Default An Unexpected Visitor [ Private ]

@.:Blue Wishes:.

Moon poked her white head out of a hole in the roots of a tree, surveying the area. Her head moved slowly as her blue eyes scanned the area for movement. When she was satisfied, she scrambled the rest of the way out. She then spent a moment shaking the loose dirt from her short fur. It was a bit awkward, as she tried to smooth out her fur. Finally, after a minute or so of vigorous grooming, Moonshook out her pelt one last time, then headed into the forest. She purposefully headed away from the Twolegplace, but away from the Clans as well. She knew from experience that the Clans would drive her away, and the Twolegs would kick her out.

Ocean hadn’t been out in ages, he had spent most of his time in the grotto where he and Enzo lived, well, had lived. Enzo hadn’t been around in ages, and, while the tom could understand that sometimes he had the ability to scar other cats away, he didn’t think Enzo would leave without at least telling him. Alas, here he was, padding through the unclaimed territories. He had been thinking about joining one of the clans, but ever since he saw the battle that had happened a moon or two ago, he didn’t want anything to do with them. He thought the clans would be peaceful, but they obviously weren’t. Either way, he was fine on his own, so he tried to tell himself not to worry about it. Still, he would have liked some kind of companionship, his eyes lighting up as he saw another cat. Taking a step forward, he suddenly stopped, backing up, walking too close could end him. He barely knew how to hunt, much less fight, his blue eyes wide, trying to find a way to hide himself as he stared at the other cat.

Moon glanced around again, sensing movement. She barely opened her mouth, letting the woodland scents bathe her senses. New growth after a long leaf-bare, yep. A hint of rain, that was normal. Woodland creatures, yes. After a long moment, Moon closed her maw once more. With a shake of her head, she sighed. Paranoia, that was all it was. She’d been alone for so long, the insanity was starting to creep in. Frustrated, the loner stomped on the fresh grass with an unsheathed paw, sending dirt upward and upturning the grass. With one last sigh and shake of her head, Moon started walking again.
Just a few more pawsteps and she stopped in her tracks. She felt like she was being... watched. It was like a prickling sensation in her fur. She turned around once more, and decided to investigate further. A part of her screamed that it was just paranoia. And part of it was. But she didn’t like the feeling that some weird cat might be watching her.
Quickly, she went over the options in her head. One was to be intimidating and threaten the cat to come out. She eliminated that one. Moon could also just poke around and try to find someone or something. Not the best option, but not out yet. She could calmly coax the cat out... but that’d make her look stupid if it was only a prey creature. ’ugh!’ Moon thought, frustrated once more. She quickly calmed herself once more and decided to try to coax the cat out with promises of peace. If it was a prey creature, no one would be there to make fun of her. It’d just be a juicy meal.
Moon made herself to look as non-threatening as possible. She remained standing, but made sure to flatten her fur. She’s sheathed her claws, and crouched down a bit. Feeling satisfied, she called out. “Okay... whoever’s there. Please come out. I won’t hurt you.”

Ocean automatically froze, his mind running wild. The only scent he could smell was the one of the loner in front of him, and a nearby rabbit. Despite the temptation, he’d rather live off the few fish he could catch, and the herbs that he believed could cure his hunger for awhile. He wasn’t one of the medicine cats that the clans had, but he had tidbits of knowledge, and those helped him. Enzo has hunted, so the small tom seemed to almost be caving in on himself, living off fish and herbs. Nonetheless, he believed he was still strong, it was just the lack of nutrients. Of course, this wasn’t good for him, but he believed he was fine.
He flinched when he saw the cat turn around. Sure, he wasn’t exactly trying to stalk them, but- who was he kidding? This was the first sign of life other then prey and twolegs. He was so happy to see someone else for the first time in ages. Despite all that, he still hung back, fear keeping him from going any farther. While Ocean wanted this cat to be nice, he couldn’t guarantee that they would be, and tried to find any sign that they might be. He was now waiting for any kind of sign that showed he could say hi, and he got it a few moments later. Taking a deep breath breath and trying to evaluate the pros and cons of coming out, he padded out of the bushed where he had been hiding, and automatically regretted it, feeling extremely awkward. “Sorry...” he murmured, which only made him more flustered, trying to smile to the best of his ability. “Erm...hi...?”

Moon stared at the cat who slunk out of the bushes. Pretty small, seemingly harmless. She didn’t know she was tense until her muscles relaxed a bit. It seemed that the tom was alone. At least, she hoped he was alone. Her fighting skills weren’t sharp, and, if it came down to it, she’d probably be easily beaten by a seasoned fighter.
Suppressing a shudder, Moon stayed where she was, hoping not to scare the young tom away. In all of her time alone - what was it? A moon or two? Maybe three; she couldn’t tell anymore - she’d yearned for some company. Or at least a decent conversation. She’d have to go for the latter. It’s be weird if she just yowled that she wanted to be companions. Very weird.
Noticing the cat’s awkwardness, Moon offered a small smile. She wasn’t very gifted in social skills, either. That’s why she ran away in the first place. That, and the violence. Here, she was free of having to talk to cats. Until now, of course. And there was no violence, really, unless hunting counted. Which, in Moon’s mind, it didn’t.
Replying to the cat, Moon said, “...Hi.” ‘WOW, Moon. Is that the best you can do?’ Clearing her throat, she continued. “I’m Moon. You are...? Better. Moon made sure to keep a calm, welcoming tone. She didn’t want to frighten the cat. Unless the tom attacked, there would be no blood shed.

Ocean watched the other cat, relaxing slightly after a few moments. They had seemed just as tense as he was, trying to get a better view of them without narrowing his eyes. From what he could tell, the cat across from him was most likely a she-cat, his breathing still kind of nervous and shallow. She seemed alone, just like him, so he decided to take his chances, walking a few steps closer. Steadying himself, he listened to the cat, who had now introduced herself as Moon. “Ocean.” he replied, before getting slightly flustered, “I’m Ocean...hello?” his tone went up at the end, making the words seem like more of a question. Now it all came down to what he might say next, though he didn’t know what he would say, shifting uneasily, trying to keep his fur flat. It had been ages since he had seen a cat, a she-cat for that matter. He wasn’t exactly into she-cats, but he always found that they were different then the toms he would be around. That was probably normal, trying not to stare, glancing around the area he was in, praying that Moon had some sort of way to start up a conversation, because he sure didn’t.

Moon nodded. The stranger - who had now introduced himself as Ocean - seemed flustered. Offering a reassuring nod, Moon thought of what to say. There were a million different directions the exchange between them could go. But since it was pretty awkward between the two, she decided to kind of break the ice a little bit.
“Uh, what- er,” Moon shook her head. How could she word this so it didn’t sound weird or threatening? “What... has you wandering around here? Like, this is pretty much uninhabited, except for me.” ‘Smooth,’ she thought to herself. The statement was true though. There was no one around for at least a day’s walk. It’s been pretty peaceful, aside from the occasional badger or fox. At least she could fight those off. She would never be able to hold her ground in a fight with a fully grown cat. That was why she avoided the clans. That, and there were plenty of prey creatures elsewhere.

(( well that makes two of us then- ))

Ocean watched Moon quietly, she didn’t seem like she would hurt him, which came as a huge relief to the tom. He found himself calming down slightly, a welcome reaction. The silence was stretching out, and Ocean had no idea what to say, just watching Moon, hoping he didn’t come off as creepy, as that would be the worst thing for him. He didn’t want to scare anyone away, and he felt horrible any time he did. That was why, when Moon began to speak, he calmed down quite a bit.
“Just...going for a walk,” he murmured, surprised that he didn’t stammer in any way shape or form. “Erm...hunting.” of course. It automatically blew out the window. He didn’t want to admit that he was lonely, so he was just looking for someone else. “Do you live in this area?” he asked quickly, tensing up, preparing to leave if he was accidentally on someone else’s land, not quietly waiting, hoping that Moon would be friendly, even if he was trespassing.

Moon eyed the smaller cat. So far, so good. She didn’t want to scare him off. He seemed reasonable, perhaps even friendly. Maybe it was because she had been alone for so long, that her judgement was terrible. This could be a killer who could murder her in her sleep. Of course, the vague possibility of that was, well, unrealistic. Still, it wouldn’t kill her to be careful. She still had quite a bit of her life ahead of her, though, to her, it seemed bleak and pointless. Nothing had much meaning anymore. Every day she went out, caught some prey, ate it, got a drink from the stream, hunted again, ate, slept. It was almost maddening. Boring, monotonous. But that was beside the point.
“Yeah, I live around here. But it’s... nice to see someone else.” ‘WOOOOW YOU JUST BLEW IT STUPID HE WAS PRETTY OKAY AND YOU’RE JUST LIKE “it’s nice to see someone else” WOW.’ she thought sarcastically. ‘shut uP!’ she thought back, sniffing. Then, she realized she was arguing with herself. In her head. ‘Great. I’m slowly going insane.’ The she-cat glanced over at Ocean. He seemed like a good cat, but she wasn’t attracted to tons like that. She was more into other she-cats.

Ocean found himself squirming under Moon’s gaze, unsure of how to react. It was going good, he found himself breathing evenly, that was always good. Now it was all up to if he could stay that calm. There were millions of possibilities running through his mind, every one worse then the last. This really wasn’t helping his mind remain calm. Meeting this cat could be the end of him! Why was he thinking this way? He didn’t know. It was instinct to always assume the worst for him. Bad thoughts aside, it was wonderful to see another cat for the first time in ages, even if they were both really awkward.
“Ah, okay,” he said in a soft voice, “I-I’d have to admit i-it’s nice to see someone as well,” great, now he was stammering. He watched Moon, and saw that it also seemed like she was being pretty harsh on herself mentally, something that the tom was used to. He ended up just standing there, shifting uneasily from one paw to the other. He was still trying to take everything in. Sure, it was just another cat, but it has still been awhile, and he couldn’t deny that. Now the silence just seemed to stretch out, and Ocean didn’t know how to fill it, just standing there, dead silent.
