Hawthorn was bored, the orphanage didn't let him do anything. No running, no creativity, no actually good food! He was sick and tired of it, sick and tired. Come get some lunch you maggots! The cook hollered at all the kids, banging a pan. "Yeah, yeah. Coming." Hawthorn replied sarcastically, walking over. He then grabbed a paper plate and got in line, a bowl of slop was placed on top of it and he sighed. For a second he imagined a world where he didn't live in an orphanage, instead he would live somewhere with his friends, with Spooky.

Poison was messing around with their stuffed dragon when the cook hollowed in his little code for the kids to go get lunch. They sighed and went over with the others and got the plate of nothing but garbage. Poison took their plate and walked over to an empty table and sat down, forcing themself to eat.

Ciara sighed when she heard the cook. She was rely good at hiding her weapons. Her katana strapped to her back with her knives, and her karambits strapped to her skirt belt, Ciara was known as the Assassin in the orphanage she was forced to live in, when she was perfectly capable of living in the streets. One day. One day I'll bring my friends into the light of day. There a forest near here. I'll sneak them out one day. She was surprised, as she walked toward the kitchen for the stupid food, that Hawthorne hasn't asked her any questions about the outside world. Ciara found the boy at a table and sat next to him. "Hey, Hawthorne," she said. "Daydreaming again?"

Hawthorn looks up at Ciara, "There's nothing better to do in this dump, and I think I'm gonna die if I eat this." He wrinkles his nose, poking at the slop on his plate. "Hey poison! Come sit with us!" He yells at them, waving them over.

Spooky sat in a corner, reading a spell book while gently stroking a book on the ground beside her. This was her favorite thing to do. Read and pat a book. The book wasn’t any ordinary book, for its pages would open with every gentle pat. Spooky smiles.

Spooky, without a word scurried over with her two books just to continue reading. She did, however, give HawThorn a nod of both acknowledgement and thank you.

Hawthorn smiles widely, "So whatcha readin'?" He quickly glances in the cook, he was pretty much in charge at the orphanage. He whispers a bit, well as loudly as he can being hawthorn, "Careful, the cook's eying your books. Maybe he wants to learn magic too!" He adds a little joke at the end, but he was really just looking out for her because the cook was giving them the side-eye, again.

Spooky looked up at Hawthorn with a giggle. “Well,” she began to whisper. “If that lunatic we call cook, tries to touch it, I’ll turn them into a frog.” That was probably the longest sentence Hawthorn had ever heard the girl say.
