Pebblefur hissed, and dodged out of the way of this first attack. Sadly, she wouldn't be so lucky with the second. "Ha! Can't get me fox-heart!" she taunted. She aimed her own attack at the cats flank, claws extended.

Twisting back to avoid getting flanks shredded, Brackenfire let out a venemous snarl, and then lunged forward, aiming to sink her lethal fangs deep into Pebblefur's neck, then shove the molly to the ground. Hopefully she could make this cat eat her words and swallow her blood.

Reaching forward to attempt to raise her paw over the cat's throat, she stared down at them menacingly. "And you can too. I've heard hell is nice and toasty this time of year." Raising her paw, she attempted to rake it down the cat's throat in a final, killing blow.

Pebblefur barely reacted to the slash to her throat. Life faded from her eyes and she stared blankly ahead, not seeing anything. She was dead. But was it worth it? Probably in the knowings of this cat . . .

Good thing he's given up, then. Foxstep tilted his head at the small creature, trying and failing to hold back his burst of laughter. "Kid, you don't look like you could catch me anything more than a worm." He paused to heave in a rasping breath, wincing at the twinge in his lungs. Foxstep shook his head, favoring his humor over his skepticism. "I 'preciate the offer, though."
To be honest, this guy's life sounded sadder than his. Already, what? Three moons old? And didn't know where his home was. At least Foxstep had known for some time before things fell apart. Not to mention this loner's on-point people-pleasing skills. Foxstep wanted to poke him for trying to be so generous when he obviously had so little to give.
Foxstep sighed deeply through his nose and fixed the young cat with a sharp look. "Here, how 'bout I get you something, then we scurry along our separate ways?"
The large chimera felt his lips tug upwards in the tiniest, unsure smile. What was that sound that the cat made? It sounded like a smile but... but he could hear it. Strange. He refrained from asking, because he could tell that whatever sound the tom had made was natural, and maybe Rain was just too pathetic to know what it was. "Actually, I've caught a beetle before, so," He said, surprising himself with the weakest of jokes. His first joke, wow! "How dare you underestimate my skills." His joke would probably be a lot funnier and more obvious if his voice wasn't so beaten down, but there was the smallest twinkle in his eyes that was hard to miss. Maybe he wasn't so far gone after all. Maaaybe.
He couldn't hide the ravenous growl in his stomach and his cheeks burned rosy as he realized that he couldn't possibly refuse, not when his stomach had already answered for him. "Deal." He said simply, head tilting downwards as he let out the quietest of sighs before blinking blearily at the older cat. "I mean, that works too. I-if you insist." It was right then that he realized that he couldn't possibly leave this interaction with his dignity and do-it-myself attitude fully intact, but that was a worthy sacrifice to have a full belly at long last.
