Re: RiverClan Training Cave
"Was that better?" Rainpaw asked Nightwhisker.
Nightwhisker nodded and purred. "Yes, that was much better." Though Nightwhisker wasn't lying- the moves that Rainpaw showed now had improved much since his first ones- he thought carefully to himself, I will have to focus more on his battle training from now on. Rainpaw were a great hunter, he observed and waited until the exact moment when he should strike. But hunting and battle was two very different things. Rainpaw didn't seem to be able to use his instincts for battle at all, he always had to think for a while before he acted. Nightwhisker weren't too worried. Rainpaw always listened, so he would learn soon, and now he knew at least one defensive posture and move. What Nightwhisker didn't tell Rainpaw was that most 'paws already knew those moves from the beginning. "Thank you, I have a great mentor." Rainpaw purred back. "Should we try it one more time then?" Nightwhisker meowed. "Yes, that's okay." Responded before taking his position. Though Rainpaw didn't express himself, it was clear to Nightwhisker that Rainpaw was too tired to try again. "Uhm, never mind. I forgot that we need to have time to tell the stories to the kits." He came up with. Rainpaw relaxed, and put his gaze on him. "I understand, thank you." Rainpaw sighed, relieved. Nightwhisker took his tail over his shoulder affectionately, hoping he had made the right choice. Being a mentor was close to being a father for him. "We can rest first if you want to." Rainpaw shook his head. "If I do that, the kits will already be alseep."Rainpaw explained. Nightwhisker eyed his apprentice proudly. |
Re: RiverClan Training Cave
@king kaleb!
Her first time to the training cave. As Dawnpaw placed one of her small beige paws on the marshy ground of the cave, excitement raced through her. Every nerve was on high alert as her icy blue eyes danced around the scene. Yesterday she had been named Dawnpaw, and had been assigned to Wolfdancer, and now... she was about to began her training to be a RiverClan warrior. A warrior... she thought, barely able to contain the smile that stretched wide across her face. It almost seemed unreal to her, and felt like just yesterday she'd been in the nursery playing moss-ball with her littermates. Now, they were all apprentices and off training with their mentors. She wasn't sure if they would ever get to hang out like they used to, but a part of her already missed them - after all, this was her first day really being away from them at all. Pushing the thought of her siblings to the back of her mind, the young apprentice looked over at Wolfdancer who stood next to her. She hadn't talked to the warrior much, but she was excited to be her apprentice. "I am so excited to start training! Thank you for taking me on as your apprentice," she purred, truly glad to be out with the RiverClan warrior. She looked like she'd seen a lot in her moons of life, but Dawnpaw was sure that she would be the best warrior she could be under Wolfdancer's guidance. |
Re: RiverClan Training Cave
It was close to sunhigh as Wildheart lead her new apprentice to the training cave. The torbie cat was glade to have a new apprentice and Twigpaw already showed promise. Even though her apprentice was ten moons and a formal loner she likes him already. Glancing behind her Wildheart looked at Twigpaw. "Today I thought I'd take you to the training cave. " She meowed as the cave came into view. "I'm pretty sure you know how to hunt but I will be teaching you to fish soon." The molly added. The cave opening strached in front of them. You could smell the dampness in the air as they neared.FONT When they entered Wildheart let Twigpaw go to what ever corner he wanted to. He had to have a little free will. "Now, do you have a person what you learn first Twigpaw?" The warrior asked her apprentice. It would be good to see what his Personality was like if he was outspoken or if he kept his ideas to himself. She didn't know him well since he'd just joined this moon and just the other night she was made his mentor. [Sorry this is late and short. It's a long story.] |

wolfdancer had been through alot this last year. all her kits had grown up, all adoptive. how many had she adopted...10?12? she couldnt remember honestly, only that she only everyone of them. but now they were grown warriors out in riverclan, she felt lonely. and the moment she had tried to become mates with honeycomb, she had been rejected by her. it was okay, they were on better terms then they were before, so things were finally settling down. and boy did wolfdancer look like she had been through a lot. she had countless scars on her pelt from her darkforest training. she left that place a long time ago for the better good, and things were falling into place in her life finally. she was at peace now, so it was only logical that she would take on an apprentice. she gave a loud rumbling purr, smiling at the mollys words. "Im glad to be training you, dawnpaw. ill train you to be the best warrior in all of the clans." after all, she didnt earn the suffix -dancer for anything. she was skilled on the battle field, almost to a graceful extent. once they arrive at the training cave she took in a deep breath. it had been awhile since she was here, it felt good to be back. "Were going to start with some battle pounces, these pounces can be used in battle and for hunting, you ready?" |

Now, as Wildheart spoke, he turned around and looked at her. All around them, the training cave was rather damp and swampy, though he figured that was to be expected for a Clan that lived by the water. On the other side of the cave, another set of mentor and apprentice were already beginning their training, and Twigpaw unintentionally flexed his limbs, mentally preparing for his first session. "I'm a bit lousy at fighting, as my mother never taught me any moves besides basic defensive ones," he offered. She was right, he did know how to hunt for himself, but his prey had always been plump mice in a barn that weren't used to running from the claws of their predators. Fishing sounded like a bit of a challenge, but he knew that if Reedtail could do it, then he could do it. After all, he did have RiverClan blood in his veins. Quote:

"good, i thought so," she purred, noting the apprentices enthusiasm. she was glad to have an apprentice that was so eager to learn, she knew how some young cats could be. lazy and unappreciative. she padded closer so she would be side by side to dawnpaw,"So for this, you get really low to the ground. you will mainly use this pounce when you are hiding and waiting for your target," she explained breifly,"but you get really low to the ground, but dont let your tail make any noise. and when the time it right, you can either strike for their legs, or jump and land against their chest." she demonstrated, keeping her body low to the ground, her fur being so long is dragged against it briefly. she was a large cat, a vareint of a mainecoon, so it sort of looked funny to see her crouch so small,"you balance all of your weight on your back legs and haunches, so you have less weight to worry about for your front paws and can move them quickly." the mewed,"You try!" |
Re: RiverClan Training Cave

Dawnpaw's ears swiveled around as she listened to her mentor closely, trying to commit each word Wolfdancer spoke to memory. She not only wanted to get it right this time, but every time after this. The young feline wanted to be that apprentice that didn't need to be told a second time, the one that could master it by just being informed once. She watched Wolfdancer's moves, the way she rocked back onto her haunches and kept her tail in a straight line. Her head bobbed up and down in agreement, and she tried her best to mimic the warrior's position. She crouched low, her belly just barely brushing the ground, but her tail curved upwards a bit, twitching a bit as her nerve battled with her calmer self. "Like this?" she asked, moving her eyes from her paws to Wolfdancer, eyes shining as she looked through their blue hues to her mentor. |
Re: RiverClan Training Cave

wolfdancer nodded enthusiastically,"just like that. now while youre in this position, i want you to imagine youre hiding in some shrubs, just waiting for some shadowclan apprentice to cross your path," she spoke, getting the image into her head to make it more realistic,"one way to go is to strike. this is for if they are close to you though, so not all the time," she noted. it was a close distance type battle move only, and wouldnt work so good if they were far away,"but its called a leg strike. you pull your paw as close as you can to yourself at first, but only jabbing out a moment later and swiping anything in your path, stretching it so far that you swipe in a full half circle." she explained. and then, she did it. she pulled her paw as close as she could to herself while her weigth rested on her back legs, so it was less tiring to moev her front ones. then, in a few seconds, she extended her arm in a quick motion, swiping whatever would have been in her path in a full half circle. she ended up swiping the ground instead, he abnormally long and thick claws making way into the daylight, and digging into the ground causing dirt and sut to come flying in the air. after she was done, she sat up, licking her paw free of dirt,"with that swipe you can either create dust to get in their eyes, or use it in the water so theyll get splashed, or when in land itll knock them off of their paws so they fall on their side and vunerable to attack." |

wolfdancer had to use her paw to block her mouth to cover her growing smile. she was an apprentice, wolfdancer knew she wasnt going to get everything on the first try, hell no one would. not even the finest leader. she playfully sighed, standing up and padding over to where dawnpaw had fallen. she bent down, a reassuring smile on her face,"you okay down there? that seemed like a mighty fall from the dust in the air." she teased lightly,"but its okay, im sure youll get it the next time. second times a charm you know," she chuckled, sitting up more. "Maybe for now, so you dont miscalculate again ill place moss on the ground where youre suppose to swipe. you can catch it in your grip too to provide a more real affect, okay?" she didnt want dawnpaw to get too overwhelmed after all this was her first time out fo the nursery. and there was so much to do after this today. but wolfdancer wasnt worried, she knew dawnpaw was eager to learn and would get it eventually. |

"Its okay, any apprentice would get too excited after leaving camp for the first time." they chuckled, cuffing up a moss ball and rolling it into place infront of dawnpaw. they sat next to the molly now but giving her enough space to repeat the move once again. even if it was only the begining, wolfdancer still felt a rush of joy to see her apprentice so eager to do her best. |

wolfdancer watched as she pulled her paw close to her chest, sweeping it out and catching the moss ball perfectly. it was always easier to follow out a move if you had a visual target on mind. she gave a rumbling purr, leaning down to swipe dawnkits head with her tongue,"Im proud of you, only on your second try too." she praised. "Now im going to teach you how to pounce. this you can both use in battles and for hunting." she explained briefly before getting in position. she crouched down close to the ground like before, resting all of her weight on her back paws like before. "Youre going to do the same as you did before, resting allof your weight on your back paws," she explained out loud,"You rest you rest your front paws under you as far back as you can, and then-" she shimmied her butt a bit in preparation before leaping forward, her front legs extending as far out as she could go. which was a lot considering her size, and landing gracefully on her front paws, and turning midlanding to face dawnpaw,"you land on your front paws. instead of landing on your paws youd land on an attacker, try on your moss ball." |
Re: RiverClan Training Cave

Dawnpaw now opened her eyes and nodded as the older warrior spoke. She watched her, silently mouthing to herself to keep track of the steps. It seemed easy enough, and with a grin of excitement the white and cream she-cat placed the moss ball back into the clearing, this time a little bit further away from her. "Okay, I think I can do it," she mewed with a determined look crossing her expression. Once again, she crouched back where she'd been "hiding" the first time, settling into the crouch that her mentor had showed her. One... two... three... she thought, wriggling her back haunches. After she had reached 'three' in her head, Dawnpaw opened her eyes, locking them on her target and launching herself through the air. She sailed through, whiskers flat against her cheek, and landed with both paws pressed down on the moss ball. Surprise lit her gaze and she blinked, her jaw dropping open. "I... I did it!" she gasped, looking up at Wolfdancer. |
Re: RiverClan Training Cave

the warrior watched her make a successful pounce on the first try, feeling reoccurring pride rumble in her chest. "Im proud of you getting that on your first try! its one of the most important and used moves in all the clans." she mewed,"When it warms up i cant wait to take you out to the rivers where youll learn even more moves, but right now well focus on land battle moves, seeing as sometimes we cant use the river." she mewed, obviously because of the colder seasons. in her mind riverclan was some of the most resilient, having both land and water moves to showcase their skills. "I want you to try the same move on me, without your claws of course. I'll stay still while you do it, i want you to get used to using your moves on things besides mossballs." she chuckled, padding out more so she was infront of dawnpaw. there was a large size difference, wolfdancer being a mainecoon and all, so she crouched down to be more level height. "When pouncing on someone always look in the opposite direction youre going to pounce because if i look in your eyes and see it, itll be easier to block you if it were a real battle," she commented,"and always try and aim for the chest. itll know the attacker backwards." |

wolfdancer prepared herself for the pressure that was going to be against her chest but found a...lack of them. instead, a dusted over dawnpaw who face planted on the ground. it took her everything in her not to giggle at the sight, leaning down to nudge the side of the mollys face,"Oh honey, are you okay? that was quite a fall." she said softly, golden eyes wandering all over her body to make sure she didnt hurt herself. maybe they should try out more hunting moves instead, atleast then dawnpaw would be more focused on a more smaller target than her, and could learn off of those moves into battle ones. |

wolfdancer padded closer to her, licking a bit of dust off of the mollys head. "to stay on the positive side, i vote dawnflight, for how you just soared in the air just then." she chuckled, keeping the mood light. all apprenticed messed up, but thats what made them get better just as fast. "I think we should go to the territory and try some hunting moves, theyll get you used to aiming for a target and help you with your battle moves. ones for catching prey and anothers catching an attcker, to look at it that way." they explained. "plus, i bet youll be strong enough to catch something on your first day for the clan, too." |

At the mention of trying out hunting techniques, Dawnpaw's blue gaze sparkled with excitement, her tail waving in the air behind her. "Oh, yes! Colby showed me some hunting moves while I was still in the nursery. I think I'll be good at it!" she purred, her whole body seemingly rumbling with it. She remembered her father showing her the basics to her and her littermates when they were tired of playing moss ball. Back then, she was sure there were a few mechanical things she was missing. Now with Wolfdancer teaching her, it would work out better. "I bet you're a really good hunter too!" the ragdoll she-cat mewed, smiling widely at her mentor. |

Re: RiverClan Training Cave
The training cave was empty when she arrived, and she nodded to herself, satisfied her shy apprentice would be a bit at ease with the quiet environment. Whitewish yawned widely, blinking the sleep from her eyes rapidly. Batpaw would be here at any moment, she had to be awake before he showed up so she wouldn't be distracted. She yawned again, shaking her head snappishly before flicking her ears and turning back, another ear twitch signaling her acknowledgement of the movement next to her. Her eyes turned to the entrance to the training cave, a smile lighting up her face as her heterochromatic eyes settled on the cat in the entrance. "Why, hello there." @ConfusedCas |

Batpaw followed the unfamiliar path to the training cave. The exhaustion had completely washed away and had been replaced with eagerness. He was desperate to learn everything he could and to impress his mentor but first he had to focus on not messing up. All I do is mess up. But I'll change that, I have to. At last he had reached the entrance. His heart began to thud in his chest as he carefully entered the training area and looked up at the she-cat waiting for him. Batpaw remembered his ceremony when Whitewish had become his mentor and feeling so intimidated by the warrior. He began feeling that again but upon seeing the smile on her muzzle it began to ebb away. He took a deep breath and approached, returning a small smile. "Hello." His voice was soft, "I-I'm excited to be learning from you." |
Re: RiverClan Training Cave

Whitewish cooed softly, letting out a reassuring purr. She could see his nervousness, and she didn't want to make him as stiff as he was at the ceremony. She was quite a young warrior, so she felt a lot closer to the apprentices than most. Therefore, she wanted to be close to Batpaw. The molly kept the kind smile, her eyes closing briefly before she turned, moving her larger frame to the center before turning to fully face the apprentice. Her apprentice. The weight of being a teacher settled on her shoulders but they didn't move, strengthening to accommodate the new weight. She took a deep breath, before flicking her tail to pull the apprentice closer. "I'm excited to have an eager apprentice as my first one. You seem quite the capable one, Batpaw." Her voice was smooth as honey, with a soft purr mixed in. She didn't want to frighten the younger tom anymore than she already had. "What would you like to learn first? any particular interest in a field?" She knew it was probably on her to decide what they would be learning, but she wanted Batpaw to be comfortable, and learn at his own pace, so she made the decision to let him choose. She wouldn't interfere with the choice as she was quite adept all around, though she was a bit young, so his comfort was top priority. She might be a bit intimidating and a lot to mouthy, but she could read cats fairly well. |

Her words calmed his nerves and allowed him to respond with more confidence in his voice, "Well I haven't really thought about it..." He tried to think of something quick to say as to not keep her waiting, "W-Well, I've always been interested in how to fight." Realistically Batpaw wanted to know how to protect himself, more importantly his clanmates, in case someone or something had gotten into camp. He always worries about everyones safety and couldn't imagine what he'd do if he failed at protecting a loved one, specifically his sister Ebonypaw. He looked into his mentors different colored eyes, eagerness still shown in his own green ones. "Yeah.. I want to know how to fight." |

Whitewish swished her tail, the long fluffy appendage batting at Batpaw's ears gently. Her smile remained warm, and a soft chuckle left her as well as she nodded, turning and pacing away from him. "Well, alright then! We'll start with a slightly basic, but moreso advanced move, simply because I have confidence in your ability to master it, and because it can be the thing to save your life in a battle. I'll also teach you how to assist someone else, should they find themselves in a predicament." She crouched in front of him, eyes glinting with mischief and excitement to be teaching the first lesson. She left herself wide open this time, not bothering to position herself with any guards. She wanted Batpaw to hit her this time around. "You're to run and attack me with any method to get me on my back. I'm considerably smaller than most warriors, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue, but I will assist you if necessary." Her honey-like tone was serious, but remained kind as she waited for the tom to make his move. |
Re: RiverClan Training Cave

The playful bat from her tail made a chuckle escape his own mouth and her suggestion made him stand up straighter, Perfect! I'll prove her right, I can master it! Filled with the sudden new confidence he mirrored his mentor and dropped into a crouch, obviously it wasn't a perfect one but Batpaw payed no mind to it. Knock her on her back? How in Starclan can I do that? Sure, she wasn't a big warrior but Batpaw wasn't a big apprentice by any means. He looked at her stance and quickly thought of something. Maybe if I hit her just below her chest I could get her to flip over? In hindsight it wasn't the greatest plan but he didn't want to keep Whitewish waiting. He also worried for a moment that he might hurt his mentor but he quickly realized that his scrawny shape could barely even hurt a kit. Batpaw bunched up his undeveloped muscles and sprang towards the she-cat. As soon as he landed close enough he whipped out his right paw, nearly losing balance, and aimed under her chest. |

The molly grunted at the impact, noticing things she needed to fix as he moved. Her smaller stature took the brunt of the hit--which wasn't super strong, but she was quite impressed at the strength her untrained apprentice was able to conjure from the blow--and helped, knocking herself all the way back and landing with an umph on her spine. She rested there, puffing slightly and grinning at Batpaw upside down, pride gleaming in her eyes. "Alright, now if you had me down, you'd pin me, correct, so I'd like you to do that. Then comes the move, I'll demonstrate it on you--I wont hurt you--and then you can try it out on me. Then we'll work a bit on that crouch so you won't be off-balance. But good blow, you caught me by surprise too, not many would think to use the enemy's weight against them in battle, so the blow to my chest helped knock my feet out from under me. I'm impressed, great thinking." Her voice was slightly breathless, but her smile remained as she waited for him to follow her instructions so she could show him a good way to get out of the pin. The warrior was excited, she loved this move, especially when big toms tried to take her down because of her size. She could tell Batpaw would probably not get very big, but he was quick, like her, so she had plenty of moves to show him to help him outsmart even the largest cat in the territories. This would be fun. |

(Ahhh she's the perfect mentor for him!) Batpaw's eyes widened in surprise as she flipped over and before he could yelp out an apology he noticed the pride in her eyes. Relief washed over his entire body and a flash of satisfaction warmed his chest. I did it! He licked his chest fur in slight embarrassment at the compliment, "It was the only thing I could think of doing." He admitted, still surprised his move had worked, he hadn't thought it through at all. Perhaps luck is on my side today. Next he did as she instructed. It's just like playing with Bramblepaw and Ebonypaw, right? His siblings used to always play fight but now he was learning advanced moves. Moves that one day may save his life. This was nothing like being in the nursery. With his heart beating fast he speedily lunged forward, his tail swinging and making him land clumsily on top of Whitewish. He scrambled to quickly place his paws firmly over her shoulders. It was a simple enough move and one he had yet to master but all he could notice was his paws shaking with exhilaration. Batpaw waited for the move, feeling tense. |
Re: RiverClan Training Cave

(They're great together XD I love it <3) The molly blinked in surprise. He hadn't thought that move through? 'He has a better sense for battle than most do. This is great, that'll keep him alive and kicking.' She flicked an ear as he scrambled for a second, before his speed caught his back legs and he launched forward in a lunge, landing on top of her quite clumsily. She grunted, noticing that before she could take advantage of the awkward landing that he had righted himself and fixed his paws. 'He really is fast, faster than most. He'll be rough to go against when he doesn't lose his balance so much anymore.' she observed, quirking an eyebrow and smiling up at him. She knew what was about to happen, but she adjusted her spine a bit to kink it, so she wouldn't kick as hard as normal. Her full force would probably send the light apprentice into the wall, hard. She didn't want to break his ribs or anything. The white warrior smiled mischievously as she took a breath to speak and explain the move, but decided to perform it first, so it would have the effect that a battle would have, rather than allowing him to predict her movements and adjust his grip. Right now, his grip was great for a cat who tensed their muscles--as she had done before he landed--and fought back, but it was pretty rough for one who relaxed. So she did just that, relaxing her entire body to allow his paws to slide to the top of her shoulders and expose his belly to her hind legs just a bit more. She then bunched her hips, kicking up into the soft fur above her slightly to knock him off, before rolling gracefully to her feet and crouching, habits brought by her mentor making her lash out with a paw, claws sheathed, and pat his cheek, smiling again. "This move allows you to get larger opponents off of you, and attack with quick succession, making it hard for the larger fighters to keep up with your speed. What I did was I kicked you off, and had you land close, but not close enough to fight back. Then, with a swift roll, I got to my feet and attacked back, landing a facial blow. If you're in a real fight, you want to go for the eyes or the skin just above, using these to blind your opponent and hinder their fighting. Usually, if you land it correctly, the enemy cat will run off, since fighting blind is a death wish. But, some skilled warriors will stick around, and then it's time to use other moves to fight them off. Blinding them will help, though." Her voice was slightly stern, more of a teaching tone with a touch of the honey-like gentleness she had been using earlier. Her smile never left, though, and she straightened, standing at her full height--not that it was anything notable--and flicking his ear with her tail. "You have a few balance problems, which is normal for a brand new apprentice, but I noticed you do have at least a bit of previous knowledge, and your natural instinct for how to get the upper hand on an enemy is impressive. Are you ready to try it yourself?" She waited patiently, blinking her heterochromatic eyes once in a while as she waited. She knew it might be a bit difficult, but she had easier moves if Batpaw would like to wait a bit. She didn't mind at all. |

(x3 <3) As soon as he felt his paws sliding forward he knew she had begun the move. He barely had any time to react before he felt her paws kick underneath him. It was strong enough to make a gasp leave his throat and knock him backwards, a little ways away from Whitewish, however it wasn't enough to send him reeling back. Just as Batpaw's paws touched the ground he felt a soft pat on his cheek. His eyes widened in awe, She's already back up! He just began to realize how skilled his mentor really was. She could have sent me flying just a moment ago. That made a small chill creep up his spine but Whitewish's friendly smile and playful actions washed away any fear that may have lingered before. He was grateful that he had gotten her as a mentor, who knows, he could've got a snarling psychopath for all he knew. He listened carefully to what she was saying and nodded to show his understanding. It was a lot to take in at once and it did kind of confuse the apprentice but he wasn't about ready to give up, or even slow down. His ears twitched, Balance problems? Batpaw always knew he was a bit clumsy and he always found it embarrassing but he never thought it could be a danger to him. Anxiety welled in his stomach as he imagined himself on the battle field making one wrong pawstep and- He pushed the thought away, as he usually does, and pulled himself back into the present. Relax, it's your first day. Plus, she seems to be pretty impressed so far, or at least she says so. He began to cool down and pay attention again. Batpaws ears perked up, "Y-You want me to try that?" He wasn't confident he could do it as well or as quickly as she had but he did want to try. Taking a deep breath he murmured, "Ok." The young tom crouched down and awaited the initial blow that would send him on his back. |
