The dark-furred tomcat let a small, relaxed sigh leave his parted jaws as he let his eyes close for a moment or two, allowing his ears to twitch and just listen to the many curious and interesting sounds around him as he quietly chewed on the delicious meat in his mouth after taking another bite of the sparrow from before. After many moons of deep snow and chilling nights, it was not hard to tell that the young apprentice was more than happy for this wondrous weather - which he silently hoped would last for many more days to come. The moons of Leafbare were never forgiving for him, especially with his patched fur where bare skin clearly showed. As time passed, Shadepaw found himself growing lost in thought with his muzzle to the sky, his amber-hued gaze flickering to the fluffy white clouds that passed overhead. However, to his surprise, a strangely familiar voice rung into his ears, which sounded like his name and brought the male back to the reality that he was currently in. Lowering his head now to the direction of the sound, Shadepaw immediately caught sight of a small feline scampering over to him. It took him a moment to recognize them, but after a second or two, the small shekit soon jogged his memory from the nursery moons that he had just gotten away from. Flaxkit, the only one who seemed to not shutter away from his appearance and saw him as a friend, no doubt, by the way she grew excited at the mere sight of him. It was strange to Shadepaw, having someone that actually liked his company, but he certainly had no problem with it though - it was a nice kind of strange. “Hello, Flaxkit.” The youth thought as he looked down at her with a smile, even though she could not know what he was thinking. He gave a little nod with a rumbling purr as a greeting, ruffling the kitten’s fur atop her head with a gentle paw. He tilted his head to the side, as if to say: “How have you been?”

shadepaw didn't have to say anything for flaxkit to understand, it was a sort of silent communication that flaxkit had mastered over the few moons that the two of them had had together. she didn't mind doing the vocal talking, it wasn't as if she ever ran out of things to talk about, really. she gave a playful sneer as the tom ruffled her fur even more than it already was, but purred soon after as she beamed and settled herself next to the patchy-furred tomcat, leaning against him affectionately as she licked her paw and scrubbed the remaining sleepiness from her eyes.

" good! well, as good as i can be, usually crammed in the nursery and all, " she chirped, sounding rather chipper despite how sidelined bitter the last part of her sentence sounded, " it gets pretty boring in there, as much as i like spending time with my mo-- dad. my dad, i need a breath of fresh air from time to time, " she admitted, stumbling over her words. she was still getting used to it. brows furrowed, she thought about it for a moment, before shaking her head in an attempt to push the thought away, turning back to shadepaw with a bright expression.

" anyways, how have you been? how is apprenticeship treating you? "

There was a common cliche of apprentices seeing kittens as nuisances or burdens when it came to training and whatnot when they followed them around, trying to play or seek inspiration perhaps, but in all honesty from the young tomcat, he never once saw the small Flaxkit as annoying or distracting in any way ever since they had met in the nursery a few moons prior to now. It felt actually really nice to have her around and he welcomed the younger cat into his life whenever she wanted apart of it, knowing that there was a chance that she would get bored with him or make new, more interesting friends down the road - the realization was painfully more possible than he really knew and that made him cherish the times that they would share now for the time-being. He watched as the small shekit laid against him without any hesitation, not seeming to be bothered by his rough fur or bare-skin patches. It made a gentle wave of warm go through the apprentice, a grateful smile slipping onto his muzzle once more. Taking another tiny bite of the sparrow between his paws, he looked at his dear friend as she told him about her experiences, still being cooped up in the nursery with her father. Shadepaw uttered a small chuckle and gave Flaxkit a gentle bump of his shoulder against her own as if to silently reassure her that things would get better soon enough. “You’ll be an apprentice like me soon enough, my friend, and then we can have many adventures out in the hunting grounds - just the two of us.” He thought, looking at her as he did so, wishing that he could just speak to her directly and not make things difficult. His muteness was often a burden in his opinion and it just made him grit his teeth, but the tom didn’t let those thoughts get to him now - especially in front of her. He was lucky enough that she asked him how he was doing, so that the male could focus on that now. At the mention of his training, his mind went to his mentor - Tinyfawn. She was nice to him, very motherly, being a queen and all while doing so. Shadepaw lifted a paw and tilted it slightly as if to say that it was alright, but not too exciting right now. “We actually haven’t started training yet, but soon enough, I will learn to hunt and fight like a real cat and then the whole clan will no longer see me as a useless freak.” He thought with a somewhat sense of excitement in his amber-hued eyes, “We’ll be the best warriors this clan has ever seen, Flaxkit, I just know it.” The thought alone made him smile and look at his friend before scooting the partially eaten sparrow towards her. “Wanna try some?”

she wasn't at all bothered by the rough, strange texture of shadepaw's pelt, the scratch of it against her own was rather cathartic, actually, and made her want to brush up against it even more but she knew that could get irritated. instead, she laid down on her side, still pressed snug up against the tomcat as she sprawled out and half-shut her eyes though kept them open enough to still see shadepaw beside her. she giggled a bit at his motions and nodded enthusiastically, gently pressing her small head into the tom's side.

" you'll be the best warrior skyclan will ever know, shadepaw! i just know it, " she murmured softly, sitting up bit but not enough to separate physical contact with shadepaw, " and anyone who disagrees will have to speak with me and my paws! " she emphasised her point by mocking a fighting move she had hardly seen even once before.

it wasn't that she was attention-seeking or being flirtatious, flaxkit was just very fond of physical affection, platonic or otherwise. she loved the warmth and the gentle intimacy of it, the closeness. she was practically attached to her father when she was inside the nursery. besides, it didn't seem like shadepaw really minded, and flaxkit was sure she could read him pretty well.

sitting up some more at the gesture that offered her the prey shadepaw had and was currently chewing, her eyes widened a bit. despite being a little bit older, she still relied on her father for milk, it was rare that she got to eat 'real' food at all unless her father was already eating it and decided to sneak her some. but she could eat fresh-kill just fine! she'd done it before. glancing at shadepaw for a moment, she let out a snorting chuckle before leaning over and sinking her teeth into the sparrow, although she miscalculated the distance and ended up accidentally shoving more of the meat into her mouth than she was prepared for. this ended in flaxkit literally biting off more than she could really chew, although she tried, making a loud smacking noise as she struggled with round cheeks.

The young apprentice glanced down at the smaller kitten pressing up against him and he couldn’t keep himself from emitting a gentle purr at how affectionate Flaxkit was towards him, it was something that he would never grow tired of such things from his dear friend. He had never even had this kind of love and attention from his own parents - whoever they were or if they were still alive out there. He was uncertain, but chose not to dwell on such a thing right now. Shadepaw rested his chin on top of her tiny head for a moment, loving to be so close and open with someone like this. After having to go about things on his own for so long, it felt nice to have a bit of caring and kindness in his routine now and then. He couldn’t help but chuckle though at her enthusiastic words about him being the best warrior of Skyclan someday, which made him smile and gently nudge her playfully. “You’ll be better than me, without a doubt.” The dark-furred tomcat couldn’t help but think as he looked up at the sky that stretched out overhead, seeing as fluffy white clouds drifted by without a care in the world. Seeing Flaxkit attempt to do a fighting move to show that she would protect him. He huffed at this, giving her a smirk as he sat up and swiped both of his paws in the air. “And if anyone ever messes with you when you become an apprentice, they’ll have to answer to me first!” Shadepaw growled in his mind, looking down at the younger feline before laying back down beside her. Watching with a bit of curiosity as the shekit looked at his sparrow with awe, the male watched as she dove forward, chomping down into the fresh meat of the bird. His eyes widened at this, almost tempted to check if the youth was alright, but as she backed away with her cheeks round with the prey stuffed in her mouth - the sight alone made him give a mrow of laughter before he took a huge bite of the bird as well, stuffing his face and sticking his tongue at Flaxkit with a playful glint in his eyes. “We’re such mousebrains.” He couldn’t help but think this, but he did not mind it either way.

Eveningkit forced another sing-song lie out of her mouth,” Will do!” She replied forcing a purr flicking her tail simply as if all was good and normal for the apprentice.

Cherrypaw smiled and rested her white tail over Eveningkit's shoulder for a moment before pulling it away. "Alrighty," The apprentice began with a groan. She stretched her forelegs forwards and extended his claws, stretching out every muscle that she could. "I'd better get started with my duties for today." It was a struggle for the apprentice not to roll her eyes. She was enjoying talking with Eveningkit and wished she got more time like this. "I was late for my latest training session, so I've been trying to stay off my mentor's radar recently." Cherrypaw purred, her whisker's twitching in amusement.
