Tired, was what he was. He'd been so tired these past several moons, and though it was impossible for his paws to ache here, he still had that memory that lingered, even as the waves of the ocean lapped gently at his toes.

The ocean. In life, it had shimmered with flecks of gold and silver from the sun and moon the few times he'd seen it. Now, it was as if it were made of the stars themselves. Buckstar tipped his head back with a deep inhale and then a heavy exhale, his eyes closed. This time, unlike all the others, his deep breath and following sigh wasn't one of stress. Rather, it was one of long-awaited relief.

He supposed death did have its perks, after all.

The sound of the waves rolling softly over the sand had always been calming to him, and now that he could enjoy it alone, without interruption, he was going to take advantage of it. He stretched out onto his side, curling his tail around him and letting his cheek rest on the sand as he closed his eyes, another small sigh escaping him. Within moments he was already slipping off to sleep.
