This was going to be awesome. And not even just because they were friends, but because Mintpaw truly was an amazing young cat and he looked forward to watching her grow up first-hand and learning more about her during this time. He would know about her first crush, her first love, and he would be there when she had kits. Who knew, maybe his kits and hers would even be best friends like their parents! "Shall we go, m'lady?" Marshjump asked with a mischievious purr as he lowered his head semi-respectfully to his apprentice, his dark eyes twinkling as he glanced up at her from his current position.

(to the borders?)
Mintpaw let out a low purr, waving her tail in the air. This was great. This was really, truly great. Mintpaw had never been more excited or happy about anything in her life. "Waiting on you, slow-poke!" She teased, reaching out to bat at his chest teasingly. Her head tilted faintly to the side when he lowered his head, and she let out a low mrroow of laughter, rolling her ice blue eyes. Somehow Marshjump always made her laugh. It was weird! She felt so... So at ease around him. She should probably feel the same way around her family, but for some reason, she couldn't. Marshjump was special. He was her best friend. And they'd get to grow up together (sort of) and tell eachother their secrets and about everything and it was going to be amazing. "We shall," Mintpaw mewed, eyes sparkling as she lowered her head to touch her nose to Marshjump's for a second before turning toward the camp entrance. "Onwards!"

(Yessss to the border!)

She cheered, lowering her muzzle slightly toward the ground to press her nose to the white flakes she was named after, but only for a second before she padded closer to Stormstrike. "It's cold." She mewed, and then, as if to show him, she pressed her freezing nose lightly to his cheek before whisking it away again, giggling before settling down beside her mate. Her best friend. She'd been neglecting him lately and she knew that wasn't fair, so it was nice to spend some time with her while she was finally free. "Hi." She said simply, her ice blue eyes just shining with affection as her gaze met Stormstrike's.

What she felt for the Tom just didn't come to her naturally in words. She couldn't describe it, the way her heart jumped and seemed to twist and warm and how safe and loved and happy she felt around him. For some reason she just couldn't. Even that small description wouldn't be enough - Words just weren't enough. But that was okay, because she showed him. Like right now, the look in her eyes, the way she brushed her tail tip against his, the way she smiled and giggled and the soft, loving tone in her voice, all of that was showing Stormstrike just how much she absolutely adored him. As a lover, and as a best friend.

The tom was purring when he saw his mate padding over to him, but his purrs cut off abruptly as the Siamese pressed her nose to his cheek. The coldness of her nose sent a shiver running through his body. He shook his fur as best he could in his position, as if trying to shake the cold out of his body. This was one of the things that Stormstrike didn't like about leaf-bare; the cold. He also didn't like the lack of prey. Although he liked the snow at least. It was beautiful despite the little warmth that each flake contained.
"Hey," he purred, giving the leader a small lick on her cheek. It had been a while since they had had the time to sit down and have a proper conversation. Whilst Snowstar had been busy with her leadership duties, the tom had continued on with life and had tried his best to make a few new friends. He wasn't particularly good with making friends and while he had made a few, he still felt quite antisocial. It had been hard not being able to talk to Snowstar. She was not only his mate but his best friend to. It was easy to talk to her but it was nowhere near as easy for him to talk to other cats. There was nothing wrong with the warrior, he just wasn't a social cat. He preferred to stay near those that he knew well.

As the she-cat lay down beside him, the tom shuffled over a little and pressed up against her. One reason for this was that he was cold, the other reason being that he just wanted to. For a short moment, there was a silence between them. Rather than a conversation of words, the pair seemed to have a conversation of affection. And rather than voicing their affection vocally, it instead showed through with their actions and eyes. "Our kits are apprentices now," he remarked quietly, his pale blue eyes shining with pride. It surprised him to see how quickly the six moons had passed. Now their kits were apprentices and training to be warriors. He trusted Snowstar's judgement over who would be their mentors. Now that they had moved up a rank, the tom was very excited to watch them grow into fine young warriors.

Snowstar's ears twitched faintly. The purr didn't stop, but it did lower a little, less loud, at Stormstrike's words. The smile wavered but it didn't disappear, and her ice blue eyes continued to shine, filling with pride but also a small sadness. "I know," She murmured, turning her head toward the clearing for a moment. "Time passes so fast, doesn't it?" She wished she'd had more time to spend with her kits while they were kits. And for them to be born into this.... It wasn't what Snowstar had wanted. She planned to keep them out of the battle if she could - She didn't want them getting hurt, or worse.... Snowstar shuddered at the thought, her ears folding back slightly. They'll be okay. They won't fight. I won't lose them. She told herself, taking a deep breath. Not the time for pessimism - It's never the time for pessimism. Lighten up, Snowy.

The Siamese cleared her throat and finally whisked her gaze away from the clearing, turning back to her mate, the smile returning. "So how have you been?" She asked, shifting on her paws to lean slightly against him. He's kind of warm... She couldn't help but think. Snowstar had short fur so the Leaf-Bares were always a little harder on her. But it meant Green-Leaf was easier for her, so that was a plus? Snowstar didn't mind snow or the cold weather or anything like that, but sometimes it just got a little too cold.

Lightpaw sat in the middle of the clearing, thinking to himself. His white ears twitched, and a rustling in a bush made him jump. Then a mouse skittered out. Oh my. I jumped at a mouse! he thought, his tail flopping around.

Tigerdawn streatched by the warriors den. She parted her jaws in a yawn as she finished up and began padding over to the kill pile. The warrior noticed how Lightpaw had jumped at a mouse and chuckled a bit. Tigerdawn flicked her tail and headed over to Lightpaw instead. “Hey there, Lightpaw.” She purred as she sat next to the young apprentice. “Scared of mice now?” She joked, flicking her ears.

Lightpaw's ears flicked in the direction of Tigerdawn. "H-hi, T-tigerdawn."
The moon cast a long shadow on the newly named apprentice, who had literally no map of the clearing in his head. "It's r-really dark and I d-don't know where the apprentice's d-den is... It's too dark... Lightpaw shivered. "I'm afraid a... f...FOX might c-come and eat m-me... Lightpaw's ears flattened with fear. He clearly acted like a kit's soul trapped inside of an apprentice.

Tigerdawn placed her tail across his shoulders. “Follow me, I’ll show you de wae.” The young warrior got to her paws and flicked an ear. “I promise no fox will get you. The warriors will fight it off.” Tigerdawn began walking toward the apprentice’s den. “Come along young one.”

She resisted the temptation to tell Caliapaw that she already knew she was taking a break, though that was made easier by the fact her interlocutor spoke again.

Training ?" The apprentice said, tipping her head to the side. "Oh, my mentor's not here yet. I'm usually free around this time. Funny, uh ? We both have breaks at the same time !” Goldenpaw meowed while she flicked her tail around, getting a bit closer to the other she-cat.

Plus I still have a lot of time before becoming a warrior ! And I have learned some cool stuff already ! I bet I could already take on a fox.” She said proudly, trying to stand up to make herself look regal, though she ended up looking a bit stupid, with her untamed long fur sticking up in odd directions.

She was so caught up in her boasting that she almost didn't catch what the other cat said next. One word stuck with her. Alone ? That couldn't be right.

Goldenpaw suddenly had a realization. Maybe that's what was bothering Caliapaw ! She was feeling lonely ! After all, she never saw her hanging out with a lot of cats, and her mentor was gone … and she was about to go to the forest on her own, with no one else to talk to.

Not on my watch. The young she-cat thought. She had to find a way to convince her friend-to-be to let her tag along. She tried to think of something, anything … ha !

Why don't you let me come with ?! I bet you could use some extra muscles !” She chirped with a happy grin, once again getting closer, if that was even possible. “And I could watch your back, in case some Windclanners attacked ! Like an escort !” She almost crouched down, trying to make herself smaller, in hopes Caliapaw would accept. They'd be spending some time together, and the Medicine cat wouldn't be alone for once. It was a win-win situation in Goldenpaw's eyes.
"Taking on a fox is about the dumbest thing you could do right now." The medicine cat mewed, loud enough for Goldenpaw to hear, yet her voice sounded like a low mutter - Caliapaw was annoyed enough that she probably would have clawed the apprentice had she continued. The next words Goldenpaw spoke made the apprentice unsheathe her claws and her eyes widened in irritation. "No. Way." She spoke, her voice calm, but strained with keeping it that way. She needed to play the bigger part. It was very unlike her to be a pushover, not that she had ever had to be - she had been out of the spotlight for most of the time, now that she was a medicine cat, she needed to force herself to step up and teach this apprentice that she was being stupid.

"I'm not going to let you come with me, because that would be putting you in danger if WindClanners attacked. Besides, I'm one hundred percent certain that your mentor wouldn't want you doing this. You can't stay on break for that long," The medicine cat argued. She was trying to come up with every valid reason for the well-meaning, yet irritating younger apprentice to stay behind. She was about a moon or two older then Goldenpaw, and had had warrior training before - not enough of it to fend off a larger attacker, but enough to be able to momentarily do something so that she could escape. Besides, the apprentice would be more of a hindrance then a help. If she could just talk to Goldenpaw's mentor, or her mother, maybe somebody would be able to stop this apprentice from pushing her buttons so much.

Although she doubted it. It seemed to just be in the other cat's nature to want to be around Caliapaw, to be like her, to know all about her. While that was flattering, it most certainly was not her idea of the ideal partner. She would have to keep that in mind sometime in the future, when having an apprentice would be expected. "Besides, I think it would be better to be alone." She remarked after a moment, hoping that final remark would be what pushed the apprentice to finally agree that it would be better for the both of them if Caliapaw went out on her own to collect herbs and Goldenpaw stayed here, waiting for her break to be over and then going back to train with her mentor.

Near them a tiny ball of moss sat, battered and starting to fall apart, and it wasn't long until the warrior realized that this kit must've been locked into a pretty intense game of chase. A purr rumbled in her belly, and the ginger feline turned to that she was facing more towards the tiny calico kitten. She wasn't one to get angry easily - unless someone threatened her Clan - so she smiled down fondly at Brightkit.

"Why hello there Brightkit!" she purred, using one of her free paws to smooth down some of the fur that had fluffed itself up on Brightkit's head. "My name is Emberwing. It's nice to meet you." She studied the younger kit and noticed quickly how her eye was glazed over. Poor thing, she thought with a sting of sympathy. Brightkit appeared to be nearing her six moons, and for a moment Emberwing wondered how her warrior training would go. With the battle coming up, would she be left in the dust while all the other apprentices with two working eyes were trained? She surely hoped that wouldn't be the case; with Brightkit's spirit, Emberwing was sure she would make an excellent ThunderClan warrior.

Turning her attention back to the present, Emberwing glanced at the moss ball, using her tail to bat it back over to them. "I see you've caught your first prey!" she mewed, amusement lighting up her gaze as she looked from the ball of moss to Brightkit. "Have you no one to play with?" Surely the young she-kit had friends in the nursery? It wasn't too often that kits stumbled out into the clearing for their games - after all, if Emberwing were still small enough she'd much rather be in the warm serenity of the den rather than trudging through the cold leaf-bare snow in search of scraps of prey in a desolate forest.
"Emberwing? That's a pretty name! It suits you, too, cause you're really pretty!" Even though Emberwing's outline was blurry, and it was hard to see her, what Brightkit could see certainly looked pretty, and a cat with a name like Emberwing was bound to be absolutely gorgeous! For her, pretty cats got pretty names, mean cats had mean-sounding names, and nice cats had nice sounding names. She had always thought her name suited her as well, although her Mother hadn't named her to fit her personality. Sometimes she wondered if her Mom had secretly known what she was going to be like, and named her accordingly, though that would be impossible.

"Oh no, I have friends to play with! They're just busy, you know, making other friends and stuff! Some of them are older so they've got training to do, or they have to hunt or something, but sometimes they'll come into the nursery and tell me stories when they aren't busy! Isn't that cool?" Brightkit asked, talking at top speed, her blue eye twinkling happily the whole time. Anytime she spoke of her friends, it made her quite a bit happier then she normally would be. With friends like them, she didn't feel like she would ever have true bullies again! Oh sure, sometimes there was the occasional mean cat who would make cruel remarks on her sight, or something else about her, but she brushed those aside as lonely remarks made by the cats who didn't really have friends.

So of course they needed to tease her, because that was the only way they knew how to ask her to be friends! It all made sense to the calico, but of course, lots of things made sense to her that just wouldn't to any other cat. "What about you? Don't you have friends to play with too? Or hunt or patrol with or whatever it is you do? Because if you don't, I will ABSOLUTELY be your friend! And if you do I'll STILL be your friend!" The she cat chirped happily, watching Emberwing with her good eye gleaming in a friendly manner. She had never been the best at holding back, and didn't seem to get the fact that she could scare someone off by acting the way that she did. After all, who could possibly be scared of someone who just wanted to be friends?

Lightpaw stammered. "O-okay,"
he mewed as he stepped one paw in front of the other, carefully padding toward the den. He ended up getting there, and laid down in a nest of moss,
curiously away from all the other apprentices, their various pelts rising and falling. He meowed. "Thanks, Tigerdawn!"
Lightpaw slept soundly that night, untroubled by his usual bad dreams.
