Adderpaw couldn't help but make a little smile when she saw that Jayfrost still was wearing her feathers. She wondered if she should say something about it but shook it off. She didn't want to make him not want to wear it. Though she did really like the gift she was given, making sure to not let it get lost.

"Well I will just help them out anyways, even if they aren't here." Adderpaw said before she started to replace moss beds.

he just gave the apprentice a nod in response, squirrel safe in the middle of the den he gave the shiny rock he had gifted adderpaw no thought, he was sure she would take care of it, jayfrost got to helping to shift around moss. the elders better appreciate their work. continuing the work he wondered what being an elder was like, he was sure he wouldnt make it that far.

 

in his mind he was to die in battle, die for his sins if you will, and maybe repay some of the dept he had, seemingly weighing him down with every step. how could one repay their depts with a dead cat if not through their own death in order to spare another. starclan be cursed. this was the right way.

Whistlekit slipped into the den, glancing around for the elders. "Does anyone need something to eat?" he called nervously. Though he hadn't yet been apprenticed, he figured it best to help out around camp any way he could — maybe when Birdsnow finally had a moment of peace to consider ceremonies, he'd get a mentor instead of kicked out of the clan...

He shut his eyes against that thought. He had no reason to believe he wasn't welcome here, regardless of where he had been born.

Gorsebark

The calico tom buried his face into his bed, that sun sure was irritating. Always shining through the cracks amongst the leaves and brambles that had been weaved into the Elders den. He groaned as he heard the peppy voice of a kit.

Gorsebark sat up lazily, squinted his amber eyes, and let out a soft huff. “Not hungry…”he mewed, switching positions into a more comfortable posture suitable for his grooming endeavors. A tidy cat was a good one.

Surprised and somewhat discouraged by the denial, Whistlekit shuffled his paws. "Is... there anything else I can do for you?" He trailed of with uncertainty and a pang of sheepishness at the realization that he may have woken the elder. "I'll go if I'm bothering you."

Gorsebark

Awkward silence followed as the tom cat processed his actions. The regret quickly settled in, like a tick on a warm body. “Uh, wait, what is it you want to help out with.” He attempted to warm his body language; he didn’t need to be known as the pessimistic cat, someone whose attitude was more sour than a crab apple.

Whistlekit perked up immediately. Maybe he'd spoken out of sleepy confusion? "Um. I know you said you weren't hungry, but I could get you something small to eat? Or I can switch out your bedding if it needs it..." He tried to remember the elder's name. There being only two, he knew this cat was either Icestrike or Gorsebark. He could swear he knew it was probably Gorsebark...but was he wrong? Hm.

The feline smiled at the enthusiastic kit. “Of course you can help, but first; we must introduce ourselves! Have you forgotten your manners?” he purred playfully. The calico stretched out, and groaned. He could swear that his back was stiffer than a plank of wood. Shaking out the kinks in his neck, he thoughtfully took a few moments to formulate the conversation starter. “I’m Gorsebark, who might you be?”

He sat attentively awaiting the kits reply.

Whistlekit ducked his head sheepishly, but he couldn't help but feel rather gratified to hear he'd been right about which elder he was speaking to. "Whistlekit," he supplied his name. "Hopefully though, I won't be a 'kit' for much longer." Secretly, he'd been somewhat relieved to have his ceremony postponed, even if the circumstances were less than ideal. As much as he wanted to help out around RiverClan, becoming a 'paw' would mean more talking with more cats he didn't know. Sure, he was getting along with Gorsebark well enough, but even this civil conversation had his heartbeat rising through the roof.

Anyway, he probably wouldn't be too good at fighting...
