Archkit's border patrol

The wind blew fiercely on the moorland, making Freedom's fur ruffle and her whiskers quiver. The tiny kit in her jaws mewed, only for the mew to be whisked away. Freedom glanced behind her. The fox was nowhere to be seen. She staggered on, still weak from her recent kitting, searching for a place to rest and feed her kit.


There! A small rocky alcove, just big enough to curl up in. She headed straight for it. The wind was growing stronger now. Freedom clamped her jaws harder on the kit's scruff, for fear of it blowing away. She slept there, she slept, curled around her only surviving kit.
The stench of fox woke her up. She lay there for a few heartbeats, not daring to move, in case the kit started to squeal. The fox was drawing in closer. Freedom unsheathed her claws and stood up.


There was no choice now. She would have to face the fox. Freedom pushed her way out of her temporary den. The fox stood a tail-length away, baring its teeth. "You shall not have my kit!" she bellowed, lunging forward. The fox dodged her attack and sank its teeth into her back leg. She screeched and racked her claws along its flank.
The fox tugged, making her topple over, and lunged at her with sharp claws and teeth. She struggled on, giving as good as she got, but she was still drained, and eventually the fox got the better of her and left her lying on the tough, windblown grass. It turned away and headed for the alcove.


Through the blood in her eyes, Freedom could see the fox. As it reached its paw into the den, she struggled to her paws, drawing upon her last sparks of energy. Freedom charged at it, slamming into its side and sending it flying off its paws. She slashed to and fro with both paws, spraying blood into the air. The fox started to squeal, and Freedom showed no mercy, slashing again and again at its face.


The cliff ahead, I can push it down there, thought Freedom. With one last heave, she shoved it over. The fox scrabbled at the edge, and with a last attempt to get back up, it sank its teeth into her neck. Freedom slipped and fell. Down and down, until she hit the bottom with a sickening thud.


The first rays of sunlight shone over the hilltops. In the distance, a WindClan dawn patrol was making its way along the border, and in the alcove, the tiny kit could be heard, crying with hunger.

(That was a beautiful prologue!)
Following Ashclaw, Deadmoon huffed softly at the reminder to keep her eyes and ears open. Well of COURSE! That was the entire point of a patrol! But before she was able to give some pithy comment her attention was drawn away from their small party. The scent of blood, and fox, was thick in the air. Fox blood, and cat blood. Pinpointing the location with a few more quick sniffs of the air, Deadmoon set off at a trot. The rest of the patrol could surely smell it by now with how clearly she could, and she imagined they would follow.

After only a few moments of bounding along the moor, the site of what had likely been a confrontation became clear. Tufts of fur scattered about the ground, blood dark in the dust, and the overpowering scent of both rogue and fox. Immediately, her attention was drawn to the fox scent. It seemed to have plunged off the nearby cliff, along with the rogue. Peculiar, but not impossible. Intent upon confirming the fox had gone, Deadmoon continued along the cliff, peering downwards in search of a body. @Breezestarfire @Rabbiteye @Bean_The_Cat

Ashclaw followed deadmoon seeing she is focused on the same smell he smelled, as he sniffed he heard a kit, he went off the path looking for the sound he saw a young kit, he called out to his patrol" guys over here quickly!!" he called out in a urgent , he was worried for the small kit, wheres its mother?, what happened to it? did the fox attack the mother somewhere?, he questioned in his mind grabbing the kit he picked it up and set it down in more of a opening spot,

The pale kit wriggled in Ashclaw's jaws. It squealed as he put her dawn and began sniffing the air, looking for he mother.
