SPOILERS FOR THE WARRIORS SERIES
Lionblaze was facing off against Breezepelt, his kin. The golden tom had discovered many moons ago that Leafpool, the ThunderClan medicine cat was his mother and Crowfeather, a WindClan warrior, was his father. It was a shock and it was definitely a shock to Crowfeather and Breezepelt. Breezepelt is his half-brother. Blinking back to reality, Lionblaze barely heard Breezepelt's words. "She's dead; now it's your turn, Lionblaze," Breezepelt snarled. As teeth met flesh, Lionblaze sputtered out words. "We're kin!" A flame seemed to light Breezepelt's eyes. "Never!" His teeth bit down. Hard. Lionblaze could feel each tooth pop through his skin, and the sticky red liquid leak from his throat. Crowfeather raced beside him and flung Breezepelt off. Lionblaze felt a chunk of flesh leave his body, but he ignored it. It wasn't important now. Dazed, Lionblaze blindly stumbled into battle. As he fought, he felt his life ebbing away, but he pushed on. He was an unstoppable warrior! That was his power! He couldn't stop now.
Jayfeather was racing around tending to wounds, fighting off the occasional Dark Forest cat. As he ran out of herbs, the mottled tom began to run back into his den. He felt Lionblaze brush past him, wheezing. That was when he smelled the sharp scent of blood. Jayfeather halted.
It can't be his blood! He can't be wounded, he yowled to himself. Still, Jayfeather whirled around and raced after Lionblaze. "Wait! Stop!" Jayfeather skidded to a halt as his brother collapsed in front of him. Fear stabbed his heart. Jayfeather nosed around his brother's body searching for a wound. His body was clean of wounds, until he reached the throat. A deep laceration across Lionblaze's throat was what was killing him. Jayfeather paced, thinking of what to do. His mind was blank. Completely blank. Just when he thought it was over, Leafpool sprinted over. "Lionblaze! Lionblaze, wake up!" Hope sparked in Jayfeather's belly. "Is there anything we can do?" Jayfeather searched Leafpool's mind for any sign of hope, but he found no positive emotions. Her mind was a thick wall of thorns, wilting at the sight of Lionblaze. The emotion he felt from Leafpool as that protective wall faded away, was grief. Jayfeather blinked from his daze and shoved his muzzle towards Lionblaze's. He waited for breath to stir his whiskers. And waited. And waited. Heartbeats passed, and he felt no air from his brother's jaws. Breath catching in his throat, Jayfeather backed up. This couldn't be real. Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw were stumbling towards him. Horror bounced off of them like waves. Jayfeather's knees buckled as grief hit him like a rampaging badger. Lionblaze was dead.
