Bounceburr streched by the border. She laid down in a sunny spot, before catching a mouse. She momentarly went over the border chasing the mouse, and then caught it. "Oop!" She quickly went over, leaving the mouse. Oh no- She thought as a cat was coming.

Duskfern padded out of the shadows of the tall pine trees. She spotted a cat, walking away from a dead mouse on the ShadowClan part of the border. ”Hey!” she hissed. “That’s ShadowClan prey!”

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cross the border!" Bounceburr dipped her head. "I left the prey. It's Shadowclan's That didn't go very well. But borders are borders. I wish we had a looser code.... She thought.

Duskfern’s eyes widened a little. She was surprised at the cat apologizing.
”Well.. make sure it doesn’t happen again!” she growled awkwardly. Duskfern picked up the mouse, hesitated for a slight moment, then quickly padded away.

"It won't." Bounceburr trotted off.

Buckstar made his way cautiously along the ShadowClan scent line. His ears were perked for any suspicious sounds, and his eyes scanned the underbrush on the other side of the scent line. He was on high alert after the Gathering - even if he didn't quite know anything about Dawnstar just yet, he did know she was not someone to be trifled with, and he planned to tread carefully around her and the whole of ShadowClan until he figured out where they stood with each other.

It didn't take him long to check and remark the scent marks, and confirm that nothing was out of the ordinary. As he was turning away, a faint squeak and the scrabbling of tiny claws made his ears swivel to the side and he swung his head around to stare at a knot of tree roots. It sounded like mice - maybe a nest? That would certainly be a welcome sight. Buckstar trotted over to the roots and bent his head to sniff at them. A furry nose popped out to greet him, then another, and suddenly four mice shot underneath his feet. He spun and managed to slam his forepaws down on two of them, effectively snapping their spines and killing them instantly. The other two scittered off into the undergrowth, but Buckstar was perfectly pleased with these two. He picked up his catch by the tails and started back in the direction of camp.

"O-okay." Singepaw squeezed her eyes shut briefly, before opening them and taking a deep breath. Time for the real test of hunting. Practicing the crouch and sniffing out some prey hadn't been so big of a deal, but this most definitely was. What if she couldn't catch it? Then she wouldn't bring back anything for their patrol and everyone would think she was a failure. Or what if she tripped or slipped and Dustsong laughed at her? That was highly unlikely, but Singepaw was thinking of every worst-case scenario possible. With a final gulp, the gray molly started forward, trying not to shake so much as she crept across the ground, easing into a crouch. Once she was right near the bush, she did the bigger version of the bunny hope she'd practiced, landing squarely on the mouse and administering a killing bite. She'd... actually done it. Wow.

She ran toward her apprentice and meowed

Singepaw! You did it what did I tell you? I’m so so so proud of you.

she smiles at her apprentince and then meows again

Everyone will be so proud of you.
I’m so proud of you oh my gosh!

Her apprentince had caught a mouse she wasn’t a failure mentor after all!

Once again, Buckstar was back by the ShadowClan border. He just wanted to check things one more time, make sure everything was really all right and that he hadn't looked over anything on his patrol. Maybe he was just being paranoid, but hey, the thought of Dawnstar raiding the camp should have been enough to make anyone paranoid. She was absolutely massive, and compared to her, he was just a bug under her paw that she could and would squash anytime. The very thought made him shiver.

He sat down by a raspberry bush to take a short break and a deep breath. He just needed to stop and think for a moment. Maybe ThunderClan wasn't in any danger. Maybe they and ShadowClan had the potential to become allies, or at least on decent terms. Maybe Dawnstar wouldn't carry Icestar's personal vendetta against his Clan any longer.

Or maybe he was just doing pointless wishful thinking.

He tipped his head back with a frustrated groan and tapped his paws on the ground. Suddenly, premeditated battle plans didn't seem like such a bad idea.

Singepaw nearly dropped the mouse from her jaws in surprise. She hadn’t anticipated her mentor jumping up and squealing like that. With a meek smile, the apprentice let out a small fit of coughs and then looked back up at her mentor. “Y-you really t-think so?” In her opinion, a tiny mouse didn’t seem like such an impressive first catch, but honestly, she wasn’t sure. Perhaps it was just best not to question it and just go with the fact that she’d at least caught something. “S-so, is that it? F-for the patrol I m-mean.”
