Bramblepaw nodded, bending over to take her mouse.
But Icebite shoved past the two she-cats, making it impossible to grab her mouse.
Foxbite quickly followed.
When Bramblepaw looked for the mouse, it was gone.

Bramblepaw's eyes brightened. "Thank you!" she meowed as she reached for one of the mice. When she was about to set it down and start eating something startled her into dropping it.
"May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather for a Clan meeting!" Blazestar called out.

Leafpaw looked up, startled, and glanced at Foxbite. She stood and walked forward, trying hard not to twitch nervously. She fixed her gaze on Blazestar, trying to look attentive but not stare too hard or look frighteningly worshipful, as she noticed with a shudder that that was how most cats looked as they, too, swiveled their heads to look at their leader. And she realized with a start that she was starting to feel strange, as if she wanted to stay here forever and were willing to fight and die for Blazestar. But I have a real home. I'm not like these brainless others, who think that Blazestar is the center of the universe. I've seen his other side... how he threatened Firefang when I stood up to him. I have to get back to my real home and I refuse to stay here and fall servant to this tyrant.
