The fluffy black kit puffed out its chest, eyes widening. It was a little surprised upon hearing that the silver tom was half blind. "O-oh! I'm... sorry?" How was one supposed to react to hearing that someone had a disability? They didn't want to make it awkward, considering they had only just met this kit.

"I mean... Your eyes are pretty. Sorry... I'm not very good at talking." Ears drooping, they looked down at their large forepaws, not seeming to notice how defensive the other kit was.

Milkkit offered a small and also rare smile, lifting their gaze to make eye contact with the other kit.

"You're welcome," they mewed, flicking their soft, feathery tail. "But why are you so anxious? I didn't mean to scare you..." They thought that sometimes, they came off as a little creepy to the other kits and queens. It didn't mean to; it just wasn't good at starting conversations.

The black kit just sat there listening in silence, eyes wide and glazing over as the tom went on. It hung its head, blinking rapidly. His mother had died...?

Once he finished, they unintentionally let the silence drag on for a moment longer, fidgeting anxiously with their paws. Oh, stars, they did it. They'd made this so awkward for the both of them — he shouldn't have felt the need to confess all his personal trauma to them! It didn't deserve that, and it didn't feel it was necessary.

After a moment, as they processed everything the silver kit had said, Milkkit looked away to a side and spoke quietly.

"I'm.... sorry. Again.... S-sorry. I know I don't need to be sorry again. But uhm... that really sucks. About your mom. That must be hard." Hoping they came across as at least a little mature and not painfully perhaps insensitive. Milkkit wasn't prepared for the tom's next words.

"Bully you?! Why would I do that....?" He didn't seem particularly.... bully-able? He just seemed slightly fragile, from the sounds of it. "I was actually gonna ask if maybe... you'd wanna be friends. I don't really know anyone around here since, uh, I don't really talk much.... Yeah."

They fell silent again, before they could say anything even more stupid.

Milkkit looked a little confused, cocking their head to one side ever so slightly. Why was this guy so hard on himself? It's not like he meant for his mother to die. Why did he think he was a freak?

They studied his expression, his tears a moment longer, flexing their digits. "You're not a freak? You shouldn't be so.... mean to yourself." It flicked a tufted ear, trying to think of how it should even respond to the tom's cascading emotions.

"Why wouldn't I? I need.... friends... anyway. Like I said, um, I don't really talk to anyone much. I don't think half the Clan even knows I exist." It let out a soft laugh, trying to compensate for what they just said.
