It has to be 100 by 100 for it to move, which is why people with gifs have a square/100x100 avatar, if that makes sense :3

no, it can be up to 120x120. 100x100 was required on the old site, but it's changed. it just can't be bigger than those dimensions.

i use lunapic to resize the image to the right dimensions, then save the image and upload it as an avatar. you could probably use another program, but that's what i've found is easiest. if i remember correctly, there might be an issue where the file size is too big. i don't know if i'm thinking about this site or not, but it could be that your avatar has too many colors and/or frames (but i'm pretty sure you get an error message when you try to use a file that's too big?)
do you have the image url of the gif?
