At the call of his leader, Cardinalsnake raised his head from where he sat, eating a small mouse. It was strange to not see Halestar addressing the clan, and even stranger to see the ShadowClan leader perched upon the Streamstone. Honestly, the tom could not wait to get out of here and go home. The air had the lingering scent of fish and he didn't trust any of the RiverClan cats. Rising to his paws, he padded over and sat down beside his clan mates. He tilted his head to the side slightly, giving him a curious look. He wondered what Goldenstar might want. He was probably announcing the new deputy. His prediction was write as the golden tom continued speaking.

Cardinalsnake's green gaze scanned the camp clearing, trying to see who might make a good choice. If he was chosen, he wouldn't have minded. But it wasn't something he really wanted. He certainly wouldn't turn down an offer, but he would prefer to live life as normal.
Pushing the list of possible choices to the back of his mind, he returned his gaze to Goldenstar. His eyes widened a fraction at the name of the new deputy. Halfgaze? The surprise in his vibrant gaze quickly changed to joy and he quickly looked around for his best friend. It wasn't hard to spot the she-cat with a face unlike most. He jumped to his paws and with that usual charming grin on his maw, he quickly padded over to the new deputy. "Who would've thought that one day you would be leading ShadowClan?" Cardinalsnake said as he reached the she-cat. Loud, deep purrs rumbled from the back of his throat. "I fear that our clan might be doomed now that its future rests on the decisions you make. We all know you're terrible at making decisions," Cardinalsnake said teasingly, nudging her in the shoulder with his own shoulder. The red somali knew that Halfgaze would be anything but a bad leader. She was born for this. The warrior knew that the new deputy was dedicated to her clan and she cared a lot for her clan mates. She probably cared for everyone's well being more than he ever would. Cardinalsnake himself could be very caring if he wanted to. But, he had the tendency to be particular over who he cared so greatly for.

After her words to the clan, Halfgaze remained standing where she was. The molly was simply dumbfounded and was far too shocked to move. I'm the deputy...I'm going to be leader...The thoughts were too much. There was no way that Halfgaze was the right cat for the job! She had to tell Goldenstar that she couldn't do it. The thought was ridiculous, her...leading the clan? Come on! What kind of joke was Starclan playing on her? Her words had come out steadily enough, to the point where she doubted anyone could sense the turmoil inside of her. The tortoiseshell went over them in her mind and nodded to herself, content with her word choice. Still, that was the only movement that stirred her multi-colored body. Too engaged in her own thoughts to move from her spot or even to acknowledge her surroundings, Halfgaze stood lost in thought among her clanmates and the cats of Riverclan.
All of a sudden, a familiar voice was talking to her and a familiar scent reached her nose as something bumped into her shoulder. Halfgaze's dazed eyes caught sight of a charming grin before actually taking in all of Cardinalsnake's features. While Halfgaze appeared a stoic cat, her close friends and family could usually bring out her fun side and the new deputy set aside her worries to smile back at the tom. She laughed at Cardinalsnake's words and bumped his shoulder in return, play-growling, "Watch it! Or I'll put you on dawn patrol every morning for the rest of your life!" The feline laughed and mewed in a more serious tone, "I'm not sure I'm right for this, Cardinalsnake. I'm honored and I love Shadowclan with everything I have, but what if I ruin the clan?" Voiced aloud, the concerns seemed rather farfetched to Halfgaze, but she didn't regret speaking them. Maybe some advice from her best friend would help her.

Noticing how the she-cat was standing very still, the red pelted warrior couldn't help but snicker at her. Of all moments to appear stoic and mysterious, she had chosen this moment. If anything, this was the perfect time to appear warm and friendly and leave a good first impression for everyone to remember. His best friend could be so strange at times.
"Well, that doesn't sound too bad," Cardinalsnake purred. "It would be the perfect way to meet lots of pretty she-cats," He continued smoothly. Honestly, the idea didn't really appeal to him. He was hard working and liked to contribute by going on patrols when possible, but he wasn't much of an early bird and he relished whatever sleep he could get. Flirting, socialising and attending to duties was actually more tiring than one might think.
At her more serious tone, Cardinalsnake quit the joking tone for just a few moments. He could sense something was wrong. He listened to her words, not saying anything as she spoke. For a moment, he stayed silent, a thoughtful glint in his leafy green gaze. "You are the right cat for the job. Do you really think that Goldenstar would choose some random cat and stuff up ShadowClan's future? You were chosen for a reason. You'll see, you'll be one of the best leaders that ShadowClan has ever had. Trust me. I'm always right," Cardinalsnake said, softly at first, but with a joking boastful tone at the end. The warrior couldn't quite understand why she was doubting herself. She had been chosen by the leader himself, she was obviously the right cat for the job. Although the tom had not yet had the opportunity to try befriend the golden tabby, he knew that Goldenstar wanted the best for his clan and so he would leave the clan in good paws. Had he been the one chosen for he job, he knew he wouldn't be doubting himself. But Halfgaze wasn't him. They were two cats who were similar in some ways and different in others. "If you accidentally become power hungry and crazy then I'll stop you before anything gets ruined. I am great at saving everyone after all," He purred. He was 99% sure that wouldn't happen with Halfgaze, but that didn't mean he wouldn't watch out for her, just in case that 1% changed to something bigger

Halfgaze chuckled at her friend's response, but she knew Cardinalsnake well enough to be quite certain that if it actually came to pass, he'd be miserable. The thought gave Halfgaze much pleasure, though she knew she'd never do it. That would be abusing her new power, and while Halfgaze wasn't an overly do-good cat, she wasn't sure she wanted to break the rules of such an important position. But, Halfgaze didn't dwell on it, knowing that it was a simple joke that didn't need too much thought.

When their conversation took a more serious turn, Halfgaze listened to Cardinalsnake's answer with perked ears and focused eyes. She was grateful for her best friend becoming serious for her. All her was saying made sense, and Halfgaze nodded along, stopping abruptly with a laugh at his joke. "Thank you, Cardninalsnake. You're right. Why would Goldenstar choose me if he didn't believe in me?" The tortoiseshell chose to ignore her friend's joking remark about being right, but did listen to his next statement. Halfgaze laughed out loud and purred with amusement, "I appreciate that." The molly nudged Cardinalsnake playfully, before adding, "Though you'd never be able to take me." Amusement shining in the blue and green depths of her gaze, the new deputy gave her best friend a side-look and a mischievous smile.

Vixenlight picked out a good, fresh-looking shrew, padding over to Stormclaw to see him already eating. classic Storm she thought, amused, as she sat and bit into the juicy prey. She was glad she didn't have to eat fish the entire time, but she knew she'd have to try it at some point. She could brag to her kits - if she had any - that she'd tasted the RiverClan prey. "You don't look as thrilled as usual when you just finished prey" she mewed, tilting her head slightly.

Vixenlight gave him a little nuzzle before standing. "Stay here, i'll be back in one second. I'll try to find something fun to do around." She gaze her mates head a lick before leaping off, trying to decide what they should do. Perhaps a walk? Maybe if there wasn't anything in camp. Better look around, first, to not miss anything.

Halfgaze didn't dwell on the thought of abusing her new power in order to get back at her friend, but the thought did bring a secretive smile to her face. She knew that Cardinalsnake couldn't have realized what Halfgaze could do, otherwise the somali would have most definitely not have looked so pleased. Plenty of toms in the clan disliked Cardinalsnake, seeing as he constantly broke the hearts of their sisters, friends, and crushes. Not to mention the fact that non-flirty toms rarely liked the flirty ones.

The new deputy was aware that being serious was not something Cardinalsnake enjoyed but she also knew that he could do it. Halfgaze appreciated that he was willing to give her advice. She also knew that he loved teasing, and she enjoyed teasing him as well. Therefore, the little jokes he interspersed into the conversation were welcomed by the tortoiseshell.

Halfgaze chuckled and nodded at Cardinalsnake's words, looking around the clearing distractedly. The molly started thinking about all her new duties and wondered if she should send out a patrol to check the Shadowclan territory. Perhaps the flooding had gone down. Cardinalsnake's voice brought her gaze back to his and she laughed, mirth shining in her eyes. "Nah, you couldn't take me in your dreams!" She hissed playfully, lashing out a sheathed paw to bump the tom. Halfgaze had noticed the wink, but she knew that Cardinalsnake knew better than flirting with her. He might, occasionally, but Halfgaze was not about to let her best friend flirt with her, nor would she flirt back. Neither of them were interested in each other like that. Anyway, Halfgaze knew exactly what happened with each of the tom's flirts.

Halfgaze's eyes shifted once more around the clearing and she wondered again whether or not she should arrange a patrol to scope the territory. Finally, Halfgaze came to the decision that a patrol was necessary and, having nothing better to do, she decided to lead it. All she needed now was two or three other cats to go with her. "Cardinalsnake," Halfgaze mewed, "I'll have to talk to you later, I think I should start a patrol to the territory and check on the water level. I'll see you later." With a friendly smile and a brush of her tail against her friend, Halfgaze walked away. Her mismatched eyes searched the clearing for two Shadowclan cats who she trusted to cooperate on the patrol. For example, not anyone of the Fuzz family. Of course, Halfgaze knew about the infamous family's beliefs. Surely they were cursing the fact that she was deputy. That'll show them. She thought, triumphantly. Sexism was one of the things that made her the angriest as well as homophobia which of course were the two central beliefs of the family. The thought disgusted her, but she shook it away to focus on finding cats for the patrol.

The golden tom had congratulated the newly named deputy a few moments ago, at the moment he was speaking with one of his siblings. He loved his siblings, he really did, he just didn't know if he shared their beliefs, the golden feline believed that everyone was capable of amazing things, male or female, Heterosexual or Homosexual, it was the ideals and morals that counted. At the same time, however, his siblings were older than him, wiser than him, which meant that they knew better and knew more than him so of course he didn't believe he had any room to object or disagree, at least not until he himself had some experience. As his littermate walked away he returned his gaze to the deputy, his sapphire orbs flickered with curiosity, he didn't mean to eavesdrop, but he did and after hearing that she was looking for patrol members the tom shot up and skipped towards Halfgaze, his fur bouncing with each step. Blazingsky stopped a fox length away and dipped his head "First off, Congratulations on Deputy." he began, "And secondly, I'll be more than happy to join." he purred, his tail flicking behind him. The warrior didn't have anything to do, he couldn't hunt because he wasn't taught how to catch fish yet, and there wasn't any other prey that he could catch within Riverclan territory, like a good warrior, he had never crossed the borders before.
