Prologue
The sun stretched high into the sky, burning brighter and brighter. Somewhere, a rabbit scampered across the lush plains filled with heather. Above, a kestrel hunted, silently gliding across the terrain with soft feathers. The wind blew strongly, wavering some stalks of grass. Somewhere, In this land, the grass flickered. It flickered amber, coating the stalk with red-hot flames, swallowing it into ashes.
Chapter 1
Violetpaw closed her eyes, breathing in the fresh morning air. She smiled as a soft breeze flew through her, refreshing her.

Violetpaw turned around to see her mentor, Nettlestar. “Hello Nettlestar! What will we do today?” She mewed, eyes shining.
Nettlestar purred, twitching her whiskers. “Let me just talk to Cracklesong about the patrols.” Nettlestar trotted over to the Seaclan deputy and started talking with him. Violetpaw turned and waited by the entrance, swishing her tail.

“If it isn’t Violetpaw.”
Violetpaw bristled. “What do you want?” She snapped.
Icepaw rolled his eyes. “Fine, I won’t be annoying or anything.” His gaze flitted over to Nettlestar. He narrowed his eyes. “Aren’t you going to hunt?” He mewed.
Violetpaw narrowed her eyes. “I have to wait for Nettlestar.” She mewed defensively.
Icepaw grinned. “You have to wait for your mentor?” He scorned. “My mentor’s very quick unlike your mentor.”
Violetpaw’s tail fluffed up.
“C’mon Icepaw, let’s go to the prey pile now.” Beetlesun pushed through the tunnel
