Letting out a stifled screech, Lillian looked down at her first kit, a she-kit, warmth filled her for a moment as she licked the she-kit dry and pulled her closer, just as another contraction shook her body.

Butterball was sleeping soundly in his comfy little bed when he woke up. Dazed and confused, he sat up a d stared around the place.
Lillian was missing, but that wasn't terribly unusual for her.
It wasn't until he smelled an odd scent and heard strangled gasps that he realized something was wrong.
He slipped out the house and wandered to the garden to find Lillian sprawled out and gasping, a kit at her side.

Panicking, he rushed over to her, eyes wide in terror.
"Lillian. Lillian, Lillian, Lillian. I'm here. I don't.... I don't know what to do? What do you need me to do?"
He gaped uselessly at the little squirming ball that was new life. This felt.... so surreal.

Lillian let out a small yowl before gasping,
“Just watch this one,” She motioned to the she-kit, “My mother will be here soon hopefully, make sure she doesn’t stop breathing or something!”

As if on cue, another little kitten decided to reveal itself to the world - a significantly smaller one at that! It was a little female, a diluted calico tabby, who started squirming almost helplessly as she found herself in the open, unknowingly accompanied by an earlier born sister, with more to follow.

Keeping herself from yowling again, Lillian reached over and pulled the new she-kit closer to herself, grooming her quickly so she didn’t die.

The kit let out a whimper as he came into the new world, eyes closed. He was grey and black, but the colour of his eyes would be unknown until he grew up, just like any other kit. A dull sterling blue would turn into his true eye colour. The tom let out a soft squeal, shivering weakly.

Grabbing the small kit by the scruff, Lillian put him next to his sisters, she hoped that this one was the last one... but the pain said otherwise.

Trying to keep his panic in check, Butterball sat down and simply licked the first kit, eyes staring as she gave birth to.... 2 and then 3 more kits.
This was the miracle of life?
He wondered if his mother went through the same pain to have him and his siblings. It seemed awful, but he also wasn't prepared, so maybe he could eventually get past how unsettling it seemed.
As Lillian passed over the other kits, he tucked the first one under his tail and hoped it wouldn't wiggle away and set about to trying to clean the other before setting them under his tail as well. Once the last one seemed to be dealt with, he brought them all close to him and carefully tucking his limbs into a chi ken sorta position to keep them warm, waiting for Lillian to give instruction.
