"I really didn't want to miss this," he said, earnest. "I... probably wouldn't have forgiven myself, to be honest." Swanfeather was super sweet and kind and deserved only good things, and Fawnsqueak didn't want to see him unhappy (especially not with him.) "But, uh, same-- I mean, I'm glad you're here. Not that I'm here. It's nice to see you again." He was glad he managed that instead of the stupid "been so long" joke that he'd been working on during the walk.

"I think we pretty much just call those nests.." Fawnsqueak said quizzically as he padded atop the softness, smiling at it while he squished it between his toes. Leaning forward to examine it closer, he inquired, "How.. did you get it like this?"

Fawnsqueak admired the blue flowers in awe, stunned into silence until his wits returned to him, the crown safely atop his head. "W-wow," he breathed, an elated laugh spilling from him. "It's.. really gorgeous. Thank you." He still didn't know if he understood it completely, but it was an incredible gesture and definitely beautiful. Maybe... Hopefully he hadn't detracted from its beauty. Suddenly worried, he asked, "Does it look okay? On me?" He could take it off if it was prettier without him.

The offer had him grinning. "I seriously don't think I'm.. talented like this, or.." he shook his head, thought dismissed, "I just don't see myself being able to make something so nice, y'know?" Den-weaving was the extent of his crafts. "I could try it, I just.. don't want you to be disappointed," Fawnsqueak clarified, "when it doesn't turn out that great."

He gave a large grin at Fawnsqueak's words. "'M glad ya didn' miss it. Woulda been real sad sittin' 'ere wit'out ya, Fawn-Fawn." Swanfeather leaned over and bumped his shoulder against the other tom's, his eyes bright and glimmering with glee.

Before he followed the other onto the 'blanket', he hopped up and went to grab another cattail. The question had a simple (and fun) answer, bringing Swanfeather to giggle excitedly. "Lookie 'ere Fawn-Fawn," he mewed, padding over the fluff and sitting down. Making sure Fawnsqueak could see, he put his claw over the top of the seed pod, pulling it down and watching the fluff explode out once more. He giggled again as it flew out, coming to cover their paws in soft fluff. "It's real fun to see 'n' do, 'n' it's all nice 'n' soft to lay on!"

Fawnsqueak's gratefulness of the flower crown made Swanfeather feel giddy inside. "No problem! Ya look real gorgeous wit' 'em. 'N' I mean it. Yer real pretty even wit'out 'em. He gave a sheepish shuffle of his paws, pure genuinety in his expression.

"Ya will do fine, Fawn-Fawn. 'M sure o' it. Anyone can learn, ya know!" Swanfeather nudged him reassuringly. "Jus' try, 'n' even if it don' turn out real great, I'll love it all the same." His head tilted to the side, a small, lopsided smile on his lips. The tom then hopped to his paws, beginning to walk toward the trees.

"Now come on 'ere, Fawn-Fawn! We gotta get ya some flowers, ya can't make yerself a flower crown if ya don' have no flowers!"

Grizzlybug watched silently and nodded when Eveningpaw returned, “good job! It is smart to use your size to your advantage. I’m a very big cat, as you can see,” he mrowed with a laugh, “if I were to try that, I’d come crashing to the ground, squirrel and all! But, you did well and I’m pretty convinced as to your skills. We can go on some hunting patrols later just to put a fine point on them, but I see know need for specific hunting lessons. Now, for fish. Show me what you can do!” Grizz shuffled to make sure his shadow wasn’t on the water and sat comfortably to wait for Eveningpaw to demonstrate what she’d already learned when it came to fishing.

Eveningpaw felt pride, while she was the size of a grown cat, she was tall and skinny, something that made her assume her bloodline originated in Windclan. She knew he was right that he couldn’t go on small branches as she could. Eveningpaw looked at her shadow to figure out what side of the pond to sit on and carefully sat down there, ensuring her shadow was clear off the water, still not use to the refraction, as she saw a fish she shot her paw in missing it,” Fox dung.” she muttered.

Grizzlybug nodded to himself and shifted to offer her advice, “if I may offer some advice, try sitting and watching for a few moments after you sit down. It’ll help you get into the ‘zone’ for fishing and also allow the fish to calm down. They feel our pawsteps and become nervous but if we sit for a bit they will relax again. It also allows us to grow used to the distortion of the water. Then, when you actually go for the fish, scoop in at it rather than trying to hit it. It allows more margin for error and will hopefully send the fish flying onto the bank where you can kill it.”

Eveningpaw gave a small nod, hoping it would work. She waited a couple minutes, forcing herself to stay focused, this time a fish was coming she quickly shot her paw in, a bit sloppily, causing the fish to change directions, but she was so close, she felt that fish brush her paw. She carefully removed her paw and glanced at Grizzlybug, not wanting to disappoint him.

Silentkit padded around in the water and practiced floating in the shallow parts of the water. He was hoping for some quiet time since the clearing is too crowded for his liking. He tried to catch some fish but only accidentally caught one by trying to test the waters with his paws but came back with a small fish. Silentkit trotted back to camp once he was satisfied with his catch and practice.

“Better!” He exclaimed encouragingly, keeping his voice quiet so as not to startle the fish. “Try again,” the fluffy tom pushed with the same lowered tone. “Perhaps start a little sooner when you see a fish, or wait for one that’s far enough away but headed in your direction. Fish are faster than us!”

Eveningpaw gave a small nod, glad to know he wasn’t disappointed in her, she waiting before seeing a fish a ways away and having her paw just over the surface and at the last second sticking her paw in flipping the fish onto the surface and slamming her paw on it, letting it flop for a minute or so until it was still, she glanced up at Grizzlybug, awaiting critique or possibly praise?

“Great job!” Grizzlybug purred. He was glad to see his advice paying off and felt excited at the prospect of actually being a good mentor to a younger cat. “Why don’t you try again a few times- more fish for camp the better! Then we can move on. It doesn’t seem too late so we could try something else if you’d like!” The relationship between mentor and apprentice was a little different since Eveningpaw was so close to being a warrior and they hadn’t been together since she was six moons. Grizz felt weird ordering her around, so he had decided to leave their options open and allow her to choose the direction of her training.

Eveningpaw gave a small nod Just because I caught one piece of prey doesn’t mean I can pass my final assessment. she thought. She waited again and missed the next fish, but wasn’t discourage. She caught the next one and pinned it down letting it flop a bit. Keeping herself focused she tried again, waiting til the fish was approaching and hooking it, before slamming it onto the ground. I caught three fish. Due to her age, she was pretty lucky, she hadn’t had to apprentice duties any. It was nice.
