"That's me," Mousepaw replied once a dark gray tom, one with noticeably... leafy fur, walked over to him. Duskleaf. "So... um." Mousepaw had never talked to a mentor that was his before, since this was his first, and also his first day of being an apprentice. What was he supposed to say? Duskleaf looked kind of young and sounded slightly unsure, so maybe this was also his first time being a mentor. "Am I your first apprentice? I don't get into too many fights, or at least not yet, so you didn't end up with a delinquent. I like to think I'm pretty responsible, actually..."

"Ah, that’s good to hear." Duskleaf said, he was thankful he wasn’t being thrown in the deep end immediately, Mousepaw didn't seem like he’d be any trouble. Maybe this whole mentor thing might not be as hard as he thought? "Yep, you're my first apprentice. I didn't expect to be chosen as a mentor, but I am looking forward to it." He said.

"Have you had any sort of training at all yet? Just so I know where we should start from." He asked, Duskleaf knew that kits were sometimes given basic training in some areas, so he wanted to know if Mousepaw had done any of these training courses.

Stagheart raised his voice in cheering for the new apprentices. "Branchpaw! Mousepaw! Ravenpaw!"

Once the meeting was over, he glanced over at Berrypaw. She was speaking with Pepperbounce, and he couldn't help but notice the awkwardness between them. They both looked on edge. As her adopted father of sorts, he immediately felt some sort of concern.

He hesitated. Do I go talk to them?

Yeah... better something than nothing.

The large tom made his way over to Berrypaw and Pepperbounce, dipping his head in greeting to the new mentor. "Congratulations, Pepperbounce. I hope these moons of trainin' between you two are successful 'n enrichin' for both of ya." Then he glanced at Berrypaw. "Hey, Berry — it's gettin' late. Why don't you settle down 'n get some good sleep for the night?"

When Berrypaw nodded and walked away, Stagheart waited a moment before glancing at Pepperbounce. "She's real nervous, y'know," he commented casually to the mentor, keeping his voice low. "It's been real hard gettin' her to open up 'n try. Just... give her some time, but don't coddle 'er too much, alright? Berry's stronger than she knows, she's just..."

He trailed off, slightly frowning. How could he easily explain Berrypaw's nervous habits? The way her mind raced a hundred miles an hour? Stagheart couldn't relate to it himself, so he found his words faltering.

"Well, uh... she's just in her head too much, I 'spose. I'm sure you'll do great with 'er, just keep that in mind." It was sort of a warning, in case the warrior wasn't used to anxious apprentices. He didn't know Pepperbounce well, but hopefully he'd be a solid, grounding mentor for the nerve-wracked Berrypaw. Stagheart briefly wondered if he'd said or intruded too much already.

Berryflare

She examined her apprentice. Gosh she was bigger than she thought. Of course Berryflare was still taller than her ... for the moment. She was sure in a moon or so Tulippaw would grow quite a lot. To be taller than her that was. Most cats in the clan were, but she would figure out how to train with a bigger cat later.
Shaking her head she looks down at her. She hadn't really remembered exactly what she had said. This mentoring thing was new to her and paying attention wasn't exactly one of her strong suits. "You nervous? Don't be, I'm not that scary." She chuckled at the thought of her being scary. Though she soon realized she should continue, so she did. "Seems like quite the lazy mentor and cat." She remarked rolling her eyes. Probably another young cat like her. "Don't worry, I'm not like that kid. Probably the complete opposite. Now I'll try my best, I've barely become a warrior myself and already have to mentor you." She meowed standing up straight, trying to have a good impression on her new apprentice.
After a bit more her talking she responds. "2 months of apprenticeship and your barely trained. Gosh that mentor of yours must of really sucked. Come on, I'll show you some things. We can go over the rest of the territory tomorrow, I don't want to tire you out." She flicks her tail from towards Tulippaw to herself to signal her to follow her.

Stars, there were already so many things wrong with what Fadingsun had said so far. Talonpaw had been ready to rip into the tom. He didn't give a mouse-dung if the self-styled leader tried to kick him out, he wasn't going to be silenced. Not now. Not ever again. And he wasn't going to let other's be silenced either. Forcing cats to talk in private where you would ignore what points they made so they couldn't point out your flaws in public? That just cemented the fact that Fadingsun was another pathetic excuse of a cat who would fail as those before him had.

Talonpaw opened his mouth, fulling intending on making his opinion known, when he was cut off by a voice. Glancing to the side, another apprentice was talking to him. Huh? Why him? They didn't even know his name! And before Talonpaw could respond, Stickpaw was already rushing off after calling him two different names! What was happening?!

By the time he came back to his senses, the cat on top of the Floodstone (Talonpaw refused to acknowledge them as his leader) had moved on to ceremonies. Of course, another cat who took forever to complete their training would be placed in a position of power. Just like Larkstar had named Birdsnow her deputy, Mistyshard would fail as medicine cat since she couldn't even complete her warrior training in a timely manner. Still, now would not the be the time to voice those thoughts. Despite his stewing anger, Talonpaw knew when to keep his mouth shut. With topics already shifting, it wouldn't do any good to drag them back up. It would look like he was causing drama just because he wanted to. No, he would wait until the time was right. Until Fadingsun wouldn't be able to silence him with no one watching.

Blood still boiling from what Dusklion had told him, Fadingsun streaked out of the leader's den and flew atop the Floodstone with greater speed than he'd shown in a long, long time. His body was shaking- not with fear, but with rage. It burned in his eyes and made his claws scrape against the stone beneath his paws.

He'd had it with this Clan's asinine adventures that put everyone in unnecessary danger. Now, thanks to the ridiculous decision three of their warriors had made, they were likely going to face some kind of violent retaliation from WindClan. He'd have to scramble at the next Gathering to try to appease Twilightstar; this was not the position he wanted them to be in right now.

"RiverClan!" he snarled. "Gather beneath the Floodstone." Stars, he hoped nobody tried to push him wrong today. They might just find themselves on the wrong side of the border if they did.
