Meeting a Lost Retaliative (Private!)

Just a few seconds ago, she had been dreaming of chasing rabbits through a field. Now, she found herself in a forest enveloped in shadows. Overall it was just . . . dark. Like an eternal night. It took a little for her eyes to adjust. That was weird. Everything felt so real. She got up from the place she had found herself laying down when she appeared. She scented the air, smelling a vaguely familiar scent. That was weird . . . she could've sworn that scent was gone forever. The cat owning that scent had disappeared, assumed dead. She scented again and was hit by realization. She was in The Dark Forest. The scent she smelled was her uncle, Danely. She sighed and looked around, searching for him.

Blackhaze finished up his small meal and stood to move off. There was a strange smell in the air. “Who’s there?” He growled a bit but his voice seemed calm.

She heard the voice and her hopes were confirmed. It was her uncle Danely. Sniffles. I'm your half-niece. I've heard about you before. she said. Hopefully, he'd at least heard about her. Probably not.

Blackhaze lifted his head from the lowered aggressive stance it had been in. “Not a peep. How exactly am I your uncle? Frecklepaw never had kids...” He searched through his memories to figure out which of the blurry images were his siblings.

She screwed up her face in thought, Uh, I don't know exactly how. My mother was your half-sibling. Don't ask me her name. I only ever called her mother. she said. Her face still was still in an awkward expression.

Blackhaze narrowed his eyes, “Then what’s my name?” He growled a bit again. He didn’t like this at all.

She cocked her head, attempting to remember. Danely? she asked. She was pretty sure that was his name.
