘Good morning!’ to a few of them, but he was much too tired to be his usual energetic self - not until he had a healthy meal to get the blood flowing in his veins. His mother always told him to never skip out on a meal, otherwise he wouldn’t grow strong and be able to defend himself or his clanmates when the time came. May Starclan rest her soul. The brown-and-tan-furred feline quietly picked up a rather plump rabbit in his jaws and went over to a comfortable, open spot on the edge of the clearing with his tail waving back and forth behind him as he laid down on the cooled loose dirt. Sandpatch could only hope that luck was in his favor on his peaceful day, hoping no ill-fated drama would come his way.

Nimblewhisker let out a little mrrow as he left the warriors den giving his head a quick shake in an effort to banish any tiredness. He would be lying if he said he wasn't happy. How could he not be? His mother had kitted the previous night which meant- four new brothers and a sister! And in light of his other sibling's death, it was nice to have a little joy in his family once again. Nimblewhisker then briefly thought of visiting but swiftly decided against for fear of stirring up trouble with Gorsebird or listening to her badgering him or in her words 'her' to settle down and get pregnant already while he was still young. Nimblewhisker then was meant with a soft rumble of his stomach meaning that in his mind at least a breakfast of some sorts was in order. With a kind of gracefulness, he approached the fresh kill pile expecting the standard rabbits and mice and was sincerely shocked to see... a goldfinch? With the cold season slowly leaving this area of the forest, Sandpatch always found this time of the year to be the most peaceful and relaxing, with the blooming of flowers to the warm rain showers and beautiful chirping of birds - it was, to him, the time where he could relax and not have to worry about the stress of Leafbare or the rush of Leaffall. He did hope that his usual spot where he would watch the flowers was still okay and had survived the cold and snow altogether, but he would worry about that after a good meal. The tall male bit into the plump rabbit between his paws and munched contently on the fresh, warm meat - it must’ve been a recent catch. Luck sure did seem on his side this morning. It did, however, catch his eye when another feline walked over to him - an unfamiliar face that he had yet to have the pleasure of meeting, it seemed. They seemed friendly though to an extent as the cat laid down beside him to enjoy their own breakfast, which looked to be a goldfinch. It was a beautiful bird and a rare catch indeed. “Good morning.” Sandpatch greeted the other Windclan warrior with a polite smile as he licked the blood off his muzzle from the rabbit, “Such a beautiful morning out today, isn’t it? Now that the cold days are slowly turning into the warm ones of Newleaf.” A rumbling purr came from him at the mere thought as his tail curled against his side. He was pleased to start this season off right.

[ Nothing wrong with a reference now and then, heh ]

(Sorry for the absurdly long post!)

The small kit weakly suckled, her tiny eyes shut, she could hear noises and her siblings moving. She mewed softly for no particular reason when her mother shifted, having to move back over to her mother. She could hear her Mother begin to speak, such a soft delicate voice. She heard every name, yet hardly understood what she was talking about.

All these scents entered her nose through every breath, she was used to the smell of her mother and father and her siblings. She blindly scooted herself towards the scent of the sweet milk that she loved. Suddenly the kit decided she was full, she heard her mother begin rambling over her brother and decided that she didn't need to do much yet. She was tired and didn't feel like moving. So she laid on her side and slowly snuggled into her mother's warm pelt. She wanted to open her eyes too, but let her brother take the fame. Plus, she was still new to the world, so she wanted to blindly explore for a bit.

Gorsebird continued to dote on Breezekit for only a moment longer before deciding to give her two younger kits a little attention giving Tempestkit a little lick as he softly suckled and let out little mews and mrrows every once in a while being one of her vocal kittens and nosing her youngest and only daughter of the litter, "How's Mama's little Sunflower doing? Pretty as a pool I see~" She cooed noticing Dawnkit was the only kitten of the litter that looked like her except Chestnutkit perhaps, "One day you'll have all the tom-cat swoon just like I did my perfect little flower~" Gorsebird chirped deciding that now was a fine time to groom her kittens and make sure they didn't retain any muck that might have gotten on there little pelts throughout the day.

Ever so delicately she then picked up Dawnkit beginning to clean the tiny she-kits pelt wanting all her kittens to look perfect if Stormglare or any other cat happened to visit, "Daddy will think you're the cutest thing Dawnkit and so will any other cat who sees your beautiful torbie fur!" She assured cherishing how the she-kit was like a copy of her in the looks department, "I love you my sunshine~"

(Heads up that Gorsebird's whole attitude will change the moment she finds out something's wrong with Dawnkit's eyes)
