Thorn picked up Graykit and dashed out of camp. He glared at all the cats. Not accusingly, but more of a ‘how-could-you?’ glare. He knew he was most likely to be exiled. The Clan didn’t trust him.

"Where are we going?" Graykit asked. The kit was confused why they were leaving.

Flatfoot watched the in and greykit go. She sniffles a bit, the clan was falling apart at the hinges. How could they survive with a broken clan?

Thorn sighed. “The clan doesn’t trust me. They think I’m the murderer. They’re going to exile me, and if you want, you can come with me. I’ll taje care of you.” he set the kit down, facing her.

Ash gazed at the pair leaving camp. Thorn's being exiled, aren't they? He wondered, Why does everyone think he's the killer?

The newly named leader glanced around the clearing warily, still coming to the realization that it was now his job to exile the thought murderer. Caracalstar was dead. Elmpaw was dead. And Moonmoon had been exiled. It hadn't helped. None of the previous leader's efforts had helped.

Branchstar yawned and gave a long stretch, standing all the way out on to the very tops of his toes. Settling back down, the tom sighed wearily, circling on the rock before finding a nice, warm spot he could perform this duty in peace.

The leader cut straight to the point. "Cats of WinkClan," he yowled, voice shaking slightly. Clearing his throat, Branchstar tried again. "As all of you know, Caracalstar was killed last night. His body was found in a small clearing that was very close to camp. It is my solemn duty to avenge this great leader's death, and I will do so with honor." Another pause, and he'd finally gathered up the courage to give his cats a direct answer. "Thorn."

Shocked- but not really- the apprentice stepped up. Shaking visibly, he whispered, "I know that you all think I did it. But look at reason. I'm just an apprentice. You exiled Moonmoon, and she wasn't the murderer. How could you know it was me?"

Seeming to contemplate this for a moment, Branchstar answered coldly, "Because all evidence points to you, Thorn. You never really were one of us. You kept the name Thorn and refused to take the suffix of a true apprentice. Always acting alone, being reserved- how could you not be the murderer?"

Barging past the rest of the Clan, the smallest cat in WinkClan stood next to the suspect, her tail lashing. "You can't exile him!" She wailed, launching the words up at her new leader. "He's all I've got left!"

Another cold glare was shot at Graykit. "Do you have any sense, kit? Step away from him now! He's dangerous!"

Tears spiraling down her cheeks and leaving shiny trails behind, Graykit bolted for the camp entrance. Her short legs didn't take her very far, but she needed space to breathe. "Why me, StarClan?" The small molly screeched to the blazing sky. The sun was setting upon WinkClan, just as the lights were dimming inside Graykit's head.

Taking a deep, shuddering breath, she slammed her head onto a hard rock. Falling limp, the she-cat remained unconscious, blood trickling down the same trail the tears had left.

{meanwhile x3}

"Branchstar, please!" Thorn begged, already being shoved out of camp by the ones he once fought beside."Ash! C'mon, buddy, stick up for me, here! Sundar? Hamilton? Birchflower?"

All the cats he mentioned looked away fearfully, Birchflower even running away to the Warriors' den. Pushed outside entirely now, the young tom trekked towards a small log, clearing it easily. He knew the drill- seen on territory, you'll be attacked, la la la. But something caught his eye.

Could it be... Graykit?!

"Graykit!" Thorn gasped, racing over to her and licking the wound fearfully. Stirring slightly, the unconscious she-kit moaned and swiped with her claws sheathed at the former Clan cat's nose groggily. "Graykit, wake up!"

Sharply inhaling, the small molly sat up and scrambled to get back on her paws. "Thorn? I- oh, my head..." Graykit collapsed into a slouched seating position yet again.

"Take it easy," the tom scolded. "What happened? Did you trip and fall?"

Embarrassed at what had actually happened, she shrugged and muttered, "Yeah."

Thorn paused for a moment. "I guess I was right, ha. I'll take care of you now more than ever before, Graykit."

Burrowing her wounded head into the larger cat's chest fur, the molly whispered, "I hope so."

Ash shuddered at his former clan member's words. He was going to miss him, that's for sure. But I never talked to him... and he spoke my name first? Was that a sign or something? Or did Thorn know that Ash didn't believe what the other's said?

He looked back at Thorn, pushing his way to the entrance. I wish I could go with them, but they'll never forgive me for looking away... He watched as they left his sight. But a sudden thought came to him about what Branchstar said. If not having a true clan name points to being the killer, what does that say about me?
