It was her iron paw and bloodlust that had driven them out. To replace their kinder, clear thinking, level headed deputy with an equally cruel cat?

Whiskernose stared with disdain as Dawnstripe was named deputy.
Icestar's family seemed to be filling the high ranks with her blood, her kin. He was willing to say nothing about Ebonyfang, he seemed to be a good cat, and as Cotrusflower's kit, really, he didn't feel right saying something against him.

This was different. This was obviously a ploy, or... something. To assign her own family as high ranks... was wrong. Wrong on very many levels.
He looked around for Citrusflower as Hailstorm was, presumably, about to be executed. He didn't know her relationship with her niece, but surely this was somewhat upsetting?
He approached Owlfeather and Citrusflower.
If Citrusflower wanted him to stay near, he would, but if she wanted to be alone he'd leave her to mourn. He sat by her, offering support if she needed or wanted it.

Marigoldpaw didn’t understand the big fuss. There was a new deputy. So what!? As long as they did their job right the golden furred apprentice didn’t care. Icestar was leader she had every right to choose who the deputy would be not the clan! Hmmm. Wait. That doesn’t sound right....

Citrusflower was a little upset that another one of Icestar's kin was put in power. This wasn't a good idea, but of course she couldn't argue with her sister. Not when she had just come back. It would have just been for nothing. The queen ignored her thoughts about her niece Dawnstripe. Now she was more focused on hailstorm. The poor cat was scared out of her mind. She wanted to go and comfort her, but thought better of it. Citrusflower scented a familiar scent and spotted her mate. He is what she needed right now. The calico molly pressed her head into his fur, trying to find some comfort in him.

Graykit didn't understand anything. The young tom stood up on wobbly paws and moved forward to get into the crowd. He wanted to know what was going on. "Exwuse mwe.", he meowed, squeezing past a couple of cats. The young gray and white tom felt his paws slip underneath him and he fell. Instead of crying he just lifted his head up and laid down. He wondered if his family would be coming to get him.

Oh... oh, geez. Bearstrike's howls of approval faltered as Icestar turned her fury on Hailstorm. His breath had caught in his throat. No... no, this wasn't supposed to happen. Not here, not now, not yet. Falconboy still had work to do, and how would he get it done without Hailstorm?

Wait. No. No, this could be good. Maybe the she-cat could help them better like this, as someone whom the Ice Monster didn't have to worry about anymore. She wouldn't be at risk of being found out, or at least at lesser risk than the rest of them. Bearstrike realized he had risen to his paws out of... what? Shock, or protest, more likely. He sat back down and wrapped his tail around his giant paws. His eyes smoldered like green coals. Just. Do. Nothing.

At this revelation, Rumblepaw leaped to his paws with a furious yowl. Of course! Of course it was Hailstorm's fault! Icestar said it was so of course that had to be it! "You evil roulade!" he hurled shrilly at the traitor. "You traitorous cinerary! Get out! Leave! ShadowClan doesn't want traitors!" And Rumblepaw didn't like traitors, either.

Gleampelt was even more furios when she heard Rumblepaw than ran over and hissed "Of corase it wasn't Hailstorms fault! Why whould you ever think that! Icestar was only looking at her like that because she wanted her to acknowledge that she thinks Dawnstripe is better!"

Pinepaw didn't really know what to think of the situation, so she just decided to join in with the cheering of the new deputy. "Dawnstripe! Dawnstripe!" she chanted along with the other cats.
