"Well then", mewed Sunpaw "I know most cats just take the nest and sort through it while whoever they are changing the bedding waits., but I like to put a good pile of the clean moss down as a makeshift nest while I do it.", she said "That way they are more comfortable." Sunpaw purred, laying out half the moss in a pile. "Then we will take out the older moss and put in some new moss." Sunpaw paused for a moment ," Do you know how you can tell if moss isn't that great anymore?", she asked.

Whistlekit listened and watched quietly. He studied the way she laid the moss, determined to remember it for when he was an apprentice and needed to do it. At her question, he looked up, a little surprised at the direct attention. He flicked one ear. His gaze drifted to the side as he thought. "It's usually kinda dead looking... and sometimes it's damp, and just not... comfortable? Like you wouldn't want to sleep on it." He wrapped his tail around his paws self-consciously. He wasn't sure if that was exactly right or made any sense.

"Yeah that's right!", Sunpaw purred. "Do you want to try too?"

"O-Oh, um, okay." He felt pleased that he had gotten it right. A little more confident, he chose some moss of his own and laid it out, mimicking what Sunlaw had done. "Is... is that good?"

"Wow", Sunpaw squeaked, "your pretty good at remembering details! Yes you did it right very nice! You'll make a good apprentice no matter what role you choose in the clan". she thought for a second "How many moons old are you anyways?" Sunpaw added.

Birchpaw slipped inside of the elders´ den, using her claws to rip up the moss lining of the dirty nests, wrinkling her nose at the smell.

Great StarClan, this moss smells bad.

Eyes narrowing, the she-cat used all her strength to tear up more strips of dirty moss, adding them to the moss ball she would take outside of camp later, as long as another warrior was with her.

Tail tip twitching, Birchpaw thought about all the ways she could possibly earn her name and status back early. Killing a fox, killing badger, driving away a Twoleg or a Twoleg dog...

Who knows. If only the demoted warrior could find a way to impress Birdsnow, which Birchpaw doubted that she could.

Then, the RiverClanner got to thinking about the latest battle with ThunderClan. Bumblestar had only called it off since her kit, Wolfpaw, she believed, had been terribly injured.

Birchpaw let out a snort, moving from nest to nest and tearing up the moss lining. Bumblestar had caused her Clan a terrible loss. Wait, ThunderClan wouldn´t have won, anyway. RiverClan would have drove them out or killed them all either way.

Gathering the moss, Birchpaw slipped outside of the den and dropped it off outside the camp entrance, a ball of fresh moss in her jaws.

As the she-cat slunk inside the elders´ den once more, she began to line the nests with fresh moss and ferns.

"Oh... thank you," Whistlekit murmured bashfully. He ducked his head at her question. "Oh, um, seven moons," he admitted. "Birdsnow's had a lot going on, y'know... it's okay though, I don't mind waiting a bit." He didn't say what he often worried — that he wasn't an apprentice yet because of where he came from. It was an irrational worry to be sure — there really bad been quite a bit of turmoil recently, and Birdsnow certainly hadn't given any hint toward holding such beliefs. Whistlekit sighed quietly.

"How old are you?" he returned the question, figuring it was only polite.

"I'll be tenmoons one sun journey after the next gathering. I was apprenticed only about a moon ago." She said.

(Um after this in the parentheses is a time-skip because the gathering just happened so this is the day afterwards. There is also, awkward news because I didn't do the apprentice request correctly.)

Sunkit padded across the clearing to the elders den. She gave a weak but sincere purr to find Whisperkit was there too. "I'm Sunkit still", she mewed sadly" ,"but I should become an apprentice soon I hope". Spotedstream had been so angry with her. How was I Suposed to know., She thought bitterly. Plus that was also embarrassing for me as well. She gave her chestfur a few embarrassed licks.

minkpaw poked her head into the den, looking around before stepping in, white paws scraping over the small bump that marked the entrance.
"anyone need help with anything?" the grey-white apprentice mewed, voice low though echoing in the hollow of the den. it had been a few days since the raid and she was finally beginning to feel like she wasnt in a strangers body anymore, sight issues fading into near nothingness as other thoughts came and went, and the deep sitting aches and sore shoulders had become as much a regular feeling as the thick scent of herbs clinging to her pelt was.

[yeah i didnt realise the two elders that i swear were there like two months ago were indeed, not there anymore....uhhh ]

Ew this place smelled like old people. Old people and rotting prey. Adderpaw wish she could shove flowers in her nose just to block the stink. What did elders do all day? Sit and rot? Wait actually that was probably it.

Ignoring the scent the best she could, Adderpaw changed all the old moss beddings for fresh ones. It sure helped the scent but maybe the elders should consider personal hygiene
