Their eyes lifted from the grey mouse as they looked at the other cat. a tom, they presumed. they raised an eyebrow, before smiling and saying, "Grabbin' food for my kits?" they said in a strong southern accent and motioning towards a small pile of fresh kill. they stood up, stretching their back and shaking their long brown pelt.

Dusk looked at the food pile. "I'll only accept you and your kits hunting in my territory. In return, you'll give me one quarter of the prey you catch each day." he said.

they hid their dislike in the tom hidden as they flicked their rounded ear and counted ptheir prey, including the one they was eating. coming up with the number, she tossed the correct number to the tom, hoping to hit him flat in the head. after all, he kind of deserved it. not having sympathy for a cat and their kits.

"Not today. I have enough prey for the day." he nudged the prey that he was given back to the female cat. Dusk drew in a quick breath. "Wolves are nearby. Take your food and kits and run!" he shouted. He picked up the kits and ran with the female cat, who had the food.

they shook their fur and threw the prey in some pouches around their body. they rushed to an alleyway in front of the other, and slid into a stop, counting the kits. they smiled and nodded, grooming them and ushering them into nests, watching them fall asleep.

"My den isn't safe while the wolves are there. All my prey for today are in these pouches." Dusk said. He looked at the pouches slung over his body. "I never asked your name. I'm Dusk, who are you?"

they rolled their eyes and said, "This is my den, mousebrain!" they flicked their long, almost furless tail and their eyes narrowed at the tom. "I dont need your damn den!"

"My name?! can't you tell? it's mouse, foxheart!" they hissed, glancing towards the young kits, who were fast asleep in the nest. their eyes sharpened as they lashed their hairless tail.
